In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
"The word “created” (bara) in Genesis 1:1 has two primary meanings: 1 ) To create, bring into existence, bring forth, cause to exist (that which had no existence), produce into being, and
2 ) to form, to build or fashion, to shape, to engrave, cut out, etc.
The meaning that is in harmony with the context is number one, since the “earth was without form and void” (verse 2).
The “shaping,” “building” and “forming” would take place on days two through six.
It was the creative act of “causing to exist” that which had not previously existed, that Genesis 1:1 is referring to--creatio ex nihilo." ADvindicate
