"The Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue has sent a message to the Buddhists of the world to mark the Feast of Vesakh, which commemorates the his birth, enlightenment and death of
Gautama Buddha.
This year’s Message was inspired by Pope Francis’ Encyclical Laudato si’.
“As the crisis of climate change is contributed to by human activity, we, Christians and Buddhists, must work together to confront it with an ecological spirituality,” writes Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, the President of the Pontifical Council. “The
acceleration of global environmental problems has added to the urgency of interreligious cooperation.”
Cardinal Tauran concludes by calling on Catholics and Buddhists to “cooperate together in liberating humanity from the suffering brought about by climate change, and contribute to the care of our common home.” VaticanRadio
