Papal Notes - 800,000 bend the knee

French Revolution and calling on the faithful to “
bring hope wherever discouragement and spiritual dryness prevail.”
France appears to be reviving, with baptisms of adults and teenagers hitting record levels this year in France, up 20 per cent over 2025.
The strength of the Catholic Church, which remains the largest religion in France, was on full display on Saturday, as an estimated 800,000 faithful flocked to the Champs-Élysées and the Place de la Concorde in central Paris for an outdoor mass led by Pope Leo XIV.
Driving down the cleared historic avenue, an honor usually reserved for French Presidents on Bastille Day, Leo was greeted by thousands of cheering people, while blessing children as he made his way from Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde.
Meanwhile, priests dotted the avenue, hearing open-air confessions from the faithful.
The Pope noted that there was a long history of French people who sacrificed for their faith, including Saints Irenaeus, Martin, and Francis de Sales, while adding that there are people who to this day “continue to devote themselves to the cause of life, the family, truth, peace, fraternity and justice.”.... “God’s surprising work” in combating the age of secularism that was in ushered into being during the Revolution.
Later that night, Pope Leo held an evening vigil for 80,000 young Catholics at France’s national soccer stadium in Paris, where he became the first pope to venerate the Holy Tunic of Christ, which has been venerated as Christ’s tunic in France for over 12 centuries after it was gifted to Emperor Charlemagne from Empress Irene of Constantinople around the year 800.
After the Mass in Paris, Pope Leo will travel to Lourdes in the foothills of the Pyrenees, where he is expected to greet over 150,000 pilgrims. The town and its Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes became one of the Catholic world’s top pilgrimage destinations following the 1858 apparitions of the Virgin Mary to St. Bernadette at the Grotto of Massabielle. Pope Leo will be the first to visit the site since Benedict XVI visited in 2008 for the 150th anniversary of the apparitions."

Creation Moment 10/1/2026 - Ushikawa Man DEBUNKED

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.
For it is written,
He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
1 Corinthians 3:19

"Between 1957 and 1959 two fossilized limb bone parts were uncovered in Japan. Scientists thought the bones were human—a portion of humerus (upper arm bone) and the head of a femur (thigh bone). So they were dubbed ‘
Ushikawa Man’ because they were found at the Ushikawa (牛川 = Ox River’) district in Toyohashi city, Aichi Prefecture, central Japan.

Scientists claimed that ‘
Ushikawa Man’ was a male human who lived somewhere between 129–774 thousand years (ka) ago. This would make him Japan’s most ancient fossil human. A few decades later, the ‘date’ began to be progressively revised down to about 20 ka ago, still among the country’s oldest fossil humans. That is, until recently.

A 2024 study has re-examined the bones and discovered that they
are in fact the bones of a
brown bear
. The ‘humerus’ was actually a radius bone—from the bear’s forearm, not its upper arm. And the femur head was also from the bear. ‘Ushikawa Man’ actually never was.

This is not the first time that bear and human bones have been confused. A bone found in a cave in Alaska in the 1990s, even though found near shell beads, was thought to belong to a bear. When re-examined in 2019, it turned out instead to belong to a Native American woman.

Incidents like this should remind us to be cautious about interpretations of the past when the physical evidence is scant. In fact, this is only one of many instances in which a further examination of the physical evidence has led to museum displays correcting their signage. The obvious lesson is that we should be especially cautious about interpretations of physical evidence which promote or convey an evolutionary worldview that contradicts Biblical history." CMI
