Puritan Corner - The Pit

The best course to prevent falling into the pit — is to keep at the greatest distance.
by Thomas Brooks (1608–1680)

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing;
2 Corinthians 6:17

Driving a Stake through them

The Reason Why other Denominations HATE the SANCTUARY DOCTRINE / INVESTIGATIVE  JUDGMENT is because it DRIVES A STAKE THROUGH THE HEART OF THEIR FALSE DOCTRINES ON SOTERIOLOGY (doctrines of salvation)
I saw the Lord standing upon the altar:
 and He said,
Smite the lintel of the door,
that the posts may shake:
Amos 9:1
The Sanctuary Doctrine/IJ DRIVES A STAKE THROUGH THE HEART OF SACRAMENTALISM (the idea that the sacraments of the church can save you-such as Mass, Last Rites, Confession, Indulgences, Penance, Intercession of the Saints) by showing that Christ is your only intercessor and thereby highlights the BLASPHEMY of man taking an intercessory role upon himself.

The Sanctuary Doctrine/IJ DRIVES A STAKE THROUGH THE HEART OF PREDESTINATION (the idea that you were Predestined before your birth to be saved or lost, thereby denying free will as a component) by shattering it to it's core-for if there is a literal Pre-Advent Judgment-then OBVIOUSLY you were not Predestined to be saved or lost, for a judgment would be a waste of time.

The Sanctuary Doctrine/IJ DRIVES A STAKE THROUGH THE HEART OF ONCE-SAVED-ALWAYS-SAVED by pointing out that if your name can be blotted out of the Book of Life- then ONCE-SAVED-ALWAYS-SAVED would be demonstrated to be a LIE.

The Sanctuary Doctrine/IJ, as it relates to FREE WILL, would undermine the "Lutheran View" which is the notion that FREE WILL exists to all-but whether one can be lost after being saved is a mystery. It would no longer be a mystery. As to the total FREE WILL of ARMINIANISM the Sanctuary Doctrine/IJ serves as an anchor via the SDA view of TRUE RIGHTEOUSNESS BY FAITH (Justification/Grace/Outer Court + Sanctification/Obedience/Inner Court = being prepared for your Judgment in the Most Holy Place & receiving Glorification if one passes their Judgment) by making sense of ARMINIANISM in the context of this GREAT CONTROVERSY between God & His opponent.

The Sanctuary Doctrine/IJ DRIVES A STAKE THROUGH THE HEART OF UNIVERSALISM (the idea that everyone universally will be saved-from Hitler to mother Teresa-which makes a Judgment pointless) by shining the light on it and exposing it as the most dangerous soteriology.
As for it's watered down form-PLURALISM (the idea that many paths lead to the Christian God, such as being a faithful good Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, Neo-Pagan, etc.) it points to only one door into the Sanctuary of Salvation- I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved,... I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 10:9/John 14:6

"*The sanctuary in heaven is the very center of Christ's work in behalf of men.
*It concerns every soul living upon the earth.

*It opens to view the plan of redemption, bringing us down to the very close of time, and revealing the triumphant issue of the contest between righteousness and sin.
*It is of the utmost importance that all should thoroughly investigate these subjects, and be able to give an answer to every one that asketh them a reason of the hope that is in them."

The Reformation Simplified SERIES: Calvin vs. Luther on Soteriology

Calvinism gets its TULIP acronym in a summary of soteriological doctrinal points... This TULIP acronym is derived from the so-called “5-points of Calvinism” (Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace, and the Perseverance of the Saints).

Of particular interest in viewing the differences between Calvinism and Lutheranism is the 3rd point, limited atonement. This Calvinist doctrine teaches that Jesus’s death atoned for the sins of a limited, or particular, group of people.
Limited atonement is rejected in the Lutheran framework which instead teaches that Jesus’ death atoned for the sins of each and every person in the world without exception.

IN the NEWS - Sweden hardens heart

"UMEA, Sweden,  – A Salvation Army-run preschool in Sweden was too Christian in its educational content, a government inspection found, so the school has stopped its "Bible snack time" lessons and praying grace before meals.
The country's Education Act bans "confessional" educational content during school time. It also says students must always be allowed to opt out of such activities.

Now, instead of grace, children are sung a "rhyme and thanks to the sun, the rain, and the food," SVT.se reported.

The Prime Minister of Sweden made headlines recently when he said he thinks all priests in the Church of Sweden should perform same-sex "weddings" or find another job." LifeSite
Harden not your heart,... Psalm 95:8

---JOB---

"Job is treated as an example of righteousness in Ezekiel 14:14 and as a Prophet by James whose
example of suffering affliction” to help us understand something of the “pity” and “mercy” of the Lord (James 5:10-11).

Two of the greatest statements of faith were uttered by Job: “Though He slay me, I will hope in Him.” (Job 13:15); and “I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will take His stand on the earth” (Job 19:25).

Just what can we gain from the information in this remarkable book?
Job’s “greatest” wealth also gives him the sense of the “greatest” loss.
Eternal principles are set in history for us to see and remember through his life. God’s own instruction is repeated nowhere else in Scripture.
What is it that we must “store” in our hearts from His matchless teaching?

 *Abraham was settling into Canaan,
*Job was being tested by none other than God and Lucifer themselves,
*and the disrupting of the Tower of Babel was barely last year’s news.
*The Ice Age was beginning to tighten its grip on both hemispheres of the planet.
*Ur of the Chaldees was a burgeoning city of 250,000,
*and the “Land of Uz” where Job lived was the major trade center between Egypt and Syria." H3

Job Simplified- Chapter 34

Chapter 34

All flesh shall perish together,
and man shall turn again unto dust.
Job 34:15

                 Elihu discusses the speeches
v1 Then Elihu said:
v2 You are wise men. So, hear my words! You have knowledge. So, listen to me! v3 You taste food before you eat it. So test my words as you listen. v4 We must decide wisely. And together we will work out what is right.
v5 Job said, ‘I am innocent. But God has not been fair to me. v6 I am right, but nobody believes me. God punishes me although I have done nothing wrong.’
v7 Nobody is like Job! Job laughs at God as easily as a man drinks water. v8 He chooses evil friends. And he behaves like a wicked person. v9 So, Job says, ‘A man receives no benefit if he tries to please God.’
v10 Listen to me, if you are wise!
·     God is not evil! God does not do wicked things.
·     v11 God is fair! God punishes evil people. But God rewards good people.
·     v12 God is never wicked! God is always a fair judge.
·     v13 God did not get his power from someone else. And he is the ruler of the whole world.
v14 If God desired, he could take his Spirit from us. Then we could not continue to breathe. v15 We would all die instantly. And all our bodies would return to the earth.
v16 Job, if you are wise, then listen! Think about my words!
v17 If God were not fair, he would not rule the world. You cannot accuse him. He is fair. And he is strong.
·     v18 God is the judge of kings and rulers. He decides whether they are evil. He decides whether they are fools.
·     v19 God is not afraid of important men. He is fair to everybody, whether they are rich or poor. He made them all.
·     v20 The people die suddenly. During the night, they die. Even powerful people die, although no man killed them.
v21 God watches our behaviour. He sees all our actions. v22 No place is so dark that evil people
could hide there from God.
v23 God does not need to choose a time when he will be the judge of men. v24 He does not need to ask questions before he ends the rule of important men. And he replaces them with new rulers. v25 He knows the deeds (of evil men). In the night, he overcomes them totally. v26 He punishes them in public for their evil actions. v27 He punishes them, because they were not loyal to him. And they refused to obey his commands. v28 Such men caused poor people to cry to God. And God heard the cries of those poor people.
v29 But even if God is silent, nobody can complain. Nobody can force God to act. v30 So he may appoint a wicked man to rule a nation, although that man is cruel to the people.
v31 A man might say to God, ‘I am guilty. But now I shall stop my evil deeds. v32 Show me my errors. If my actions were wrong, I shall not do these things again.’
v33 Job, tell me whether God should punish such a man. You seem not to like God’s behaviour. So you should decide, not me. Tell me, if you know!
v34 Men who are wise and intelligent speak to me. They tell me:
v35 ‘Job’s words are not wise. And his speeches show a lack of knowledge.’
v36 Job’s words are like the words of a wicked man. So a judge should accuse Job properly. v37 And Job also opposes us. Moreover, Job speaks against God.

Verses 1-4
Elihu heard the other men’s arguments. They all insisted that they were wise. If they really were wise, then they should be ready to listen to other people’s opinions. When they had heard Elihu’s opinions, they could think about his words. Then they could decide what was right.
Verses 5-6
Job said such things in his speeches. Job always argued that he was innocent.
Verses 7-9
Elihu was saying that Job’s words sounded like the words of a wicked man. Elihu was not saying that Job was evil.
Verses 10-13
These are important verses.
The Bible clearly teaches such things.
·     God is not evil. It was the devil, not God, who caused Job’s troubles.
·     God is fair.
·     We must not accuse God.

Verses 16-20
The Bible teaches that God is the ruler of the world.
·     Pilate thought that he had power over Jesus. But Jesus replied that Pilate’s power came from God – John 19:10-11.
·     When King Nebuchadnezzar did not give honor to God, his mind became ill. For 7 years, he
behaved like an animal. Other men ruled his country. But then Nebuchadnezzar became humble. He praised the true God. And God appointed Nebuchadnezzar to be king again (Daniel chapter 4).
·     King Herod died an awful death soon after he refused to give honour to God (Acts 12:21-23).
God is the judge of even the most important people.
Verses 21-22
We cannot hide from God (Psalm 139:11-12).
Verses 23-27
Job knew that God was a judge.
Verse 28
Job spoke about poor people who cried to God. Job thought that God would not help them (Job 24:10-12).
Elihu did not agree.
Verses 29-30
But God does not always stop the rule of evil men immediately. Sometimes he allows evil men to rule nations.
He is waiting:
·     for people to confess their evil deeds to him (2 Peter 3:9)
·     for Christians to declare God’s message to the people of all nations (Matthew 24:14)
·     for God’s plan about the people of Israel to be complete (Romans 11:25-26)
·     for Christians to know the freedom that comes from God’s Holy Spirit (Romans 8:18-22)
·     for the time when God has chosen for Jesus to return (Mark 13:32).
Verses 31-33
Job and his friends agreed that God should punish evil people. In fact, God prefers to forgive people. However, God will not forgive everyone.
Verses 34-37
If Elihu asked wise men for their advice about Job, they would all agree.
Job wanted God to be his judge (Job 31:35-37). But God was not pleased about everything that Job said (Job 38:1-2).

IN the NEWS - Pelosi & "Common Good"

"Nancy Pelosi: “‘Faith leaders, starting with the Holiness Pope Francis, to the evangelical community, have urged us to be responsible stewards of the beauty of Gods creation. They believe as you live that this planet is Gods creation
and we have a moral responsibility to be good stewards of it…’ When the pope went to the White House, he talked about the dangers of air pollution when he was here. Just last week, the pope met with President Trump and gave him a copy of his encyclical, which made the strong case to halt the climate crisis. The pope wrote the climate is a common good belonging to all and meant for all. The Bible tells us to minister to the needs of Gods creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us and that is what we are doing by walking away from this accord.’”
In other words, those who do not go along with the Popes encyclical and the Paris climate agreement are not worshipping God.

Laid out in Pope Francisencyclical is one of his chief solutions for addressing climate change, which is mandatory Sunday observance. Politicians and religious teachers alike will make the assertion that the calamities which they consider judgments from God are befalling humanity because of their desecration of the Sunday-Sabbath (which is not the Sabbath of the Lord but is a spurious, man-made child of the papacy).

This time is right upon us. The Spirit of God is being withdrawn from the earth. When the angel of mercy folds her wings and departs, Satan will do the evil deeds he has long wished to do.
*Storm and tempest,
*war and bloodshed,--in these things he delights, and thus he gathers in his harvest.
And so completely will men be deceived by him that they will declare that these calamities are the result of the desecration of the first day of the week. From the pulpits of the popular churches will be heard the statement that the world is being punished because Sunday is not honored as it should be. And it will require no great stretch of imagination for men to believe this. They are guided by the enemy, and therefore they reach conclusions which are entirely false." The Review and Herald, September, 17, 1901 E.G.W.

Another startling use of the term common goodin Laudato Si was in connection with the mingling of churchcraft with statecraft. We are told that when these two elements are merging, the end is right upon us.  Here is the statement from Pope Francis: True statecraft is manifest when, in difficult times, we uphold high principles and think of the long-term common good. Political powers do not find it easy to assume this duty in the work of nation-building. HilariHenriques
And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

Those 2 Books on Judgment Day

A fiery stream issued and came forth from before Him: thousand thousands ministered unto Him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.
Daniel 7:10

"These books of judgment are evidently books of records of the "works" of men.

There is another book of God at the judgment: "And another book was opened, which is the book of life: . . . And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire" (Revelation 20:12, 15). In this book are the names of all who are trusting in Christ alone for salvation." HMM

IN the NEWS - SDA & JESUIT

".....the chaplain of the Senate, Barry Black.  For those who were not heretofore familiar with Barry
Black, they were introduced to him at the 65th National Prayer breakfast held February 2, 2017, in which he was the keynote speaker, addressing the newly-elected U.S. President, Donald Trump,...Mr. Trump who stated: “‘I don't know if you're a Democrat or a Republican, but you're appointed for another year. Then realizing Chaplain was Senate's appointment, amidst obvious bi-partisan approval he noted that Chaplain Black had job security either way.Unbeknownst to some, Barry Black also happens to be a Seventh-day Adventist

....the chaplain of the House of Representatives,....The Houses chaplain is Patrick J. Conroy, a Jesuit. Since the election of a Jesuit Pope, Jesuitism is making its way to the mainstream ... The NewsWeek headline sums it up quite well, With their first Pope, Jesuits are making a comeback." ProphesyAgain

Creation Moment 6/30/2017 - GENESIS Matters

The book of Genesis lays the groundwork for the Christian belief system.
Q: Should we treat the Genesis account as historical fact?
A: But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
Mark 10:6
Q: Should we believe in a literal creation?
A: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Exodus 20:11

"Some Christian leaders and teachers, however, would not agree that God created the universe “out of nothing” during the creation
event. Others have suggested that God was merely involved in the background, or somehow operated through natural forces to eventually produce the organized and functioning structures of nature.
The biblical text, however, is consistent in its record that there were omnipotent and omniscient acts of creation. The Scriptures also agree that during the creation week God made and shaped that which He had created into an organized and functioning cosmos, which “was very good” (Genesis 1:31).
Darwinian evolution has as its chief presupposition a disbelief in God and creation." H3

The Reformation Simplified SERIES: Scotland

John Knox
The Reformer of Scotland
Mary, Queen of Scotts, declared: "I am more afraid of the prayers of John Knox than of an army of 10,000!" John Knox's prayer: "Give me Scotland, or I die!" was answered in his own lifetime. John Knox (1514-1572) transformed Scotland from a country with 4% church attendance to one with 96% church attendance, one of the most Reformed nations in the world, and the sending base for such influential Missionaries, as Robert Morrison, David Livingstone and Mary Slessor.

IN the NEWS - Christians Slip Down Under

...they have erred from the faith,... 1 Timothy 6:10

"Tuesday, revealed major changes to Australian society, such as a rise in the number of people who say they have no religion, ...

As BBC News noted, close to one third, or 29.6 percent of respondents to the national survey said that they had "no religion," while only 16 percent said the same in 2001.
Roman Catholicism remained the largest Church in the country, with a 22.6 percent share of the population.
Anglicans followed with 13.3 percent, while the rest were listed as: none stated (9.6 percent), the Uniting Church (3.7 percent), Muslim (2.6 percent), Buddhist (2.4 percent), Hindu (1.9 percent), Other (0.8 percent), Sikh (0.5 percent) and Jewish (0.4 percent).
The Guardian reported that the "no religion" category includes atheist, secularists, and those who are agnostic.
What is more, since 1966, the proportion of Australians who self-identified as Christians has fallen from 88.2 percent to 52.1 percent now." BCN

ON the Streets of Babylon: Surging towards Sodom

Babylon is fallen, is fallen,...
Come out of her, my people,
Revelation 14:8/18:4
There seem to be on the Streets of Babylon a surge for "Gay Marriage"....

"A new survey just released by the Pew Research Center has found that support for gay marriage in the United States is at an all-time record high. According to the survey, 62 percent of all Americans are now in favor of allowing gays and lesbians to get married, and only 32 percent are opposed.
These numbers have almost flipped completely upside down from where they were a decade ago. In 2007, 54 percent of all Americans were against gay marriage and only 37 percent were in favor of it. To say that our culture has been transformed over the past ten years would be a major understatement.
One of the biggest shifts that we have seen has been among evangelicals. This brand new survey discovered that support for gay marriage among white evangelicals has more than doubled since 2007...
Support for gay marriage has risen across all religious groups in recent years, including among white evangelicals and black Protestants. Support for gay marriage among white Evangelicals has more than doubled compared with a decade ago (14 percent then, 35 percent now), while the share of black Protestants who favor gay marriage has increased from 24 percent in 2007 to 44 percent today.
In particular, the shift in favor of gay marriage among evangelicals has been most noticeable among young people. Today, a staggering 47 percent of all white evangelicals born after 1964 favor gay marriage..." Ch
