"A Roman Catholic Church in Indiana that sent communion wafers to a lab to be analyzed after red stains believed by some to be the blood of Christ miraculously appeared on them was disappointed to learn it was only bacteria.Earlier this year, Roman Catholics at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Morris, IN, were in awe after some of their communion wafers began to “bleed.”
Because Catholics believe the consecrated bread is the literal, actual physical body of Jesus, it was supposed that this might be a Eucharistic miracle, prompting the Archdiocese of Indianapolis to send out the wafers to a lab for a formal inspection.
The results were not so miraculous; however, after a biochemical analysis revealed only “fungus and three different species of bacteria, all of which are commonly found on human hands,” according to a statement from the Archdiocese earlier this week."
