The 4 Chaplains & No Greater Love
During WW2 the USAT Dorchester was sunk while crossing the Atlantic. As the crew were being evacuated life jackets were passed out. There were not enough and the four chaplains on board gave theirs away. They held arms on the ship as it went down and were heard praying for the survivors in the water and life boats. Only 230 out of the 904 men onboard survived. Most died from the cold in the water that night. The 4 chaplains were George Fox (Pennsylvannia), Alexander Goode (NY), Clark Poling (Ohio) and John Washington (New Jersey). Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13
