James was fighting against those in the Church who claimed they were saved by Faith therefore they need not do any works (Antinomianism) and Paul was fighting against those who claimed to do the works in place of faith through GRACE (Legalism).
We are Saved by GRACE THROUGH FAITH -- a FAITH that works -- and if NO WORKS then NO REAL FAITH.
