One of the so-called "Church Fathers", Tertullian, would call the pagan philosophers of his day the Patriarchs of the Heretics. He claimed heresy came from the influence of the pagan philosophy.
He may have a point. We see this today, the theologians degenerate into weird things & ideas based on studying the philosophies of the world around them. Or pastors who bring in heresies by trying to be PC like the world around them.....
