Jinns 'n Islam

O ye assembly of Jinns and men! If it be ye can pass beyond the zones of the heavens and the earth, pass ye! not without authority shall ye be able to pass!...Reclining on green Cushions and rich Carpets of beauty. Surra 55:33,76
So what are Jinns/Djinns/Gins in Islam?
"The Koran says that God made them with smokeless fire, and like humans, they too have free will.   A djinn is one of the three sentient creatures created by Allah. They can be good or bad, and they have free will, but often there are mischievous Djinns. They were created in a smokeless flame.
The concept of GIN was there in the fertile crescent, which was known as Mesopotemia. This concept is older than Islam."

So it sounds like local paganistic "spirits" which Mohammed borrowed as he wrote the Koran over many years. He was raised in a village of pagans, Christians & Jews and borrowed heavily from all three groups.

"A djinn is one of the three sentient creatures created by Allah. They can be good or bad, and they have free will, but often there are mischievous Djinns. They were created in a smokeless flame. The word genie in English is derived from Latin genius, meant a sort of tutelary or guardian spirit thought to be assigned to each person at their birth. However, for some, a jinni is considered a being greater than an angel because it possesses free will unlike angels, who have no free will but simply carried out God's biddings. As evidence, Iblis was made the head of the angels before Adam's creation but fallen into disgrace when he refused to bow to Adam out of pride upon God's request. Here, the fact that a jinni can lead the angels proved its superiority over them but is considered lesser than human because both jinni and angels were supposed to bow to Adam, the human. Humans have both free will and knowledge (capacity to learn) that set them above the jinn (who have only free will but no knowledge) and angels (who don't have both free will and knowledge)." HUH?
I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
