Creation Moment 7/27/2026 - Glutamine synthetase (GS): Your microscopic factory in your cells

Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Psalm 139:14 NLT

"
Glutamine synthetase (GS) is like a microscopic factory in your cells

Enzymes are biological machines, almost always proteins, that cause important reactions in living things to happen that otherwise
wouldn’t, or at least way too slowly to be useful. The enzyme
GS plays a crucial role in producing the amino acid glutamine an essential building block for vital biomolecules such as proteins and nucleotides, among others (nucleotides are the building blocks for RNA and DNA). Glutamine (symbol Gln or Q) is the most common amino acid in the human body.
GS
is also essential for nitrogen metabolism, both in its role making glutamine and in other ways. GS is found in all life forms.

Without GS, life as we know it wouldn’t exist!

Complex structure: GS is typically composed of 12 identical subunits arranged in two hexagonal rings, stacked on top of each other.
Multiple inputs: It processes various signals, including the cell’s nitrogen levels, energy status, and the presence of inhibitors or activators of its own activity.
Precise calculations: Based on these inputs, GS ‘decides’ how much glutamine to produce.
Specific output: It manufactures just the right amount of glutamine to meet the cell’s needs.
Feedback regulation: GS can adjust its activity based on the products it creates, much like a self-regulating computer system."
