Jeremiah is making allusions to Genesis 1,
employing its motifs to indicate that the judgment he predicts will be
so devastating that it will be like creation is partly undone as well.
Jeremiah portrays the judgment going all the way back to Genesis 1:2, where the earth was formless and empty." CMI
