ARCHAEOLOGY: Edom

"This story is one that has been repeated time and again throughout more than a century of excavations in the Holy Land. It involves a tendency to make claims based upon incomplete evidence and fails to account for the principle that absence of evidence does not equal evidence of absence.

“Minimalists” have become famous (or infamous!) for just this reason, namely, for their skepticism toward the Biblical narrative, often despite the discovery of archaeological evidence corroborating those accounts.
One point of controversy begins with the rather laconic statement in Genesis 36:31 concerning the Kingdom of Edom, whose kings reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the sons of Israel. This did not attract much notice until surveys and excavations in modern Jordan began to tell a different story, one apparently at odds with the Biblical text. If this Biblical statement were true, then the kings of Edom would have necessarily antedated Saul, Israel’s first king, who ruled in the 11th century BC. The problem herein lay with the fact that no excavated site produced material consistent with state formation in the area formerly known as Edom.
These broad conclusive statements were not limited to Bible encyclopedias. None other than Israel Finkelstein of Tel Aviv University contends in his recent book The Bible Unearthed (2001; co-authored with Neil Silberman) that archaeology has made it clear there were no real kings and no state in Edom before the eighth century BC because earlier large settlements and fortresses were lacking. Notice Finkelstein’s reliance on negative (absence of) evidence in arriving at his conclusion.
Recent discoveries in the Wadi Faynan, however, have now turned the consensus concerning state formation in Edom upside down.
Here a 24-acre site is being excavated that includes numerous mounds of slag, evidence of a large-scale industry that persisted for several centuries, presumably under Edomite supervision.
Four room house at the Edomite site of Kh. En-Nahas dating as early as the 13th century BC. This and other findings at Kh. En-Nahas demonstrate that Edom was an organized political entity prior to the formation of the United Monarch of Israel...Most of the pottery can be dated to the early Iron Age II period (tenth–ninth century). There are also forms indicative of earlier periods, including locally made hole-mouth jars known as Negebite Ware. A number of imported pieces include Midianite Ware and Cypro Phoenician Black-on-Red Ware, the former of which was produced as early as the 14th century.

Not all the sites in Edom had or have been subjected to excavation. It underlines the need to temper the conclusions drawn from the absence of archaeological data, particularly in an area as little understood as Biblical Edom. With the new findings from Khirbet en-Nahas, we can once again assert that absence of evidence is most definitely not indicative of evidence of absence, wisdom that archaeologists would be well advised to observe in the future." On July 31, a team of British researchers sent a balloon into the stratosphere over England, where it collected samples at an altitude range of 14 miles to 17 miles (22 to 27 kilometers). The balloon's scientific payload returned to Earth toting the cell wall, or frustule, of a type of microscopic algae called a diatom, the scientists report in the Journal of Cosmology.

While bacteria and other tiny lifeforms have been found high above the planet before — storm clouds are teeming with microbes, for example....."Most people will assume that these biological particles must have just drifted up to the stratosphere from Earth, but it is generally accepted that a particle of the size found cannot be lifted from Earth to heights of, for example, 27 km. The only known exception is by a violent volcanic eruption, none of which occurred within three years of the sampling trip," lead author Milton Wainwright.
"In the absence of a mechanism by which large particles like these can be transported to the stratosphere, we can only conclude that the biological entities originated from space," Wainwright added. "U.S.-based ministry Joni and Friends is sending its interns to Uganda so they will become better advocates for people with disabilities.

The special needs of children with disabilities are often ignored in developing countries. They are the discards of society.

It is a sad reality that college student Katie Dickey wants to change with her own story of hope, courage, and determination.

Dickey, an Arizona State University undergrad, suffers from spinal muscular atrophy. But that hasn't

kept her from competing in wheelchair soccer or working on a college degree.

And it didn't keep her from going to rural Uganda. Dickey traveled to Africa with a small group of interns organized by the Joni and Friends ministry

"When the children see me in a wheel chair, see me, even though we look different, we have the same way to get around. And I truly believe that God has opened up so many doors for me to connect with these children on a heart level," Dickey said.

The team connected with more than 100 children at a special needs school in Uganda's capital, Kampala. They encouraged, taught, and worked with children in the classroom." CBNnews

Q: Why does the so-called "holy father" in Rome, seem to not be able to do both? To hold to what he believes is the correct "dogma" & at the same time serve the marginalized? Should be able to do both equally....didn't Christ do both? He never wavered on His "dogma" and he served the marginalized.
Q:Why does the so-called "holy father" in Rome, seem to think that by lowering his church's moral standards that somehow this is reaching out to the marginalized? Shouldn't he be trying to raise the standards of the "marginalized" & anyone else?
Q:When the so-called "holy father" in Rome uses words like "inclusive church", & “home for all”, does the pontiff think heaven will be the same? Or will heaven be filled with sinners who turned to God, changed their ways and followed God's word, including on morals?

"The onset of pregnancy presents an apparent contradiction. Ovulating and initially pregnant mothers experience an increase in progesterone. On the one hand, this hormone signals the immune system to back down and lay low. That's critical, because otherwise her body would fight and kill sperm cells as though they were unwelcome invaders, and she would never become pregnant.

But on the other hand, progesterone reduces cholesterol levels in her body. Too much progesterone would doom a developing baby, who requires cholesterol. Why would one action both promote and prevent a single outcome?
Publishing in the June 2013 issue of The Quarterly Review of Biology, the authors first noted that many infections, caused by both viruses and bacteria, either depend on or are enhanced by cholesterol-containing "lipid rafts" embedded on cell membranes. The invaders link to the lipids, using them as doors to access and infect cells, causing disease.
Normally, a woman's immune system provides plenty of protection from such potential pathogens, but when her progesterone levels rise, her immune system diminishes, making her more susceptible to disease (while making her susceptible to pregnancy).
By decreasing cholesterol levels at the same time as decreasing immune response, her body shrinks the number of doors available to potential invaders—and she and her baby remain protected. Early in the first trimester, the baby is so small that its greatest need is for a healthy mother. Later during pregnancy, progesterone levels drop, and this enables both the mother's immune system and her tiny baby's required supply of cholesterol to ramp up at the perfect pace.

Pippa Evans and Sanderson Jones, founders of the church, will head to 22 locations around the globe for a “missionary” tour, attempting to launch new atheist houses of worship in each city they visit. Their efforts will extend from October through November of this year.

Strife kindled today includes bringing into the Church & dividing it with women ordination, the non-sense of homosexuality, trashing of the Sanctuary Doctrine, the division of congregations into 2 Sabbath morning services based upon music styles, the utter non-sense of attempting to bring evolution into the Church, etc.......



Stick with the "Light Bread"

delay the onset of aging, thereby extending youth and adding those spritely years onto one’s life span. The researchers developed mice that expressed higher than normal levels of Sirt1 in their brain and observed a significant extension in the animals’ life spans. In particular, the team found that Sirt1 plays a critical role in protecting against age-related declines in skeletal muscle, physical activity, body temperature, oxygen consumption and quality of sleep. Disease onset in mice induced to contract cancer was also delayed.
The finding could help researchers better understand how to extend the life span of other mammals, including humans.
 Chlorophyll (literally, 'leaf green') is also a protein extending youth - with its unique solar-energy molecular structure - and it is also the primary source of omega 3, the supreme 'light oil' for our brain; food for thought!

Imagine what must have been in the fruit of the tree of life which continued to extend the life of its eater. Was it something similar to Sirt1? Or Something which renewed the telomere length of the cell?
 

IN the NEWS - Isaiah 17 & Syria? Nah....

Recently there has been several news reports of Isaiah 17 & Syria. It is claimed that Isaiah is referring to the current situation in Damascus, and that it will be destroyed. But is it referring to modern day Damascus & its current situation it finds itself in? I don't think so---here is why....

Let us look for a moment at the core verses involved which get the most attention----

The burden of Damascus.

Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.

It may be a dual prophecy-something for literal Damascus for that time and a future interpretation

I believe there are only 2 cities in prophecy which represent the 2 sides on earth (like 2 women in prophecy-Jerusalem & Babylon). In Isaiah sometimes Assyria to the north was used to represent the same thing as Babylon in prophecy. (In Isaiah's day Assyria ruled Babylon still). I believe Damascus northward in Syria represents the same thing as the city of Babylon.

 

So what we have here is as follows:

A: Damascus=spiritual Babylon

B: Ephraim=God's people patiently awaiting His return

C: A "remnant" from out of Syria. Remember in Revelation where He calls out of Babylon those to join His remnant in spiritual Israel? Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. Revelation 18:4

D: What other "city" is left in a ruinous heap? Spiritual Babylon.......

 

Finally, to make the point, this prophecy is also referring to the "harvest", which of course takes place in the end times.... And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; Isaiah 17:5

SUMMARY:

Is this prophecy of Isaiah 17 dealing with the current, literal, situation in Damascus here in the year 2013 as reported in some press accounts? NO.........

IN the NEWS - Poll on Syria & Bible

"A recent survey has shown that nearly
one in three Americans believe that Syria's ongoing civil war is part of the Bible's plan for the end times.
One in four believe that a possible U.S. attack on Syria could lead to the Battle of Armageddon.
And one in five believe the world will end in their lifetime.

Amid an increasing number of stories in the media on the linking of the Syrian crisis to biblical prophecy, Nashville-based LifeWay Research asked three questions about Syria and the end of the world as part of a telephone survey of 1,001 Americans between Sept. 6 and 10.

The survey found that 32 percent of those polled agree with the statement, "I believe the battles in Syria are all part of the prophecies of the Book of Revelation."
Forty-nine percent disagree.

The study also found that 26 percent agree with the statement, "I believe that U.S. military intervention in Syria might lead to the Battle of Armageddon that's spoken about in the Book of

Revelation."
And 18 percent agreed to the statement, "I believe the world will end in my lifetime."

LifeWay Research president Ed Stetzer was surprised with the results.
U.S. military actions against Afghanistan and Bosnia didn't get the same reaction, he said, adding that Syria's geographical proximity to Israel and its mention in the Bible could be a reason behind the linking of Syrian conflict to the end times.
"Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city and will become a heap of ruins," reads Isaiah 17:1, which some Christians see coming to pass. Some interpret the last verses of Isaiah 17 as envisioning Armageddon.

The LifeWay study showed that women (36 percent) are more likely than men (28 percent) to link current events in Syria to the Bible.
Those in the South (40 percent) and with household incomes under $25,000 (41 percent) are more likely to believe that Syria's conflict is fulfilment of biblical prophecy. However, those in the Northeast (24 percent) or with incomes over $75,000 (20 percent) are more skeptical, the study said.
Those who attend worship once or twice a month are also more likely to connect Syria's war to the book of Revelation (51 percent agree), as are evangelical, born again, and fundamentalist Christians (58 percent agree), LifeWay said.

Interestingly, younger Americans – those 18 to 29 – (24 percent) are more likely to think the world

would end in their lifetime, as opposed to those over 65 (15 percent).

Dr. Charlie Dyer, professor at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, recently told Chicago Sun-Times that Damascus was destroyed in the 7th and 8th centuries. "Isaiah 17 predicted the destruction of the city, along with the destruction of the northern kingdom of Israel…Damascus was captured by Assyrians in 732 BC and the northern kingdom of Israel fell when the capital city of Samaria was captured by the Assyrians in 722 BC."

And 100 years later, the prophet Jeremiah also predicted the fall of Damascus, which had been rebuilt, Dyer added. "His message was fulfilled when the city was captured by Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon." TheChristianPost

What was the Heresy of Docetism?

"Docetism is derived from the Greek dokeo, “to seem.” It is the erroneous belief that Christ only seemed to be human, that He did not really have a body of human flesh. It denied the Incarnation; Christ did not really have Mary as His mother according to the flesh. It was one of the first theological errors to appear in church history....

The first known advocate of docetism was Cerinthus (circa 85 AD). He held that Jesus differed from other men only in that He was better and wiser than they, and that the divine Christ descended upon Him at the baptism and left Him at the cross.
The effect of this reasoning was to make the incarnation an illusion. Either there was no human Jesus at all, but only an apparition, or else the real Son of God was simply using the human Jesus as a vehicle of expression, but was not in real union with him.
Marcion (late second century) was willing to concede the reality of the suffering of Christ, but not the reality of His birth. In his version of Luke’s Gospel he made Christ to simply appear in the reign of Tiberius, by which we understand that He descended from heaven.
Docetism stemmed from the view that flesh and physical matter were evil, or the source of evil. Therefore the Saviour could have had no contact with it. All Gnostics, which plagued the early Church, were Docetic.
