SDA News - Herb Douglas 1927 - 2014

Herbert Douglas died this month.....
16 May 1927- 15 Dec 2014

He was one of the old defenders of true Adventism against the rise of the "progressive" so-called Adventists that stemmed from Questions on Doctrines in the 1950's.
He also worked at the Review & Herald in the 1970's and with Amazing Facts for a short time.

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
Psalm 116:15

Puritan Corner - Cheap Physician

"Christ is the most cheap physician, he takes no fee. He desires us to bring nothing to him but broken hearts; and when he has cured us he desires us to bestow nothing on him but our love."
by Thomas Watson (1620-1686)

Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?
Jeremiah 8:22

IN the NEWS - Taco Bell Gay Ad

"A video of a supposedly unaired Taco Bell commercial has leaked.
The video shows two men falling in love as they eat Taco Bell. At the end, they even get married.
Taco Bell lately wrote this concerning the video:
We didn’t create this ad, but we can see the people who did share the same Live Mas passion for our brand—and our breakfast—as we do. Although we cannot condone unauthorized use of our intellectual property, we are impressed with their work and would be open to meeting with them.”
Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot;

Creation Moment 12/31/2014 - Terpenes

Another EXAMPLE of undeniable Complex DESIGN with a purpose:
For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his
eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen,
being understood from what has been made,
so that people are without excuse.
Romans 1:20 NIV

"In 2008, it was 41. In 2012, it grew to 140. Now, the number is 262. What is it? It's the number of aromatic compounds that bacteria are known to synthesize. A new third-generation inventory of "terpene synthase" genes in bacteria has revealed widespread ability in simple microbes to manufacture complex organic compounds. Each chemical compound is backed by one or more genes that codes for an enzyme machine ("synthase") able to construct it.

What are terpenes? They are smelly organic compounds (the name is taken from turpentine), volatile molecules that organisms use for various functions. The distinctive odors in a forest and in the soil are largely due to these chemicals produced inside living cells. Most are made by plants and fungi, although termites, butterflies, and other insects manufacture terpenes, and some of the largest and most complex are made by animals. A 2007 paper in Nature Chemical Biology listed some of the functions of terpenes and wondered at how evolution created so many different organisms able to use them:
As the largest class of natural products, terpenes have a variety of roles in mediating antagonistic and beneficial interactions among organisms. They defend many species of plants, animals and microorganisms against predators, pathogens and competitors, and they are involved in conveying messages to conspecifics and mutualists regarding the presence of food, mates and enemies. Despite the diversity of terpenes known, it is striking how phylogenetically distant organisms have come to use similar structures for common purposes. New natural roles undoubtedly remain to be discovered for this large class of compounds, given that such a small percentage of terpenes has been investigated so far.
Now, the Japanese team has expanded that "striking" fact to bacteria, pushing the origin of the technology for synthesizing hundreds of complex compounds down into the simplest of organisms: bacteria. What's also astonishing is that bacteria produce some unique terpenes not known from higher organisms, such as plants and fungi." EN&V

Papal Notes - Here comes Babylon?

"He has been called the “superman pope”, ... It looks as if he will
give it a go. In 2015, the pope will issue a lengthy message on the subject to the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics, give an address to the UN general assembly and call a summit of the world’s main religions.....the pope’s wish to directly influence next year’s crucial UN climate meeting in Paris, when countries will try to conclude 20 years of fraught negotiations with a universal commitment to reduce emissions.
“Our academics supported the pope’s initiative to influence next year’s crucial decisions,” Sorondo told Cafod
, the Catholic development agency, at a meeting in London. “The idea is to convene a meeting with leaders of the main religions to make all people aware of the state of our climate and the tragedy of social exclusion.”
In recent months, the pope has argued for a radical new financial and economic system to avoid human inequality and ecological devastation." TheGuardian

Have we not been warning that the GREEN Religion could be used to unite spiritual Babylon & spiritual Egypt (secular world) in cooperating in the mark of the beast? Babylon does it to appease an angry "Father God" & Egypt goes along to appease an angry "mother earth". Remember, Revelation doesn't tell us HOW Babylon gets the world to go along-that it just does. this could be part of the HOW (by setting aside a day to reduce our supposed "carbon footprint" sort of a Sabbath for mother earth)..
..and all the world wondered after the beast. Revelation 13:3

A Knowledge of the Truth

"Our own souls must be firmly grounded in a knowledge of the truth, if we would win others from error to truth.
We need now to search the Scriptures diligently, that, as we become acquainted with unbelievers,
we may hold up before them
Christ as the anointed,
the crucified,
the risen Savior,
witnessed to by prophets,
testified of by believers,
and through whose name we receive the forgiveness of our sins."

thy judgments have I laid before me.

"The Bible App has been downloaded more than 162 million times, according to the app's creator, YouVersion. And unlike the print version of the immensely popular sacred text, the digital version can be mined for data.
That traceability lets YouVersion come up with a number of interesting conclusions about how users all over the world are reading the Bible.

Gruenewald also found it remarkable that the most popular verse of the year internationally, Romans 12:2

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

In America, Brazil, and Nigeria, Philippians 4:8 came out as the frontrunner.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Canada, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Australia were captivated by Jeremiah 29:11 this year.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD,
thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
The social network feature added in 2014 allowed users to see and comment on others' Bible activity -- making it possible for friends to have mobile Bible studies. He's hoping the feature will become increasingly popular in 2015. They're also experimenting with making it easier to share scripture using images." HP

Creation Moment 12/30/2014 - Eye / Brain coordination

"The brain compresses images in the prefrontal cortex before the eye performs its rapid, regular
movements (saccades), a paper in Nature reports.  To do this, the neurons in the brain have to converge toward the target space of the movement.  What this means is that the brain predicts where the movement will occur, and prepares for it, so that perception is stable in spite of continual motion of the eyes." IN the NEWS - Christmas Tweet Controversy

"Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson isn’t building bridges between science and religion during the holiday season.

The famed scientist is under fire for making statements his critics said belittled Christmas and shows a lack of respect for Christians, which included a tweet that recognized the birthday of revolutionary physicist and mathematician, Isaac Newton, on Christmas day.

Mr. Tyson
On this day long ago, a child was born who, by age 30, would transform the world. Happy Birthday Isaac Newton b. Dec 25, 1642,” deGrasse tweeted, among other statements." Yahoo

1) This atheist can tweet anything he's his right
2) Christ wasn't actually born on December 25
3) And Isaac Newton was a believer that science is simply documenting how God's creation operates & Newton wrote more on Bible prophecy than science & math, including on the 2300 days of Daniel 8:14 (as documented in the past on this blog)

I have seen the foolish taking root:
Job 5:3

Numbers 15:41
1) All morality is based on the existence of God
2) None are righteous without Him

Creation Moment 12/29/2014 - Defending It... PERIOD

".....compromising on creation leaves one with an impoverished
theology. Our ‘young earth’ view (we prefer the term ‘biblical creationist’), is not just some interpretation as some like to say. It is clearly the most straightforward view derived from Scripture that has been the major view throughout church history,.... Now, you say this is a divisive issue, and we would agree. But we would argue that the divisive ones are the ones who are bringing unbiblical doctrines into the church and trying to convince Christians to reinterpret the Bible. We are simply defending the biblical understanding of creation." CMI

Creation Moment 12/28/2014 - Molecular Catch 22

"Now, a recent article at Science Daily, "Turn back the molecular clock, say Argentina's plant
fossils," reveals that not only do molecular clocks sometimes tick too fast, but alternatively they may also tick "too slowly." More precisely put, sometimes molecular clocks show fewer molecular differences than an evolutionary interpretation of the fossil record would predict. The article explains why this indicates that molecular clocks are untrustworthy:
The finding suggests serious biases in molecular clocks, which are heavily used to date many kinds of living things. ... "Paleontology and molecular clocks have a long, uneasy relationship," said Peter Wilf, a paleobotanist and professor of geoscience, Penn State. "Paleontologists want molecular clocks to work. However, for years we have seen molecular dates, mostly for very deep evolutionary events, that are much older than the corresponding fossils. This situation has been a frustrating Catch-22 because if the clocks are wrong, no fossils exist that could demonstrate they are wrong. Here, we looked at many new plant fossils from the extremely productive region of Patagonia, and we found the opposite, that the fossils are much older than the clock dates. In this case, we can definitely say that the clocks are wrong. The fossils prove it." EN&V

Last Sabbath of 2014

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
And on the seventh day God ended his work
which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it:
because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Genesis 2:1-3

But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God:
in it thou shalt not do any work,...For in six days the LORD
made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is,
and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the
sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Exodus 20:10,11

And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven,
having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on
the earth, .... Saying with a loud voice, Fear God,
and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and
worship him that made heaven,
and earth, and the sea,
and the fountains of waters.
Revelation 14:6,7

Creation Moment 12/26/2014 - Chide Away

"....some of the crazy ideas emerging from modern cosmology: notions like the multiverse, inflation,
Everett's "many-worlds" scenario, and other concoctions that try to escape the overwhelming evidence for design in the universe (namely, cosmic fine-tuning and the stringent requirements for habitability). Now, two leading big-bang cosmologists are joining us in the criticism, in a very high level venue, but for quite different reasons. Here's what George Ellis and Joe Silk say in Nature ("Scientific Method: Defend the Integrity of Physics"):
This year, debates in physics circles took a worrying turn. Faced with difficulties in applying fundamental theories to the observed Universe, some researchers called for a change in how theoretical physics is done. They began to argue -- explicitly -- that if a theory is sufficiently elegant and explanatory, it need not be tested experimentally, breaking with centuries of philosophical tradition of defining scientific knowledge as empirical. We disagree. As the philosopher of science Karl Popper argued: a theory must be falsifiable to be scientific.
In particular, they chide the string theorists, multiverse advocates, inflation theorists, and purveyors of the "many worlds" interpretation of quantum mechanics. Speaking of inflation, it's interesting that Science Magazine listed the downfall of the BICEP2 results on inflation as one of the leading "Breakdowns" (as opposed to "Breakthroughs") of the year." E.G.W. on Christmas

"The 25th of December has long been commemorated as the day of Jesus' birth, and in this article it is not my purpose to affirm or question the propriety of celebrating this event on this day, but to dwell upon the childhood and life of our Savior.

It is my purpose to call the attention of the children to the humble
manner in which the Redeemer came to the world. All heaven was interested in the great event of Christ's advent to earth. Heavenly messengers came to make known the birth of the long-promised, long-expected Savior to the humble shepherds who were watching their flocks by night on the plains of Bethlehem. The first manifestation that attracted the notice of the shepherds at the birth of the Savior, was a radiant light in the starry heavens, which filled them with wonder and admiration.

"And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them,
Fear not:
for, behold,
I bring you good tidings of great joy,
which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you:
Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes,
lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host
praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace, good will toward men."
Dear children, shall not these precious words, coming from the lips of heavenly angels, find a response in our hearts? Shall they not awaken gladness and melody in the soul because Jesus has come to our world to bring back to God those who through sin were estranged from him?

All heaven was moved on the occasion of the Savior's birth. The triumphant song which the shepherds heard was only an echo of the praise resounding round the throne on high. The whole angelic host rejoiced and sung praises because salvation was presented as a free gift to fallen man.

After the proclamation song to the shepherds, the heavenly multitude veiled their faces from human sight, the flood of heavenly light passed away, the thrilling song of praise was no longer heard by the shepherds; but the remembrance of that song could never die out of their hearts.

The angels were amazed at the great love of Christ that led him to suffer and die on Calvary to rescue man from the power of Satan. The work of redemption is a marvel to the angels of heaven. Why, then, are we, for whom so great a salvation has been provided, so indifferent, so cold and unloving?Let the hearts of all respond with exceeding joy for the priceless gift of the Son of God. Mrs. E. G. White." Review & Herald 1889 E.G.W.

100 years ago-WW 1 Christmas Truce

"Starting on Christmas Eve, many German and British troops sang Christmas carols to each other across the lines, and at certain points the Allied soldiers even heard brass bands joining the Germans in their joyous singing.
At the first light of dawn on Christmas Day, some German soldiers emerged from their trenches and approached the Allied lines across no-man’s-land, calling out “Merry Christmas” in their enemies’ native tongues. At first, the Allied soldiers feared it was a trick, but seeing the Germans unarmed they climbed out of their trenches and shook hands with the enemy soldiers. The men exchanged presents of cigarettes and plum puddings and sang carols and songs. There was even a documented case of soldiers from opposing sides playing a good-natured game of soccer.
Some soldiers used this short-lived ceasefire for a more somber task: the retrieval of the bodies of fellow combatants who had fallen within the no-man’s land between the lines.
The so-called Christmas Truce of 1914 came only five months after the outbreak of war in Europe and was one of the last examples of the outdated notion of chivalry between enemies in warfare. It was never repeated—future attempts at holiday ceasefires were quashed by officers’ threats of disciplinary action—but it served as heartening proof, however brief, that beneath the brutal clash of weapons, the soldiers’ essential humanity endured.
During World War I, the soldiers on the Western Front did not expect to celebrate on the battlefield, but even a world war could not destory the Christmas spirit."
Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace,
good will toward men.
Luke 2:14

Creation Moment 12/24/2014 - Ant Micro-evolution

"Of the estimated 14,000 species of ant, only half of have been studied in any detail. Most of these diverse species live in social colonies with a rigid caste system. The queen's role is to reproduce, she is the mother of the colony. Drones are fertile males that service the queen while princesses are her fertile daughters that will establish new colonies. The rest are the queen's sterile daughters that defend the colony as soldiers or provide food, maintenance and care as workers.

The best known ant species have remarkable adaptations to their environments, such as the famous leaf cutter ants that carry 50 times their body weight, fetching pieces of leaf to use as fertilizer for nourishing fungus.

In honeypot ant colonies, specially adapted workers known as repletes store sugar and protein
solutions in their swollen abdomens which can grow to the size of a cherry.

Slavemaker ants are named for their habit of shirking the hard work, instead capturing the pupae of other colonies to raise as slave workers.

These tiny insects are incredibly tough: fire ants can form rafts to float on flood waters, species in
Canada produce their own anti-freeze to survive at below -20C, while the desert ants of the Sahara forage in searing 60C heat.

Such evolutionary adaptations are fascinating;"BBC STOP--- these " evolutionary adaptations" are examples of micro-evolution, better known as genetic variation within a kind. These ants are still ANTS. They apparently could all do these things at one time, but as small groups early on, those who lost through genetic mutations the info would die out in a hostile environment. The rest adapted, multiplied 7 survived.
Macro-evolution on the other hand, is like from a whale to a human or a dinosaur to a bird or some other nonsense.
Go to the ant, thou sluggard;
consider her ways, and be wise:
Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
Provideth her meat in the summer,
and gathereth her food in the harvest.
Proverbs 6:6-8
