"But before we can manifest our love to God by deeds, we must know what would please him.
1. If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day; and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honorable; and shall honor him, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking
your own words; Then shall you delight yourself in the Lord; and I will cause you to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father: for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it. (Isaiah 58:13-14)
2. Honor the Lord with your substance, and with the first fruits of all your increase; So shall your barns be filled with plenty, and your presses shall burst out with new wine. (Proverbs 3:9-10)
By these two texts we see that God requires us to devote to him a portion of both our time and our means.

Of our time he requires one-seventh;
of our means one-tenth."
