IN the NEWS - Calls for a "Secular Sabbath"

"Psychology Today is a secular monthly magazine that is dedicated to human psychology and behavior and contains articles written by leading psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, sociologists, and science journalists. On October 6, 2022, Psychology Today published an article written by Dr. David Roger Clawson titled: “Resilience, the Sabbath, and the Planet.” In the article, the following question is raised:

• “With so much suffering and so many tragedies in the world today—war, hurricanes, floods, fires, homelessness, homicides, suicides, overdoses— there is much talk of resilience and the need to be resilient. But what does resilience really mean?” 

Q: So, what is the solution to our planet’s man-made and natural disasters, according to Psychology Today magazine? 

A: Their response is to secure a weekly day of rest for humans and the planet, or we will perish. Notice how they proceed to explain the science behind Sabbath rest and saving the world:

• “Ancient tradition, now, unfortunately, largely forgotten in the modern world, may give us some strategies to become more resilient. The ideas of the Sabbath and sabbatical have validity to improve the human condition.” 

• “A Sabbath or a sabbatical need not have a religious connotation. A secular Sabbath is as valid as a religious one.” 

• “As we move towards safety and recovery, so too we move into the other, the needs of the other person and the needs of the natural world around us. As we move the world towards safety and recovery, we build our resilience while we also build the resilience of the other—both people and the planet.”

• “As we give time to ourselves for a Sabbath and sabbatical to build our resilience, we can also give time to our planet for regeneration, rejuvenation, recovery, and resilience.” 

• “As humans can tolerate some threat, the planet can also tolerate some threat if provided with periods of safety, but the planet cannot tolerate chronic sustained threat any more than we can.”

• “During the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic we saw the amazing resilience of our planet from just one month of near-total shutdown of human activity. The shutting down of nonessential activities had a remarkably restorative effect for the planet. What if we disconnected from our cars and technologies, devoted time to rest, nourishment, and connection to both each other and nature for one day each week?”

• “We may not, yet, be ready for these concepts, nor the adjustments to make a better reality. But at some point we will tire of our suffering and perhaps open up to them—or perish. Can we create a cultural contagion, a meme, of a respected secular Sabbath?”

Psychology Today has just outlined the “scientific” reasons why we need a weekly day of rest for both humans and the planet....we can see where this is going.

“The dignitaries of church and State will unite to bribe, persuade, or compel all classes to honor the Sunday. The lack of divine authority will be supplied by oppressive enactments. Political corruption is destroying love of justice and regard for truth; and even in free America, rulers and legislators, in order to secure public favor, will yield to the popular demand for a law enforcing Sunday observance. Liberty of conscience, which has cost so great a sacrifice, will no longer be respected” (Great Controversy, p. 592).

Tragically, with all of the talk about restoring Sabbath rest and making Sunday the preferred day, what is being lost in this discussion is that Sunday, as a holy day, is solely dependent on the authority of the Catholic Church. There is no indication in the Bible that the weekly day of rest has been changed from Saturday to Sunday. Sunday was not honored by Christ, the apostles, or the early apostolic church.

 

This means that our current society is openly and persistently defying God’s commandments and the faith of Jesus, which affirms, “The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God” (Exodus 20:10). 

 

During this controversy, the conflict between the first day, the Sunday of the Papacy, and the seventh day, the Sabbath of the Lord, is on full display. 

Unfortunately, with the expectation of the Remnant people of Revelation 12:17, the entire world has joined the side of rebellion against the “Lord of the Sabbath” (Mark 2:28)."

Creation Moment 11/5/2022 - Point of the Creation

"In Rev. 4:11 we find the basis of God's claim upon his creatures as follows:– "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: 

---for thou hast created all things, 

---and for thy pleasure they are and were created." 

It is because God has created us that he has a right to our service. 

Q: Why should we serve Jehovah, rather than the gods which the
heathen worship? 

A: Because God created us and all things that we enjoy, and they did not. Paul says: "There be gods many and lords many, but to us there is but one God, the father, of whom are all things, and we are in him." 1 Cor. 8:5, 6." E.J. Waggoner

A Fixed Rule

To this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at My word. Isa. lxvi. 2

On the Streets of Babylon: Apologizing for Preaching Against Sin Heard on the Streets

There seems to be "apologies for preaching against sin" on the Streets of Babylon...

 

"A Bishop in Southern Ireland apologized for a priest’s sermon that

slammed the ‘rampant legislation of sin’ as seen in the government’s positions on abortion, transgenderism, and homosexuality.

In a statement, Bishop Ray Browne apologized to “all who were offended,” adding “the views expressed do not represent the Christian position” and the message was not appropriate for a “regular weekend parish Mass.”

Browne’s Monday statement was released to appease parishioners who were outraged by Father Seán Sheehy’s homily delivered to mass-goers in Listowel.

Many walked out during the sermon, prompting Sheehy to bid them farewell mid-message.

“Those of you who happen to be leaving today, God help you is all I have to say.”

Sheehy has since been removed from the town’s mass roster, but is standing by his remarks and even accusing Browne of “muzzling the truth in order to appease people.” IW

Creation Moment 11/4/2022 - Darwin's "horrid doubt"

Drops from the Fountain

His life was laid down for others from the beginning, and was never taken up for His own benefit. 

 

Q: And who are "the brethren" for whom we ought to lay down our lives?

A: The answer is found in those for whom Christ laid down His life. It was while we were enemies that we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son."

SDA Issues - Advent Health no Longer Adventist - but rather "wicked"?

"According to City Surfing Orlando, Advent health is sponsoring the broadway show ‘Wicked ‘on January 25 through February 12 at the Dr. Philips Center. The show glorifies witches, demons and occult darkness. From the promo:

“Wicked,” the Broadway sensation, looks at what happened in the

Land of Oz… but from a different angle. Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another young woman, born with emerald-green skin, who is smart, fiery, misunderstood and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships … until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”

It raises serious questions about the Biblical judgment of the Board of Directors. 

Q:  I mean, who actually thought this was a good idea?"

Creation Moment 11/3/2022 - Fish Fin Logic

SDA Issues - Get U Some Pork on Sabbath

“Pig on the Pond” is an annual festival that takes place at Waterfront

Park in Clermont, Florida. According to the City of Clermont, the Pig on the Pond celebration brings “fun” and “delicious barbecue” to the community.

Adult admission to this event is $5, while child admission is $3.

The three-day pig festival took place on Friday, October 14, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; Saturday, October 15, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.; and Sunday, October 16, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

AdventHealth and the City of Clermont served as the festival’s primary corporate sponsors. 

This is an event to celebrate pork and runs all day on Saturday, during Sabbath hours. The official schedule noted that there would be carnival rides, games, live rock, jazz, and country music, as well as a lot of pork BBQ on the menu, which are all clear violations of God’s Sabbath and dietary laws. Therefore, not only did AdventHealth sponsor a carnival where people could eat pork on the Sabbath, but all the visitors had to pay to do so.

Q: So, how does breaking the Sabbath and eating pork fit into the Seventh-day Adventist church’s mission and message? 

A: They don’t."

Creation Moment 11/2/2022 - If you had a nickle for every time......

"Neo-Darwinism has long theorized that fitter individuals take over a population. Over long ages, the fittest individuals supposedly produced people from primordial soup. Brown and Hullender squarely criticized the capability of this paradigm, saying,

 

Thus, survival of the fittest is illogical when proposed as adequate for selecting the origination of all complex, major, new body-types and metabolic functions because the multiple changes in multiple genomes that are required have intermediate stages without advantage; selection would not reasonably occur, and disadvantage or death would logically prevail.

Fury & Energy of the Flood

"Marine fossils, including sharks, bivalves, and gastropods, are
prevalent throughout the Hell Creek, not just in isolated lenses as many have claimed. 

Patterns of dinosaur occurrences in the uppermost Hell Creek show less dinosaur fossils toward the top of the formation and a 2–3 m gap at the very top that is devoid of dinosaur fossils.

Union Formation, may indicate some dinosaurs survived until the end of the Zuni Megasequence, slightly above the K-Pg. All geological data observed in the Hell Creek Formation are interpreted as occurring during a worldwide Flood event. Stratigraphic data, such as ripples and cross-bedded sandstones, demonstrate water transport. Marine fossils found throughout the formation imply a strong marine influence during deposition of the entire unit.

 

In addition, it is claimed the formation provides the most detailed history of continental biotic changes across the K-Pg (Cretaceous- Paleogene) boundary in the world (Clemens, 2002; Clemens and Hartman, 2014). Yet, the top of the Hell Creek also contains the famous “3 m gap,” where no dinosaur specimens have been dis- covered (Johnson et al., 2002).

The Hell Creek Formation is one of the last deposits of the Zuni mega-sequence across the northern Great Plains region. Megasequences are de- fined as packages of sedimentary rock bounded top and bottom by erosional surfaces, 

--with coarse sandstone layers at the bottom (deposited first), --followed by shales, and then limestone at the top (deposited last) (Sloss, 1963).

 

One of the great secular mysteries of all time concerns the extinction
of dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous System, of which the Hell Creek Formation plays a major part.

Every sandstone unit within the Hell Creek Formation shows evidence of water transport and deposition (Hartman et al., 2014).

 

The Fox Hills Formation directly below the Hell Creek is interpreted as a marine deposit (Hartman, 2002), and the Cannonball Member of the Fort Union Formation above the Hell Creek is thought by secular geologists to be a marine deposit along the eastern side of the Williston Basin. Finally, most geologists admit that the Breien Member, near the base of the Hell Creek in south-central North Dakota, is a marine deposit. 

 

However, the marine influence seen in the Hell Creek Formation is not limited just to North Dakota. Studies in eastern Montana, and even into the equivalent rock units (Lance Formation) in Wyoming, have shown similar results (Archibald, 1996). Other authors have been studying the fauna of the Hell Creek since the 1950s (Lucas, 2007), seeing the same marine and

nonmarine faunal mixing. As Hartman and Kirkland (2002, p. 272) have stated, “Although previously reported, knowledge of the continuation of marine conditions above the Fox Hills Formation is not well or widely known.” The Fox Hills directly underlies the Hell Creek.

 

*After the early stages of the Flood, and after the deposition of the first three megasequences (Sauk, Tippecanoe, and Kaskaskia), the Flood seems to have increased its fury and energy level, depositing nearly two-thirds of its sediment load onto the North American continent. “And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters.
And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered” (Genesis 7:18–19). It was at this point in the Flood, during deposition of the Absaroka and Zuni Megasequences, that the tectonic plates seem to have undergone their most extensive episode of movement and an entirely new ocean crust began to form globally. The new ocean crust would likely have been hotter and less dense than the old, pre-Flood oceanic crust. This would have raised the level of the ocean floor, especially near the ocean ridges, similar to the way hot air causes a balloon to rise (Austin et al., 1994). 

 

First, many marine fossils are found throughout the formation, often

mixed with terrestrial fossils. The extent of these occurrences has been largely ignored by secular scientists.
Second, sedimentary structures indicative of water transport are ubiquitous to the sandstone layers. 

Rippled layers and cross-bedded sandstones demonstrate active transport was occurring during deposition of each sandstone bed. Standard models cannot account

for both the mixed fossil assemblages and the evidence of water transport. 

 

Only a Flood model involving ocean-transported, tsunami-like waves can account for the observed mixing of terrestrial and marine
environments in the Hell Creek." ICR
