While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. Luke 9:34
And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. Mark 9:7
And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. Matthew 17:6
And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves. Mark 9:8
And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead. Matthew 17:9
Here, at the Transfiguartion-Moses represents to us those who have
tasted of death but will be ressurected at the end. ( For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a
shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead
in Christ shall rise first: 1 Thessalonians
4:16 ) Moses is the only human to be ressurected to Heaven before Christ-
Yet Michael the archangel, when contending
with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him
a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. Jude
9 Elijah represents
those of us who are alive and remain at the end who will never taste of death. (
Then we which are alive and remain shall be
caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and
so shall we ever be with
the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 4:17 ) For Elijah never died
- And it came to pass, as they still went
on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of
fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into
heaven. 2 Kings 2:11
