Studying the charismatic movement----3 waves seem to be observed.
1) The 1st wave at the turn of the last century that led to the formation of the charismatic churches ( such as Pentecostal, Assemblies of God, Church of God in Christ, Church of God subtitled Cleveland Tennessee, etc.) was of the (gibberish) tongues, healing & worship/music styles.
2) The 2nd wave, during the 60's & 70's, swept through the mostly mainline Protestant Churches. Many splinter groups emerged from them which added (gibberish) tongues but held their denominational teaches or were formed within established churches as a sub-group (i.e. charismatic Catholics, charismatic Mormons, etc). This seemed to be of (gibberish) tongues & worship/music styles.
3) The 3rd wave, the 80's-now, seem to be driven by worship/music styles via TV evangelism in many cases, invading the other churches, including our Adventist Churches.
SDA Church - The 1st wave infiltrated within the Adventist denomination during the Holy Flesh movement in my home state of Indiana during 1898-1900. But E.G.W. herself intervened & nipped it in the rear end.
The 2nd wave attempted entrance in the early 70's when a group of SDA youth on the beaches of California met charismatic youth. After the laying on of hands followed by bursting forth into tongues (gibberish) they went back to their SDA college and spread it. But the GC held a meeting in Atlanta, GA & nipped the movement in the rear end.
The 3rd wave has had success entering (& dividing) the Church. This was done by dividing God's people in congregations between "contemporary" services & "traditional" services. Do you really think GOD is dividing HIS people this "late in the game' over something as frivolous as music? Of course not---so who is really the spirit behind the push in local churches to divide their services over muscic/worship styles? Hint, Hint: It isn't God......

Let us search and try our ways,
and turn again to the LORD.
Lamentations 3:40
"The things you have described as taking place in Indiana, the Lord has shown me would take place just before the close of probation. Every uncouth thing will be demonstrated. There will be shouting, with drums, music, and dancing. The senses of rational beings will become so confused that they cannot be trusted to make right decisions. And this is called the moving of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit never reveals itself in such methods, in such a bedlam of noise. This is an invention of Satan to cover up his ingenious methods for making of none effect the pure, sincere, elevating, ennobling, sanctifying truth for this time. Better never have the worship of God blended with music than to use musical instruments to do the work which last January was represented to me would be brought into our camp meetings. The truth for this time needs nothing of this kind in its work of converting souls. A bedlam of noise shocks the senses and perverts that which if conducted aright might be a blessing. The powers of satanic agencies blend with the din and noise, to have a carnival, and this is termed the Holy Spirit’s working."

See below an example of a bit of "Azusa street" entering in & dividing the people of God into 2 camps.
