The Garden of Eden, dwelling in unity with their Creator, culminated in the Sabbath at the end of the Creation week.
For in six days the LORD made the heavens, the earth, the sea,
and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested.
That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.
Exodus 20:11 NLT
The Garden of Gethsemane, dwelling at the height of the Passion week alone in the Garden, culminated in resting on the Sabbath - in death.
And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation,
that is, the day before the sabbath,
Joseph of Arimathaea, ..... came, and went in boldly unto Pilate,
and craved the body of Jesus.
Mark 15:42,43
Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week,
Mark 16:19
(Notice He rose AFTER Sabbath, even in death He rested on the Sabbath)
SUMMARY
* We keep the literal Sabbath as in Eden, to honor Him as CREATOR
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Exodus 2:8,10,11
* We keep the Sabbath also spiritually, for His work of delivering us from our spiritual "Egypt" which began the night in Gethsemane---as we rest in His grace as Redeemer
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work...
And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.
Deuteronomy 5:14,15
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: And God rested on the seventh day from all His works; So God’s rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God...again He designates a certain day, saying in David, Today, after such a long time, as it has been said:
“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.”
Do not harden your hearts.”
There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
Hebrews 4:4,6,8-11 KJV/NKJV/NLT/NIV
P.S. - ....as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; Some of his comments are hard to understand, and those who are ignorant and unstable have twisted his letters to mean something quite different, just as they do with other parts of Scripture.
