You are made up of 3 things-
1) Body (the physical)
3) Spirit (breath of life)
When your body dies-your soul dies. Your spirit (breath) returns to the God who gave it.
At the resurrection you are promised a new body. You obviously will be given a spirit (breath of life). But you are NOT promised a new "soul"...why? because it is your old soul that is resurrected-your character, thoughts, memories, etc..... for if it wasn't-what purpose would it serve to even be resurrected if YOU don't actually exist again?

All the while my breath is in me,
and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;
