A Conversation for Laodicea with God

A Conversation with God
for those of us in Laodicea

* Thus saith the LORD;
I remember the devotion of your youth,
how as a bride you loved me and followed me through the wilderness,
through a land not sown.

* Thus saith the LORD,
What iniquity have your fathers found in me,
that they are gone far from me,
and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?
Jeremiah 2:2,5

Seek the LORD, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Bethel.
 KJV

{.Seek ye the Lord, and live ye, lest peradventure the house of Joseph be burnt as fire; and it shall
devour Bethel, and there shall none be, that shall quench. }Wycliffe's Bible

Seek the Lord, and ye shall live - Repeated from Amos 5:4.
In the house of Joseph - The Israelites of the ten tribes, of whom Ephraim and Manasseh, sons of Joseph, were the chief.

Between the Desert & Legion

"It is tempting to look at the ancients of Israel, as they wandered and grumbled in a desert for forty years, and wonder at their behavior—..... These people are key participants in mouth-dropping events at the Red Sea, where the God who has chosen them offers a display of all that means. These same people then come to doubt God’s presence among them, God’s power, God’s concern, God’s plan for their lives. Did they really believe they could be as moved and cared for by a golden ornament, molded at their own hands, as they were with the God who split open the Red Sea?

Though the specific events of Egypt could have similarly been held at a distance by the psalmist who was writing years later, the writer nonetheless stood poised to remember the events of Israel’s past so as to see his present situation more clearly. As if forging it in his own memory, the psalmist speaks bluntly of Israel’s experience in the desert: “Then they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe his promise” (106:24).

What does it take to come to despise what once seemed promising?
What would it take for you to refuse to believe the one thing you want to believe most?
When hopes are dashed in trying places, I don’t believe their reaction to the desert is so far removed from our own. The Israelites were not unusually slow in understanding; they were no more stubborn than you or I am. But they were entirely disappointed; all they longed for seemed altogether unreachable. They could not believe that the wilderness was the way to Canaan. They could not see how their current trouble was consistent with a God who loved them; they could not see how their pain could possibly work for good in the end. Who among us cannot at some point relate?

When Jesus healed a man who was called Legion because he was possessed with so many demons, the townspeople had a peculiar response. Mark describes the scene and its aftermath as a crowd began to gather. “When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid” (5:15).

This man was someone they were familiar with; the crowd actually recognized him. He was the one they saw dodging in and out of nearby caves, living as a total recluse, cast out of society, an outcast even of his own mind. Yet, seeing the one they were used to avoiding suddenly dressed and in his right mind evoked within them, not delight or amazement, not thanks or hopefulness, but fear. No one suspected that this was a shadow of all they longed for themselves. Seeing Jesus, the instrument of healing—the one who set right what was wrong—they were simply afraid. And they begged him to leave.

As the Israelites beheld the desert and the townspeople beheld Legion, both missed what God was doing because they were troubled by the failures of their imagination. It brings quiet inquiries to mind. Do we not still oscillate between being too uncomfortable to trust and too comfortable to believe?" RZIM/Jill Carattini

5:5

But seek not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beersheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nought. KJV

{and do not ye seek (out) Bethel, and do not ye enter into Gilgal, and ye shall not pass to Beersheba;
for why Gilgal shall be led (away) captive, and Bethel shall be unprofitable.}Wycliffe's Bible

They had sought to Bethel, where one of the golden calves was; they had frequented Gilgal, a place which they chose to set up idols in, because it had been made famous in the days of Joshua by God’s wonderful appearances to and for his people. Beer-sheba likewise, a place that had been famous in the days of the patriarchs, was now another rendezvous of idols; as we find also... Now, having thus shamefully gone a whoring from God, no doubt they should have felt themselves concerned to return to him.

Creation Moment 11/29/2015 - Questions for "Lucy"

"Is she, or isn’t she? Lucy has long been hailed (by evolutionists) as
the poster-child for bipedality over braininess—the proof that our ancestors learned to walk on two legs before they really learned to think on their feet. Is Lucy, the now legendary Australopithecus afarensis fossil found in 1974, the real mother of humanity? Is that even the question?

Opinions among evolutionists vary—
Was Lucy the oldest pioneer of bipedality?
Did she have an arched foot or not?
Did her cousins walk boldly upright across Tanzania leaving footprints at Laetoli?
Was she a closet knuckle-walker who kept her options open?
Was her branch on the evolutionary tree the one that led to us or just a dead end?
Have new findings concerning the shape of her jaw (a more gorilla-like morphology than a human ancestor should have!) lost her spot on the trunk of our hominid tree?
Have the numerous re-datings of Lucy and other discoveries such as Homo habilis finally arrived at an acceptable set of dates?
Or are these even the right questions to be asking?
What, truly, is Lucy’s legacy?" AIG
So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God created he him;
male and female created he them.

Papal Notes - Global Glue of GREEN Religion

Pope using GREEN Religion as Global Glue

"Pope Francis celebrated a historic Mass in Kenya on Thursday before delivering a stern environmental warning just days ahead of a key climate change conference in Paris.
"It would be sad, and I dare say even catastrophic, were particular interests to prevail over the common good and lead to manipulating information in order to protect their own plans and projects," the Pope said, urging nations to reach an agreement over curbing fossil fuel emissions.
He urged politicians to work together with the corporate and scientific worlds, and civil society leaders in finding solutions to stop environmental degradation.
No country, he said, "can act independently of a common responsibility. If we truly desire positive change, we have to humbly accept our interdependence."
The Pope spoke at the world headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital. The U.N. climate change conference opens next week." CNN

Creation Moment 11/28/2015 - Don't accuse God of using macro evolution

"Others have said: "But God could have created by a long evolutionary process if He wanted to." No, He couldn't! God can do everything except contradict Himself and His own nature.
    God is not a man,
    that he should lie;
    Numbers 23:19
Evolution is the most wasteful and most cruel process that one could ever devise by which to "create" men and women. Christians should not accuse God of being responsible for the evolutionary process.

Nor does it help any to say that God interspersed various acts of
special creation at different times throughout the long geological ages. This is what is usually meant by the term "progressive creation." Modern evolutionary biologists and paleontologists proposed a similar concept--only they called it "punctuated equilibrium." They explained the many gaps in the fossil record, not by sporadic creation events, but as sudden evolutionary developments triggered by mass extinctions which punctuate long periods of "stasis," or equilibrium." Creation Moment 5/26/2015 - ‘Get ’Em Young’

"An evolution-promoting author has released an illustrated children’s book, titled “Grandmother Fish,” that uses whimsical text and drawings to convince preschoolers that they are the products of evolution and the descendants of animals.
Grandmother Fish: a child’s first book of Evolution” is a 40-page children’s book written by Jonathan Tweet. The book begins by introducing its readers to a fish from whom all humans
    supposedly descended.
This is our Grandmother Fish,” the book’s opening line says. “She lived a long, long, long, long, long time ago.”
She could wiggle and swim fast,” the next page says. “Can you wiggle?”
Tweet then introduces other important figures in the evolutionary tree—a reptile, a mammal, an ape, and then a primitive human. Other creatures, including sharks, dinosaurs, horses, whales, and elephants, are described as “cousins.” The book closes with a description of evolutionary concepts for parents to explain to their children.

Since the book’s recent release, various evolutionists have enthusiastically endorsed it.
Aren’t kids of this age too little to be taught evolution?” asked NPR’s Barbara King. “My answer is no—not too young.”
We all know by now that more than 40 percent of Americans say that God created human beings in our present form in the last 10,000 years,” King continued. “…That dismal situation cries out for big efforts in science education and … there’s hard evidence to show that the storybook route can be effective in kids’ mastery of evolutionary concepts.”
P.Z. Myers, an ardent atheist and outspoken evolutionist, praised Tweet’s book as “a great idea” that will make kids believe evolution from an early age.
Get ’em young,” he wrote on his blog."

"The Sydney archbishop has strongly defended the freedom of the Catholic Church in response to a legal complaint claiming the Australian bishops’ pastoral letter on marriage violated Tasmania’s strict anti-discrimination law.
The legal complaint targeted Archbishop Julian Porteous of Hobart, Tasmania and the Australian Catholic Bishops’ Conference as a whole. The bishops’ conference had authored the booklet, “Don’t Mess with Marriage,” a pastoral letter issued May 28.

The pastoral letter was sent home with students of Catholic high schools in several archdioceses,

including Hobart. It stressed both respect for all and respect for the unique nature of marriage as a union of man and a woman. It also rejected claims that current Australian law and Catholic teaching on marriage wrongly discriminate.

On Nov. 12 Tasmania’s anti-discrimination commissioner said it would investigate the complaint. The following week, the archbishop agreed to go through a conciliation process to address the complaint.

The complaint was filed by Martine Delaney, an LGBT activist and 2016 candidate for the Australian Green party for the country’s federal House of Representatives.

I’ve sought an apology and for the Catholic education system to involve itself in LGBTI awareness for students,” Delaney said, according to Australia’s Sky News.

Delaney, who identifies as transgender, charged that the booklet was inappropriate and acted to marginalize same-sex couples and their families.

The Sydney archdiocese said the complaint was filed in Tasmania because of its unique anti-discrimination law. The law bars conduct that could reasonably be anticipated to offend, humiliate, insult or ridicule another person on the basis of several categories, including sexual orientation.

The move comes ahead of an expected national plebiscite on the definition of marriage."

SDA News - Pathfinders bus crash in Mexico

"Nearly three dozen Pathfinders escaped a bus crash with mostly scratches and bruises thanks to
God’s miraculous intervention after their vehicle lost its brakes on a mountainous road en route to a camporee in Mexico, their director said.
Director Sergio Cruz Robles described a horrific race down the mountain at 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 13 as the Pathfinders from the state of Michoacan in central Mexico traveled 330 miles to the camporee of about 3,300 Pathfinders.
Cruz said he realized that the bus driver was struggling to make the curves on the mountainous road all night, so he moved closer to the front of the bus to see what was wrong.
“I could tell that the bus driver was trying hard to find a way to stop,” Cruz said by phone from his hospital bed, where he was recovering from a fractured pelvis. “We were either going to land in a large ditch or crash into a tree, and that could have been fatal.” ANN

Creation Moment 11/24/2015 - 2 Bad Evolutionary Assumptions

For the invisible things of him
from the creation of the world are clearly seen,
being understood by the things that are made,
......so that they are without excuse:
    Romans 1:20
"The first bad, and fairly common, assumption of origin-of-life researchers is that the question can be answered in terms of chemistry. That is, if one can deduce ways in which natural conditions produce life's chemical building blocks, then this would solve the problem. Not so, says a new paper on the subject, which appears in the Royal Society journal Interface. The researchers wrote,
We need to explain the origin of both the hardware [biochemical] and software [coded information] aspects of life, or the job is only half finished. Explaining the chemical substrate of life and claiming it as a solution to life's origin is like pointing to silicon and copper as an explanation for the goings-on inside a computer.

The authors recognized that living cells need more than just their parts—they need at least two levels of information.
One level is the blueprint specifying the construction of a new cell.
Another level is a "supervisory unit" that specifies when the blueprint's information should be accessed and when the blueprint should be copied.
These roles, and many others, are filled by an array of biological machines in living cells.
"In a nutshell, the authors shift attention from the 'hardware'—the chemical basis of life—to the 'software'– its information content," according to Arizona State University News.

It is nice that evolution scientists are finally
catching up with what creation scientists have long recognized—the origin of life must account for the origin of information.

The second bad assumption in the question, "How did non-living chemicals become the first living cell?" is that natural processes alone can explain life's origin. This stems from religiously-held beliefs, not from scientific observation. The study authors wrote,
While we have stressed that Darwinian evolution lacks a capacity to elucidate the physical mechanisms underlying the transition from non-life to life or to distinguish nonliving from living, evolution of some sort must still drive this transition.

Why must evolution drive the supposed "transition" from disorder to specified, coded information in cells? The researchers gave no answer but wrote, "How this transition occurs remains an open question." Apparently, they were only open to Darwinian answers." ICR

Time: Moment by Moment slipping away

Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. Colossians 4:5-6.
Time is the most precious resource available to us. Obviously, it becomes available moment by moment, and there is absolutely no way to recapture what has moved into the past. So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalm 90:12.
That is why we are to “redeem the time.” The Greek term is exagoradzo, meaning to buy up or to make the most of time “because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:16." ICR

Creation Moment 11/23/2015 - That was fast

"That was fast. Excitement about the "most Earth-like planet ever," the potentially habitable and therefore hypothetically inhabited Kepler 438b, launched in January with an announcement at the American Astronomical Society meeting here in Seattle. Researchers from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics bore the good news.
From the story in The Guardian:
An alien world that orbits a distant star in the constellation of Lyra may be the most
Earth-like planet ever found outside the solar system.
The planet, named Kepler 438b, is slightly larger than Earth and circles an orange dwarf star that bathes it in 40% more heat than our home planet receives from the sun.
The small size of Kepler 438b makes it likely to be a rocky world, while its proximity to its star puts it in the "Goldilocks" or habitable zone where the temperature is just right for liquid water to flow.
A rocky surface and flowing water are two of the most important factors scientists look for when assessing a planet's chances of being hospitable to life.
Kepler 438b, which is 470 light years away, completes an orbit around its star every 35 days, making a year on the planet pass 10 times as fast as on Earth. Small planets are more likely to be rocky than huge ones, and at only 12% larger than our home planet, the odds of Kepler 438b being rocky are about 70%, researchers said.
That's over, it seems, just ten months later. As we learn now, it seems more probable that this "most Earth-like planet [is] uninhabitable due to radiation."

Presumably, life driven by biological information on another planet would call for an inference to design just as it does on Earth. Tell me how the logic would differ because of a transfer of venues across some number of light years?" EN&V

"In Job's uttermost extremity he cried after the Lord.
The longing desire of an afflicted child of God is once more to see his Father's face.

    It is the heaven-born instinct

Turning away with bitter scorn from earth's hives, where we find no honey, but many sharp stings, .... In every trouble we should first seek to realize God's presence with us. Only let us enjoy His smile, and we can bear our daily cross with a willing heart for His dear sake."

I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.
    KJV

{I destroyed you, as God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye be made as a brand ravished (out)
of (the) burning; and ye turned not again to me, saith the Lord. }Wycliffe's Bible

God had threatened to destroy the whole land with such an overthrow as that of Sodom, Deu. 29:23 . But he began with some particular places first, to give them warning, or perhaps with some particular persons, whose sins went beforehand to judgment.
Others very narrowly escaped: "You were many of you as a firebrand plucked out of the burning,....

Creation Moment 11/22/2015 - Big Bang Bumble

"Big bang theory didn’t expect massive galaxies so early, but they’ve known about this problem for
over a decade. Astronomers at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) reported an unexpectedly large number of massive galaxies in the early universe.

The team led by Karina Caputi counted 574 massive galaxies estimated to have existed just one billion years after the big bang. The big bang is commonly dated at 13.7 billion years ago. Why is that a problem? In addition, the astronomers found that massive galaxies were more plentiful than had been thought. Galaxies that were previously hidden make up half of the total number of massive galaxies present when the Universe was between 1.1 and 1.5 billion years old. These new results, however, contradict current models of how galaxies evolved in the early Universe, which do not predict any monster galaxies at these early times.

To complicate things further, if massive galaxies are unexpectedly dustier in the early Universe than astronomers predict then even UltraVISTA wouldn’t be able to detect them." CEH
