Muhammad wrote that the crucifixion - That they said in boast, “We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the
Messenger of Allah”— but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was
made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no
certain knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed
him not—nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power,
Wise.” Qur’an, Sura 4:157-158
The main Christian group in the region during this time were the Nestorians. But gnosticism existed throughout the east too and it is likely where he got the idea from-for the gnostics were the ones who claimed that Christ was never crucified.In the First Apocalypse of James, Jesus comforts James by saying, “Never have I suffered in any way, nor have I been distressed. And this people has done me no harm.” Second Treatise of the Great Seth, Jesus says, “I did not die in reality, but in appearance.”
Nearly all historians agree that He lived and was crucified.

Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
