Creation Moment 1/23/2014 - Evolutionary Sharkbait

"Elephant shark fossils occur in Ordovician rocks, assigned a conventional age of 450 million years, and in Permian rocks, assigned an age of 260 million years. Elephant sharks are still living today. Supposedly, they have not changed in form for over 300 million years and this makes them a spectacular example of a living fossil.

To say that the elephant shark has evolved slowly because its form has not changed dramatically understates the situation—it has not evolved at all! The study authors wrote, “The factors contributing to the lower evolutionary rate of C. milii are not known.”
Each step in the supposed evolution of vertebrates would require a wholesale restructuring of the ancestor’s anatomy. The Nature authors wrote, “This transition was accompanied by many morphological and phenotypic innovations.”1 But there are no demonstrations of creatures innovating even one new body part, let alone many. Plus, undisputed transitions are still no-shows in the fossil record.
The most significant insights that the elephant shark study revealed are that it simply has not evolved over supposed hundreds of millions of years and that secularists insist on fitting it into an evolutionary narrative despite the evidence." ICR

The "Really" File - (Monk Ale 4 Sale)

....nor drunkards, ....shall inherit the kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 6:10
"For nearly 60 years, the brothers of St. Joseph's Abbey have led a simple life devoted to prayer and preserves, producing a successful line of condiments, such as damson plum jam and port wine jelly, out of their monastery in Spencer, Mass.
But beginning this week, that business will be joined by a new enterprise, one that shares a legacy with the monks' European brothers. Raise a glass to Spencer Trappist Ale, the first certified Trappist beer made by monks in the United States.
"The conversation about brewing a Trappist ale actually began five years ago," a spokesperson for the brewery told ABC News. "There was a brother who had brewed beer in college who was interested in it, and he prompted the discussion."
After some internal debate, the monks decided to pursue the idea, naming Father Isaac Keeley as brewery director. Keeley and another brother then traveled to Europe to sample various beers and gain insight into the production process from their fellow Catholic Cistercian monks, popularly known as Trappists.
There are just eight other Trappist breweries in the world: six in Belgium, one in Holland and another in
From the "Really" File
Austria. In accordance with the International Trappist Association, all beers bearing their label must be brewed within the confines of a monastery, produced in keeping with the practices of a monastic life, and sold for the sole purpose of supporting the maintenance of the monastery.
While overseas, the brothers of St. Joseph's Abbey were advised to build a state-of-the-art brewery, to hire a skilled brew engineer and to focus on a single beer for the first five years in order to ensure quality of product.
Salois said that the response to the beer has been overwhelming, with a considerable number of pre-orders from groceries, bar and restaurant establishments even before many had gotten a taste. The beer is currently only available in Massachusetts, and only in bottles. Kegs will roll out to taverns in mid-February.
"The history and the tradition of being a Trappist beer is pretty special," he said. "If you're a big beer drinker, then you're welcoming this with open arms." ABC

Creation Moment 1/22/2014 - The Liver

Functions of the liver:

"The liver regulates most chemical levels in the blood and excretes a product called bile, which helps carry away waste products from the liver. All the blood leaving the stomach and intestines passes through the liver. The liver processes this blood and breaks down the nutrients and drugs into forms that are easier to use for the rest of the body. More than 500 vital functions have been identified with the liver. Some of the more well-known functions include the following:
  • Production of bile, which helps carry away waste and break down fats in the small intestine during digestion
  • Production of certain proteins for blood plasma
  • Production of cholesterol and special proteins to help carry fats through the body
  • Conversion of excess glucose into glycogen for storage (glycogen can later be converted back to glucose for energy)
  • Regulation of blood levels of amino acids, which form the building blocks of proteins
  • Processing of hemoglobin for use of its iron content (the liver stores iron)
  • Conversion of poisonous ammonia to urea (urea is an end product of protein metabolism and is excreted in the urine)
  • Clearing the blood of drugs and other poisonous substances
  • Regulating blood clotting
  • Resisting infections by producing immune factors and removing bacteria from the bloodstream
When the liver has broken down harmful substances, its by-products are excreted into the bile or blood. Bile by-products enter the intestine and ultimately leave the body in the form of feces. Blood by-products are filtered out by the kidneys, and leave the body in the form of urine." TheOhioStateUniversity-WaxnerMedicalCenter

Soul improvement over self improvement

Instead of TV preachers preaching the prosperity gospel or the fluff of pop-psychology self esteem.....maybe they should try preaching about soul improvement?

IN the NEWS - Rise of Narcissism

For men shall be lovers of their own selves,
covetous,
boasters,
 proud,
disobedient to parents,

unthankful, unholy,
Without natural affection,
2 Timothy 3:2,3

"Why Is Narcissism Increasing Among Young Americans?
Narcissism is a serious social and psychological problem.  The term refers to an inflated view of the self, coupled with relative indifference to others.  People who are high in this trait fail to help others unless there is immediate gain or recognition to themselves for dong so; often think they are above the law and therefore violate it; and readily trample over others in their efforts to rise to the “top,” which is where they think they belong.  A world full of narcissists would be a sad world indeed.  We humans are, by nature, social animals; we absolutely depend upon one another’s good will and care. Narcissism is bad not just for society as a whole, but also for the individual narcissist.
The changes are highly significant statistically and sufficiently large that approximately 70 %
Narcissus, falling in love with his own reflection
of students today score higher on narcissism and lower on empathy than did the average student thirty years ago.
So, most of the speculation has to do with changes in the world in which young people are growing up.
Some of the speculation has centered on the misguided “self-esteem” movement that began to take shape in the 1980s. Parents, teachers, and others involved with children were advised to build up children’s self-esteem through frequent praise.  Many parents, especially, began telling their children how beautiful, smart, and generally wonderful they are, or began bragging about their kids to others in front of them. Television programs for kids featured songs about being “special” and lessons to the effect that “you can be anything you want to be.”  In competitions, everyone got some kind of trophy.  Perhaps some of that actually got incorporated into the thinking of young people growing up in this era. They may to some degree have grown up believing what they were told. To the degree that they did, they would become narcissists, because the things they were told are exactly the kinds of things that narcissists believe about themselves." PsychologyToday

Creation Moment 1/21/2014 - Cosmic Web

"This deep image shows the Nebula (cyan) with a size of 2 million light-years discovered around the quasar UM287. The energetic radiation of the quasar makes the surrounding intergalactic gas glow revealing the physical structure of a cosmic web filament.
For the first time, astronomers were able to see a string of hot gas known as a filament that is thought to be part of the mysterious underlying structure that dictates the layout of all the stars and galaxies in our universe.
Scientists believe that matter in the universe is arranged into a gigantic web-like structure. This is called the cosmic web.
Without some mysterious force pulling visible matter into this web, galaxies would be randomly scattered across the universe. But they aren't.
We can see that galaxies are found in groups and those groups come together in larger clusters.
The gas-filled areas are filament, while the emptier areas are the gaps between filaments and galaxy clusters.....giving us the first picture of extended gas between galaxies." YahooNews

The "Really" File - ("Sainthood" fees?)

Give a silly answer to a silly question,
and the one who asked it will realize that he's not as smart as he thinks.
Proverbs 26:5 GNT
They actually charge a fee for "Sainthood" applications?
"Saint" Joan of Arc...
Who footed her bill for a sainthood application?
Just wondering....
"Vatican City (AFP) - The Vatican has said it is cutting the costs of sainthood applications, which can reportedly spiral up to a million dollars (735,000 euros), in a move that could boost candidatures from the developing world.
Cardinal Angelo Amato, who heads up the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, was quoted by the Vatican's official Osservatore Romano daily on Wednesday as saying the change is aimed at removing "inequality".

Hold on a minute....did he say "inequality" as it relates
to the application process for "sainthood"?..
So now Marxist rhetoric has seeped into
the granting of "sainthood" status?
The class warfare of sainthood selection...? LOL...
Wait, there's more...

From the "Really" File
"Applications for sainthood can take years and costs include legal fees and travel bills for medical experts from around the world who are often called on to verify supposed medical miracles attributed to would-be saints.
The Archdiocese of Indianapolis was cited by the Huffington Post as saying the price of canonisation campaigns range between $250,000 and $1 million -- with a lot of money coming from ordinary parishioners.
The price-tag means bids for candidates from the developing world have until now had less chance of success but the Vatican is now introducing a "fixed tariff" aimed at cutting costs, Osservatore Romano said." YahooNews

IN the NEWS - NFL Prayers....

"Roughly 1-in-5 sports fans (19%) and similar numbers of all Americans (22%) believe that God plays a role in determining the outcomes of sporting events.
Football fans stand out in their belief in the supernatural. Compared to other fans, football fans are more likely to see supernatural forces at work in their favorite sport (55% vs. 44%).

Just ahead of the 2014 Super Bowl, half of sports fans see some aspect of the supernatural at play in sports,
meaning they either pray to God to help their team, have thought their team was cursed at some point in time, or believe that God plays a role in determining the outcome of sporting events.
More than one-quarter (26%) of sports fans report having prayed for God to help their team, while more than 7-in-10 (73%) say they have never done this.
• White evangelical Protestants (38%), white mainline Protestant (33%) and minority Protestant (29%) sports fans are considerably more likely than Catholic (21%) or religiously unaffiliated (15%) fans to say they have prayed for their team.
• Southern (30%) and Midwestern fans (29%) are more likely to report praying to God for help than those fans living in the West (24%) or Northeast (20%).
• Americans who report having prayed to God for their team are much more likely than those who have not to believe God plays a role in determining the outcomes of sporting events (37% vs. 12%)."

Wisdom Lessons from Nature

There be four things which are little upon the earth,
but they are exceeding wise:

The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;

The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;

The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;

The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces.

Creation Moment 1/20/2014 - Evolutionary Bloodstain on the Pages of History

"Those attacking Christianity sometimes point to the many religious wars and atrocities perpetrated in the name of Christ and the Church. They forget that not everyone self-labeled ‘Christian’ truly follows Christ. Also, that many times more people have been killed this century, most by their own governments, than in all religious conflicts, ever. And this slaughter happened because of philosophies openly hostile to biblical Christianity, and flowing directly from evolutionary belief.
Nazism openly proclaimed its dependence on Darwin.    It was right and moral for the strongest race to survive; to have pity for the weak was to defy nature’s laws.
Communism also took evolution to its logical conclusion. If everything just evolved from ‘natural law,’ then man’s opinion, not God’s Word, determines what is right and wrong. If the working class can take power by armed struggle, then this is ‘right,’ regardless of how many must die to bring in the socialist paradise. Communism’s death toll far outranks the Nazis’—probably more than 90 million worldwide.
Some have suggested that the bloodthirsty deeds of Stalin were an ‘aberration’ from the revolution’s ideals. However, it was Lenin, the ‘father’ of the Russian revolution, who ‘perfected the science of mass killings,’ and total, merciless brutality as the ultimate method of political control.
Evolution was the chief tool used to brainwash communism’s masses into ‘scientific atheism.’ If everything just evolved, then everything is at the whim of the most powerful, and there is no Maker to whom to be answerable. Hence Stalin’s belief that killing millions of people was no worse than mowing your lawn (grass is our cousin in evolutionary doctrine).
Mao’s reign of terror and lies resulted in the deaths of tens of millions. It is no coincidence that his two favorite books were by the evolutionists Darwin and Huxley. With millions dying from his forced famine, his physician records that Mao said, ‘We have so many people we can afford to lose a few.’ His successors have since persecuted and killed hundreds of thousands more." Cretion Moment 1/19/2014 - 4 Paradoxes for Evolution

"Susan Mazur, a reporter welcome to new ideas about evolution, interviewed Steve Benner (U of Florida) for the Huffington Post about a Gordon Research Conference he is chairing in January called “Origins of Life.”
She and Benner agree that “the time is calling for more transparency” in the field.
Benner was quite transparent about four hurdles he called “paradoxes” that still challenge theories for getting from chemicals to a Darwinian replicator.  He transparently admitted failure in all four of them:
'We have failed in any continuous way to provide a recipe that gets from the simple molecules that we know were present on early Earth to RNA. There is a discontinuous model which has many pieces, many of which have experimental support, but we’re up against these three or four paradoxes, which you and I have talked about in the past.

The first paradox is the tendency of organic matter to devolve and to give tar.
If you can avoid that, you can start to try to assemble things that are not tarry, but then you encounter the water problem, which is related to the fact that every interesting bond that you want to make is unstable, thermodynamically, with respect to water.
If you can solve that problem, you have the problem of entropy, that any of the building blocks are going to be present in a low concentration; therefore, to assemble a large number of those building blocks, you get a gene-like RNA — 100 nucleotides long — that fights entropy.
And the fourth problem is that even if you can solve the entropy problem, you have a paradox that RNA enzymes, which are maybe catalytically active, are more likely to be active in the sense that destroys RNA rather than creates RNA.'

Benner went on to say that We are finding all sorts of problems in getting behavior that we find useful, let alone Darwinian out of this.”  All he can do is hope that the Gordon Conference will turn up something.  From there, the interview devolved into matters of funding.  “Our group actually sells origins-of-life jewelry,” he quipped.  “The minerals that create the borate and the alkali and the phosphate are minerals like tourmaline and apatite and peridot.”  Hopefully the jewelry was intelligently designed." 3 Phases of the Judgment

3 Phases of the Judgment:
...........for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
Romans 14:10
And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him,
saying, Take away the filthy garments from him.
And unto him he said,
Behold,
I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee,
and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.
Zechariah 3:4

1) Investigative Judgment: This phase (begun at the end of the 2300 days/(years) of Daniel 8:14) is to see who is saved & who is lost. Your record is investigated before the throngs of angels as witnesses. This is Christ in the role of High Priest.
The hosts of heaven judge that God made the right decisions.

A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him:

 thousand thousands ministered unto him,
and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him:
the judgment was set, and the books were opened.

Daniel 7:10
....and at that time thy people shall be delivered,
every one that shall be found written in the book.

And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,
some to everlasting life,
and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Daniel 12:1,2
2) Saints Judgment: This phase the redeemed get to judge the lost for themselves during the millennium. Their questions are answered as to why certain people are not there.
The saints judge that God made the right/fair decisions.
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them,
and judgment was given unto them:

and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus,
and for the word of God,
and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image,
neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands;

and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished.
This is the first resurrection.
Revelation 20:4,5
Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world?
Know ye not that we shall judge angels?
1 Corinthians 6:2,3
3) Wicked Judgment: This last phase, the wicked are raised at the end of the millennium and shown why they are lost.
The wicked judge that God made the right/fair decisions.
And when the thousand years are expired,
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God;

and the books were opened:
and another book was opened,
which is the book of life:
and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books,
according to their works.

The sea gave up its dead,
and death and the grave gave up their dead.
And all were judged according to their deeds.
Revelation 20:7,12,13

For it is written,

As I live, saith the Lord,
every knee shall bow to me,
and every tongue shall confess to God.
Romans 14:11

Dinosaur dioramas don’t display flowers and grasses—supposedly because they had not yet evolved. But it takes only one piece of the right kind of evidence to disprove a whole paradigm. Amazing amber fossils from Burma (now Myanmar) refute the idea that flowers were absent in the supposed Age of Reptiles by showing the abrupt appearance of fully-formed flowers.
Publishing in Journal of the Botanical Research Institute of Texas, three scientists described a cluster of small, possibly rose-like flowers encased in amber assigned an age of 100 million years—well within the timeframe that evolutionists ascribe to dinosaurs.1The petal-less flowers looked unique enough for the researchers to give their plant a new name, Micropetasos burmensis. Nevertheless, the pollen grains adhering to the flower stigma and tiny pollen tubes frozen in their growth down the flower style clearly show that flowers back then were operating just like modern living flowers.

"Genetics and evolution have been enemies from the beginning of both concepts. Gregor Mendel, the father of genetics, and Charles Darwin, the father of
modern evolution, were contemporaries. At the same time that Darwin was claiming that creatures could change into other creatures, Mendel was showing that even individual characteristics remain constant. While Darwin's ideas were based on erroneous and untested ideas about inheritance, Mendel's conclusions were based on careful experimentation. Only by ignoring the total implications of modern genetics has it been possible to maintain the fiction of evolution." AIG
In other words, Mendel discovered micro-evolution, better known today as genetic variety within a kind.
Darwin was dreaming of macro-evolution, what people mean today when they say "evolution", which has never been observed in nature or the lab.

IN the NEWS - Doomsday Clock

"The iconic Doomsday Clock remains poised at five minutes until midnight, the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists announced today (Jan. 14).
The clock is no doomsday device — rather, it's a visual metaphor for the danger of a "civilization-threatening technological catastrophe." Every year, the board analyzes international threats, particularly nuclear arsenals and climate change, and decides where the minute hand on the Doomsday Clock should rest. The closer it is to midnight, the closer the world is to doom.
In 1947, the first Bulletin cover to feature the Doomsday Clock — set at that point at 11:53 p.m.
In January 2012, the Bulletin's board set the minute hand of the clock at 11:55 p.m., one minute closer to midnight than the previous year. The decision was made based on the current state of nuclear arsenals around the globe as well as accidents such as the Fukushima nuclear meltdown that occurred in 2011 after a major earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Biosecurity is also taken into account, with the creation of an airborne strain of H5N1 flu worrying scientists in 2012.
The closest the Doomsday Clock has ever come to midnight was in 1953, when the minute hand ticked to 11:58 p.m. after the first test of the hydrogen bomb. It was at its most optimistic in 1991, when the Bulletin board set the time at 17 minutes to midnight as the Cold War ended." YahooNews
