Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus, (this is Ahasuerus which reigned, from India even unto Ethiopia,
over an hundred and seven and twenty provinces:)......
..and the deputies and rulers of the provinces
which are from India unto Ethiopia,
an hundred twenty and seven provinces,

Roots of India seem to be in the Indus River Valley civilization. It was one of 4 major early cultures to pop up around river valleys
post Babel (Mesopotamia, Egypt & China were the others).
post Babel (Mesopotamia, Egypt & China were the others).
These people appear to be of Dravidian stock and multiplied rapidly. Later, they moved (from conquest by the lighter skinned Aryans or from disease) further south into the Deccan Plateau of India.
These people were impressively advanced of the 4 major river cultures. They built their villages with streets and houses aligned certain ways & directions, an underground sewer system, etc.
The major cities were Harappa, Mohenjo-Daro & Lothal.
It would not be long for a population post-Babel to expand. For example, lets say that 5 couples of Dravidian stock settled along the Indus River tributaries. And lets use 5 household produced roughly every 20 years. How many households would sprout up within a century? 5x5=25/x5=125/x5=625/x5=3,125/x5=15,625/x5=78,125.....
So as you can see, using a conservative growth rate, a population could easily boom after Babel in just a century. Remember, many in those previous generations would have likely still been living when the last on the list came of age, for an idea of the total population.
Their religious symbols seem to be the roots of Hinduism. They seem to have taken with them from Babel the concept of a trio-
Godhead {Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver), and Shiva (the destroyer)} & proceeded to tweak it as they pleased with nature worship & worship of creatures.

Or as Paul puts it----And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
