"On May 22, 2023, the eighth anniversary of the encyclical Laudato Si’,
Pope Francis renewed his call for everyone to dedicate this week,
Laudato Si’ Week, to the environment. The call is mobilizing everyone
together, not just Catholics, to address environmental challenges in
accordance with the Pope’s policies outlined in his climate document.
This means that Laudato Si’ Week will be a global celebration to bring
people together and inspire them to have an ecological conversion.
The conversion Pope Francis is referring to is not the Biblical one, in which a person turns to God through faith and seeks spiritual transformation through the Holy Spirit after sincerely repenting of their sin. No. The conversion that is celebrated during Laudato Si’ Week is an ecological conversion, which refers to a change in attitude towards the environment.
What a totally different commission from the one Christ delivered to us:
“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel
to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;
but he that believeth not shall be damned.” Mark 16:15–16."
