Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin...
Isaiah 30:1
"On August 25, 2022, the Daily News Hungary
published an article titled, “Will Sunday shop closures be reintroduced
in Hungary?” The article argued that a full Sunday shutdown for business
operations would now be necessary, citing skyrocketing power and gas
prices. As a result, all businesses would have to close completely on
Sundays. The report said:
“Zoltán Karsai, President of the Trade Union of Commercial Employees says, it is a huge cost-saving opportunity for a commercial enterprise if it has to cool or heat a store half a day less a week, or even light it at all. This is why, with the current energy prices, it is worth renegotiating the issue of closing shops on Sundays … The expert emphasized that the skyrocketing electricity and gas prices would now justify a full Sunday closure. However, for now, the target for commercial enterprises is to close at noon on the seventh day of the week (Sunday)”
In addition to the energy crisis, the second reason given for full Sunday closures was labor shortages:
“Another important issue to consider is the scheduling of work. As retail remains one of the sectors most affected by labor shortages, closing shops at noon on Sundays could lead to different weekend shifts and the bonuses received for them.”
The labor union in Hungary is gathering
signatures from employees at various retail locations and is expecting a
“real breakthrough.” They hope to get the “issue of Sunday shop
closure” into the hands of the “decision-makers soon.” The union would
like to see “full Sunday closures” go into effect as early as January 1,
2023." AdventMessenger
