At last Jesus was at rest...... His work completed, His hands folded in peace, He rested through the sacred hours of the Sabbath day.
In the beginning the Father and the Son had rested upon the Sabbath after Their work of creation....With this scene the day upon which Jesus rested is forever linked.
Nicodemus, when he saw Jesus lifted up on the cross, remembered His words spoken by night in the Mount of Olives: As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:14, 15. On that Sabbath, when Christ lay in the grave, Nicodemus had opportunity for reflection.
