GOSPEL Gem: Seeking a Sign

Synergy of Matthew 16:1-4/Mark 8:12,13/Luke 11:29-32

The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came,
and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.

And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith,
Why doth this generation seek after a sign?

He answered and said unto them,
When it is evening, ye say,
It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring.
O ye hypocrites,
ye can discern the face of the sky;
but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

This is an evil generation:
they seek a sign;

and there shall no sign be given it,
but the sign of Jonah the prophet.
For as Jonah was a sign unto the Ninevites,
so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.

The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation,
and condemn them:
for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon;
and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

The men of Ninevah shall rise up in the judgment with this generation,
and shall condemn it:
for they repented at the preaching of Jonah;
and, behold, a greater than Jonah is here.

A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign;

And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.

Paul adds - For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, Romans 1:20

"Those who desired a sign from Jesus had so hardened their hearts in unbelief that they did not discern in His character the likeness of God."
