1] And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week:
and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease,
Daniel 9:27
"The whole system of types and symbols was a compacted prophecy of the gospel, a presentation in which were bound up the promises of redemption."
Christ in His Sanctuary ch.4, E.G.W.
This is a clear reference to the ceremonial laws relating to the sacrificial system
This included, besides the ceremonial sacrifices in the sanctuary, the 7 ceremonial holy days (also known as ceremonial Sabbaths) - {Feasts of Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, Pentecost, Trumpets, Atonement, Booths} which pointed to the ministry & sacrifice of Christ
* For he is our peace, who hath made both one,
and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
Having abolished in his flesh the enmity,
even the law of commandments contained in ordinances;
for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
Ephesians 2:14,15
* Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us,
which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way,
nailing it to his cross;
Let no man therefore judge you in meat,
or in drink, or in respect of an holyday,
or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Colossians 2:14,16
2] Pre-Cross/Old Covenant (Testament)
If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish:
he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the
tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD.
And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering;
and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him.
Leviticus 1:3,4
"Christ was the foundation of the whole Jewish economy,
which was the symbol prescribed in type for the religious faith and obedience of all people.--They departed from God; they did not fear and honor His holy name, and the temple in which they gloried was destroyed.
Their sacred rites, their sacrifices and ceremonies, ceased. The sacred order of the Levitical priesthood was no longer maintained. Their form of religious service, which the Lord had given them as a blessing whereby they might have a pure and understanding faith, and, through the sacrificial offerings, see Christ as the one who would take away the sin of the world, became a ceremonious transaction.
The outward ceremonies took the place of the inward work of the heart."
Manuscript Releases vol.7, p.333,334 E.G.W.
3] Post-cross/New Covenant (Testament)
And he said unto them,
This is my blood of the new testament,
which is shed for many.
Mark 14:24
"The significance of the typical service in the earthly sanctuary was made light and clear by the reflection of the Sun of Righteousness upon the types and symbols."
Manuscript Releases vol.11, p.54 E.G.W.
4] Paul's Summary:
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament,
that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions
that were under the first testament,
they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
For where a testament is,
there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
Hebrews 9;15,16
"The idea that the Old Testament no longer possesses vital interest because the New Testament has been written, is an idea fatal to the soul of him who believes it. Both the Old Testament and the New are necessary. The New Testament does not contain another Gospel, a new religion. It is but the unfolding of the Old." Signs Of The Times 1898, E.G.W.
5] "The sanctuary in heaven is the very center of Christ's work in behalf of men.
It concerns every soul living upon the earth.
It opens to view the plan of redemption,
bringing us down to the very close of time,
and revealing the triumphant
issue of the contest between righteousness and sin.
issue of the contest between righteousness and sin.
It is of the utmost importance
that all should thoroughly investigate these subjects,
and be able to give to every one that asks them
a reason for the hope that is in them."
