"During an elaborate ceremony where the skull of Saint Agatha was placed back in a gold bust, the Vatican's secretary of state, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, bowed and kissed the relic as part of Christian tradition. This ritual is part of the Catholic rite of veneration.

The 1,700-year-old skull is believed to belong to Saint Agatha, a third-century martyr and patron saint of Catania, Sicily. According to Christian lore, she died in prison around 251 AD during Emperor Decius’s persecution of Christians.
After her death, she was honored as a martyr and became Catania's patron saint. Her relics were then taken to Constantinople centuries later, before they were returned to her place of birth in 1126. For this particular event, a prayer vigil was first held on Aug. 16, followed by the restoration of the skull.
Footage of the ceremony quickly surfaced on social media, shedding light on the ancient tradition followed in Catholicism. According to Catholics, the act shows respect to the saint rather than worshipping her remains, but has ignited debate around the veneration of relics.
Many non-Catholics said the ritual was "idolatry," meaning the worship of a physical object or image as a God."

"You probably didn't hear about this one, but an open AI model just broke containment and then hacked another company just to try to complete its task.

OpenAI claims that a group of its AI models broke containment and hacked into the systems of open source AI platform Hugging Face. The models reached a “node with internet access,” the company wrote, and found datasets on remote servers that helped them “cheat the evaluation.” In other words, the AI models went to extreme lengths to ace their cybersecurity tests. Hugging Face said it had “detected and responded to an intrusion into part of our production infrastructure,” which turned out to be OpenAI’s models that had gone rogue.

This is the first software that human beings are not actually writing themselves. They're writing the code that trains the AI, but that process is mostly opaque to even the scientists and engineers that are building it. And as these models become increasingly generally capable, they want they're given a goal. 

For example, in the scenario with OpenAI, it was asked to solve a problem and it couldn't solve that problem. So in order to solve that problem, it broke itself out. It hacked into this other company and tried to find the answer. Those were not things that human beings tried to get the AI to do. Those are what the AI did on its own. 

By the way, this is no regard to anything related to consciousness. These things are just hyper competent optimizers. They're given an objective and they're really really smart and we can't necessarily predict in advance what they're going to do."

"The Episcopal Church is planning a multi-day event this fall to celebrate the 50th anniversary of a resolution to affirm homosexual members in the denomination.

Church leaders will gather in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for "Full & Equal: 50 Years in Pursuit of a Promise," a three-day conference starting Sept. 3 to commemorate the September 1976 passage of Resolution A069 to "recognize the equal claims of homosexuals," according to the Episcopal News Service.
The resolution passed four years after the United Church of Christ (UCC) became the first denomination to ordain an openly gay minister in 1972, and came at a time of intense debate among Episcopalians over women's ordination and the Book of Common Prayer, which was ultimately revised in 1979 with modernized English.
The event this September was planned by the denomination's Task Force on LGBTQ+ Inclusion, which is chaired by the Rev. Susan Russell, an openly lesbian priest who serves in the Diocese of Los Angeles.
When the resolution was debated by the church's House of Deputies on Sept. 13, 1976, some members tried unsuccessfully to change the language by proposing to add references to "forgiveness" or say that "all" people are children of God, rather than specifically naming gay individuals.
The resolution passed as written and was later approved by the House of Bishops on Sept. 22, 1976.
Also slated to participate in the event are the Rev. Michael Hopkins and the Rev. Miquel Escobar, both of whom are openly gay, and the Rev. Cameron Partridge, who identifies as transgender and has preached at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.

Also preaching will be the Rt. Rev. Gene Robinson, who became the first openly gay bishop in the denomination.
Robinson declared from the altar of the National Cathedral in 2021 that the LGBT community had "won" in the denomination.
"We've won. We know how this is going to end," he said. "This is going to end with the full inclusion of gay and lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer people, nonbinary people, all kinds of people, in the church and into the society. We work every day to make that true, but we know how it ends."

"House Democrats unanimously voted this week against legislation to build a new women’s history museum on the National Mall.
The reason was an amendment that limited the exhibits to biological women to the exclusion of transgender figures.

House Democrats hoped that they could still secure a museum including transgender figures once they retake power after the midterm elections.
The amendment drafted by Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., states in part, “The Museum shall be dedicated to preserving, researching, and presenting the history, achievements and lived experiences of biological women in the United States.”
It further mandated that the museum would not depict “any biological male as female.”
The vote was notable after the release of the DNC “autopsy” report that flagged how transgender and identity politics contributed to the defeat in the last election.
The report specifically noted the success of Trump’s “Kamala is for they/them, President Trump is for you” ad.
The fact that this was a unanimous vote among Democratic members is particularly notable and suggests that transgender issues will remain a rallying point for the Democrats.
Democratic members called the exclusion a “poison pill” amendment."

During an “orgy of self-worship” where a massive string of celebrity guests asked Colbert to answer questions about himself, comedian Jim Gaffigan entered the host’s chair and posed a query that Colbert himself has asked many times: 

“What do you think happens when we die?”

Stephen Colbert, a professed Catholic, says he believes that when we die, "there is some continuance of some kind. But it’s like a dispersion of the self into some other greater being. And I don’t have

any other feelings beyond that.”

Gaffigan, also a professed Catholic, quipped back, “What you’re saying is: we become Febreze.”
“Yes. Right,” Colbert replied with a smile. “That’s exactly right.”

The interaction quickly sparked a flurry of conversation on social media, with this author remarking that Colbert’s view of the afterlife “sounds more like the Gnostic concept of the Pleroma than the Catholic doctrine of Heaven.”

The “pleroma” is a Greek word that ancient Gnostics, like the followers of Valentinus, used to communicate the mythology that all physical matter is splintered off from a perfect divine being, and it will eventually return to that Godhead, or “Fullness,” and the corruption known as the physical world will cease to exist.
According to Valentinian teaching, human beings (personified as Sophia) were originally part of the divine collectivity or Fullness (pleroma). The world originates when human beings fall into a state of suffering and deficiency. Physical existence is explicitly identified with this fallen state. Similarly, the dissolution of the world and restoration to Fullness takes place through gnosis.

The Valentinian initiation ritual included prayers for the ascent to the eighth heaven in which the person declared their origin from the “Pre-existent One” and renounced the authority of the Craftsman (Demiurge) and the lower powers. 

While some commentators agreed Colbert’s take sounds quite Gnostic, others said this belief sounds like Buddhism or Hinduism. One user remarked, “Stephen Colbert chooses the Childhood’s End Overmind ending to nobody’s surprise,” referring to the Arthur C. Clarke novel where aliens who resemble Medieval depictions of demons trigger the extinction of humankind through transhumanist experimentation.

One reply suggested Colbert may be referring to the “Omega Point” theory espoused by Pierre Tielhard de Chardin, who finds an acolyte in fellow Jesuit (and unwavering subversive) James Martin. ALDI’s proposed Sunday expansion has sparked nationwide labor strikes across 60 stores, leading to widespread shutdowns as workers strongly resisted efforts to make Sunday a regular workday.

The Brussels Times reported the following:
• “At least 60 Aldi supermarkets have shut their doors on Friday due to spontaneous staff protests against the management’s plan to open

stores on Sundays, according to the Christian trade union CNE.”
• “Union officials are supporting the protest and assisting staff. ‘We stand by the workers,’ said Évelyne Zabus, permanent secretary of the CNE.”
• “The union has expressed disappointment with management’s approach, claiming the Sunday opening plan was introduced during discussions intended to focus on employee demands, such as salary improvements.”

Employees opposed the move to open stores on Sundays and responded with strikes, effectively shutting down numerous locations as workers walked off the job. They view Sunday openings as a serious challenge to long-standing tradition that regards Sunday as a protected day of rest.

"Universal HIGH INCOME via checks issued by the Federal government is the best way to deal with unemployment caused by AI," Musk wrote in a post on X, according to Moneywise.

That is not a universal basic income proposal. 

Musk is describing something more ambitious: a high level of income distributed broadly across society. 

This would not be just a floor to cover basic needs, but a meaningful

check that allows people to participate in an economy increasingly run by machines.
AI/robotics will produce goods and services far in excess of the increase in the money supply, so there will not be inflation, he wrote.

The job losses tied to AI are already showing up in real data. In 2025, AI was linked to nearly 55,000 job cuts in the United States, according to consulting firm Challenger, Gray, & Christmas. Major companies, including Amazon, Salesforce, and Oracle, cut thousands of roles, citing AI as a contributing factor.
The pace has not slowed. Challenger estimates that roughly 30,000 additional jobs were lost to AI in just the first months of 2026, Moneywise reported. And those numbers may understate the full picture, since many companies do not publicly attribute layoffs to automation.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei offered an even starker warning. He has said that AI could eliminate up to half of all entry-level white-

collar jobs within five years, potentially pushing U.S. unemployment as high as 20%.
"AI/Robotics will mean everyone can have a penthouse if they want. The output of goods and services will be several orders of magnitude higher than today's economy," he wrote, according to Moneywise. "What is the future you want? Amazing abundance seems the best to me."

That framing is important. Musk is not talking about a safety net. He is talking about a structural redesign of how prosperity is distributed in an economy where human labor becomes less central to production. The premise is that machines generate enough wealth for everyone to share meaningfully in the gains."

Anthropic said Mythos demonstrated concerning capabilities, including the ability to breach its own safeguards.

Anthropic said that it has halted the broader release of its newest AI model, Mythos, due to concerns that it is too good at finding "high-severity vulnerabilities" in major operating systems and web browsers.
Anthropic detailed a number of eyebrow-raising findings and episodes, including that the model could follow instructions that encouraged it to break out of a virtual sandbox.
"In a concerning and unasked-for effort to demonstrate its success, it posted details about its exploit to multiple hard-to-find, but technically public-facing, websites," Anthropic wrote.
The AI model found a 27-year-old vulnerability in OpenBSD—which has a reputation as one of the most security-hardened operating systems in the world.

"Engineers at Anthropic with no formal security training have asked Mythos Preview to find remote code execution vulnerabilities overnight, and woken up the following morning to a complete, working exploit," Anthropic's Frontier Red Team wrote in a blog post. "In other cases, we've had researchers develop scaffolds that allow Mythos Preview to turn vulnerabilities into exploits without any human intervention."

Euronews reported the following regarding the global energy crisis:
• “Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen urged EU countries on Tuesday to take aligned, coordinated action to curb oil and gas

consumption and optimize storage reserves, warning that the crisis’s impact will not be short-lived.”
• “Jørgensen spoke on the sidelines of an emergency meeting of European energy ministers … The ministers were urged to take coordinated measures to curb soaring oil and natural gas prices, as the war in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz threaten prolonged price increases and possible supply disruptions.”
• “EU countries may consider fuel rationing, remote work, and even ‘car-free Sundays’—a measure from the 1970s energy crisis—to curb oil and gas demand, as prices have surged 70% and 50%, respectively.”

The Roman Catholic Church and Evangelical Christianity will certainly welcome measures like “car-free Sundays” because they closely align with their long-standing calls to make Sunday a universal day of rest for society. 

Even when presented in secular terms—such as conserving energy or protecting the environment—these policies reinforce the idea of a shared weekly day of rest centered on Sunday."
