Papal Notes - Beatification in Korea

"Beatification is a recognition accorded by the Catholic Church of a dead person's entrance into Heaven and capacity to intercede on behalf of

individuals who pray in his name (intercession of saints). Beatification is the third of the four steps in the canonization process. A person who is beatified is in English given the title "Blessed".
Since the Catholic Church reform of 1983, one miracle must be believed to have taken place through the intercession of the person to be beatified, though the medical investigations of the Church are privately conducted and therefore subject to speculation about their methods.
The requirement of a miracle is not relevant to the canonization of those who died in martyrdom, as their sanctity is evidenced by being killed in odium fidei (in hatred of the faith).
The feast day for a Blessed person is not universal, but is celebrated only in regions where the person receives particular veneration." Wikipedia

"It was one of the most anticipated events of the Pope's trip to South Korea: 124 martyrs were declared blesseds by Pope Francis, as the crowds cheered on.
More than 1million people filled the streets of Seoul to attend the Mass and beatification of Paul Yun-Ji-Chung and another 123 martyrs who were killed during the height of the country's religious persecution in the 18th and 19th century.
Catholicism was introduced in the country by the laity. The Pope talked about the martyrs life example."  RomeReports
