"Throughout the New Testament the seventh day of the week is called the Sabbath, and the first day of the week is known only by that

designation. 

Q: What does that signify? 

A: It means that those are the titles that the Holy Spirit designs that those days shall bear throughout all time. 

The Bible is the word of God, and when God gives a name to a thing, it means that the thing is just what He names it. So the seventh day is the Sabbath, and so it will always be, no matter what men may do."

Creation Moment 7/3/2024 - Proton Pumps

"The properties of the transition metals are also uniquely fit for their participation in the electron transport chain, which is crucial to the process of cellular respiration. 

Briefly, the electron transport chain involves the flow of electrons through a respiratory chain. 

Electrons pass through three protein complexes that are embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane: 

NADH-Q oxidoreductase (Complex I); 

Q-cytochrome c oxidoreductase (Complex III); 

and cytochrome c oxidase (Complex IV). 

Complex I, a large multi-subunit protein, is the enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of electrons from the reducing agent (electron donor) NADH to coenzyme Q. 

The electrons are relayed to cytochrome c at Complex III, and Complex IV transfers the electrons to oxygen, which is thus reduced to water. 

Complexes I, III, and IV serve as proton pumps, using the energy from electron transfer to transport protons from the matrix into the intermembrane space. 

The complexes utilize the energy given up by the flow of electrons. The inner mitochondrial membrane is impermeable to protons, leading to their accumulation in the intermembrane space.

Like water behind a dam, this build-up of protons stores potential energy. A chemical turbine called ATP synthase then facilitates the flow of protons down their concentration gradient from the inner membrane space to the matrix, using the energy released in the process to create ATP. 

Essential to this process is a unique property of the transition metal atoms, namely, their possessing different redox potentials — that is, their ability to accommodate varying numbers of electrons in their outermost shells. 

The extent to which the outer shell is full of electrons will determine the atom’s affinity for electrons (with a less full outer shell having a stronger affinity for electrons than one that is fuller). Furthermore, the redox potential (that is, the affinity for electrons) of the transition metals “can be fine-tuned by appropriate choice of ligands to encompass almost the entire biologically significant range of redox potentials.” 

This makes it possible to organize a chain of transition metal atoms, each with an increasing redox potential, in order for electrons to be drawn from one metal atom to the next in a series of discrete ordered steps. 

No other atoms, besides the transition metal atoms, have the properties needed to undertake this task. It is also noteworthy that no alternative mechanism has ever been employed in any known lifeform to generate the large quantities of ATP needed to sustain life."

"The eugenicists’ arrogant certainty that, because they had inherited money and power, they were genetically superior to the rest of the human race, found in Charles Darwin’s theories an ideal pretext and a program: to take the survival of the fittest and make it happen faster, by stopping the “unfit” from breeding. 

The goal, in Margaret Sanger’s own words, was “More Children from the Fit, Fewer from the Unfit.” Instead of seeing the poor as victims of injustice or targets for Christian charity, the materialism these elitists took from Darwin assured them that the poor were themselves the problem — that they were inferior, deficient and dangerous down to the marrow of their bones.

The targets of this campaign in America were poor people, the unemployed, non-English-speaking immigrants, but most of all African-Americans. This vulnerable population, composed largely of ex-slaves and their children, was identified in the 1880s as a “threat” to the “racial health” and progress of the United States, by followers of Francis Galton — first cousin of Charles Darwin, heir to a slave-trading fortune, and inventor of the “science” of eugenics. These people had been exploited for centuries as free labor, denied education for fear of fomenting rebellion, and excluded from most of the economy. Now the eugenicists blamed the victims, black Americans, for their desperate social conditions, claiming that they were the natural result of blacks’ “defective germ plasm."

The Gospels are no Peter Pan story

"J. M. Barrie wrote the fictional story of Peter Pan, for example, he

set the account in late Victorian London. A thousand years from now, archaeologists will certainly find archaeological evidence confirming the existence of London and may even find ancient accounts of other writers describing the Peter Pan story. But the archaeological or manuscript support confirming a portion of Pan’s story would not guarantee the authenticity of the entire account. The true existence of London does not corroborate the true existence of Peter, Wendy, Tinker Bell or the Lost Boys.

The Authors of the Gospels Claimed to Be Eyewitnesses

There is a difference between the authors of the Gospels and J. M. Barrie, the author of Peter Pan. 

Barrie never wrote his story as a true claim about history from the perspective of an eyewitness. Instead, he first introduced the

character of Peter Pan in a small section of The Little White Bird, a 1902 novel. He later adapted the character into a stage play for children and eventually the character appeared in a separate publication. All the while, Barrie never claimed to be writing true history as an eyewitness. 

The authors of the Gospels, on the other hand, repeatedly identified themselves as eyewitnesses:

For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

1 John 1:1,3

What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life… we proclaim to you also.

John 21:24-25

This is the disciple who is testifying to these things and wrote these things, and we know that his testimony is true. And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.

The Authors of the Gospels Can Be Tested As Eyewitnesses
In the end, the authors themselves must be tested for their reliability. There is a four-part template we use to test eyewitnesses in any criminal trial or investigation. If we can determine a witness was actually present to see what they reported, can be corroborated by some form of external evidence, has been honest and accurate over time, and has no ulterior motive or bias to tell a lie, we can consider the witness to be reliable. 

If we apply this four part template to J. M. Barrie, he is quickly exposed as an author of fiction (this shouldn’t surprise us given the fact he never claimed to be an eyewitness). When we apply this investigative template to the authors of the Gospels, however, they survive remarkably as reliable witnesses, especially when compared to other accurate historians of antiquity.

The Authors of the Gospels Died As Eyewitnesses
J. M. Barrie and his publishers profited from the story of Peter Pan in a number of ways. The authors of the Gospels were not as fortunate. In fact, the eyewitnesses of the life of Jesus died for their claims

without ever recanting their testimony. They suffered persecution for these accounts, and although there is evidence second generation Christians were tortured and forced to recant (as described in Pliny the Younger’s letter to Emperor Trajan), there is absolutely no evidence the original eyewitnesses ever recanted in such a way. On the contrary, there are numerous accounts describing the martyrdom of the eyewitnesses. These authors never enjoyed the success of a stage play or successful publication. Instead, they suffered for their claims, yet held firm to their accounts in spite of the tremendous pressure to change their testimony.

The case for the reliability of the Gospels is built on far more than simple archaeological support. It is built instead on the cumulative case for the reliability of the gospel eyewitnesses. 

The archeological evidence is one small part of this collective case. The story of Peter Pan is a fictional claim, 

the story of Jesus is an historical claim."

Freely Ashley of the outlet ThePublica acknowledged on the social media platform X that she had encountered a situation that had changed her mind and her heart.
Ashley explained a bit more about her feelings about God after coming across Him.
“I believe in God. This is very new. And scary,” she wrote. “Why is it scary? I’ve denied the existence of God since I could remember.”
“I’m not labeling myself as anything right now. I’m wearing the cross to remind myself there’s always an audience (God) and to act accordingly. I put it on about a month ago."

"China is being rocked by a series of shocking murders of little girls committed by boys as young as 12.
But, nearly as shocking is how the communist nation deals with juvenile killers — usually letting them go without jail time.

As China struggles to answer how to hold children accountable for heinous killings, the most notorious of which are committed against other kids, it’s often the parents of the victims who find themselves waiting for justice that might never come.

Gong Junli, whose 8-year-old daughter was brutally stabbed to death by a 13-year-old boy, is among the latest heartbroken parents waiting to see if the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) will sentence his child’s killer to prison.
--The boy then stabbed her multiple times and abandoned her body in a grove of poplar trees, officials said.
--Investigators noted that the 13-year-old allegedly prepared knives, blades, disposable gloves, plastic ropes and other tools for the murder, placing them in the woods where he invited the victim to play.
--Officials said the teen showed no remorse for the crime and spoke nonchalantly when questioned by police.

Junli’s surveillance camera captured the moment the young girl was lured away by the teenager, who had come to ask her to join him in the woods twice before.
--The grieving father told Red Star that the teenager had allegedly developed a hatred for women after being beaten and scolded by his mother, and had planned to kill her and female classmates with good grades before choosing the 8-year-old as his first victim.

Junli’s case is similar to one from last year, where a 4-year-old girl was killed by a boy under 12 years old who pushed her into a manure tank just 300 yards from her home in Hubei.
The SPC recently announced that it had handed down sentences against 12,000 minors in the first three months of 2024.

The court also acknowledged that it sentenced four minors aged between 12 and 14 to 10 to 15 years in prison in April, but did not say what their crimes were.
Along with the sentence, the court issued new guidelines on preventing juvenile crime, where it suggested that courts could hold parents and guardians responsible for their children’s actions."

Strickland of Claremont United Church of Christ sought to call attention to women in the bible by heaping praise on the Hebrew midwives Shiphrah and Puah, and how their struggle to protect bodily autonomy is analogous to efforts today.
“I’ll start off with the bad news. The bad news is that “reproductive rights,” as it turns out, have been under attack since 1500BCE. The good news, I think, is that even in the midst of mind blowing tomfoolery, women of all ages have been around to save the day.”
Strickland says that the midwives exhibited “bravery and courage to tell such a bold lie to such power” by lying about "why we’re not killing the Jewish babies,” doing what they could to “subvert the system” and ultimately use “Pharaoh’s own racist and prejudice beliefs about the Hebrews” against him.
Strickland praises Moses mother, sister, and Pharoah daughter for all conspiring against Pharoah and his desire to dictate to the women when they can and can’t have babies, and the praises deceased former US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, one of the most vociferous defenders of abortion and “reproductive rights” the country has ever known, by concluding: "We must never forget that the women who have gone before us have paved the way for more equality and more freedom for all of us today. They found ways to subvert the system in order to improve life.
I also hope we all have appreciation for the more recent saints who have gone before us like Ruth Bader Ginsburg. And I hope that you find the same spirit of bravery and faith, and you can figure out how you will subvert the system, in your specific context, in your own special way."
