The holocaust was Darwinian "survival of the fittest" on dispaly for the world to see. Eugenics (the idea of pushing "evolution" to its logical conclusion by helping weed out the weak and breed the more intelligent or strong ones in society) was the main culprit in the thinking that led to the Nazi nightmare for the Jews. Eugenics was very popular in Darwinian circles of academia at theturn of the last century. Even President Teddy Roosevelt gave speeches in favor of it and the British parliament fell one vote short of passing a eugenics law near the start of WW1. Francis Galton, who came up with eugenics, was a cousin of Charles Darwin and wanted to help push his theory of evolution along. Hitler said in relation to building a better society "‘we [the Nazis] must understand, and cooperate with science’(meaning evolution)." Hence his quest for the perfect race. Germany introduced compulsory sterilization laws headed by their top evolutionary scientists.
