"Making official what the Swiss government had already announced, the Vatican confirmed that Pope Francis will travel to Geneva, Switzerland, on June 21 to mark the 70th anniversary of the World Council of Churches in one of the traditional centers of the Protestant Reformation.

His Holiness has in mind to visit the World Council of Churches in Geneva on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of its foundation,” Vatican spokesman Greg Burke announced on Friday in the Vatican’s daily news bulletin.
“The visit will take place Thursday, June 21, 2018,” Burke said.
With 348 member churches in 110 nations, the World Council of Churches (WCC), founded in 1948, is the largest umbrella group of Christian denominations in the world. It includes most Eastern Orthodox churches, the Anglican Communion, most mainline Protestant churches and several Evangelical denominations.
The Catholic Church is not a member of the WCC, although it does send observers to meetings and events.
The trip will be the second European outing by Francis with a clear ecumenical thrust, after an Oct. 31, 2016 visit to Lund in Sweden to mark the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation in tandem with leaders of the Lutheran World Federation.
The Vatican confirmation of the trip came just ehad a news conference on Friday featuring Swiss
Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, and the Rev. Olav Fykse Tveit, a Norwegian Lutheran theologian and General Secretary of the WCC.

How Much Does The Gospel Weigh?

"If  we are going to use the Gospel as a standardized weight, knowing how much the Gospel weighs might be worth pondering. The prophet Zechariah gives us a clue:
And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD. (Zechariah 11:12-13)
Again, what was forecast in the Old Testament, is fulfilled in the New, and in Matthew 26:15 we see that when Judas asked the chief priests what price they would give for delivering Jesus to them,  it says, “they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.” This was the value the priests of that
day placed on Jesus. But what follows is most significant. When Judas returns later to the chief priests and elders, he says:
I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.  (Matthew 27:4-7)
It was the chief priests of that day, not Judas, who placed the value of Jesus and measured out thirty pieces of silver.
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value. (Matthew 27:9)

 But when Judas threw the money down on the temple floor, he realized that the money was worthless in comparison with the man he had betrayed.

The price of Jesus and what He did for us, weighed out, is immeasurable. When weighed against anything else, the Gospel always tips the scale. It is the standardized weight that no matter what you compare it with, the item you are weighing will come up lacking.

Over the centuries, man has come up with all sorts of ideas and philosophies that have only served to prove how priceless the Gospel really is.....Today, there is a whole barrage of religious leaders who use their intellectual prowess to persuade Christians to abandon the fundamentals of the Christian faith for something more intellectually palatable to the postmodern “progressive” mind. These leaders are holding up a new standard suggesting the standard of the Gospel is outdated and a new standardized weight needs to be placed on the balance. Many of these emerging progressive leaders make it sound like they have made a new discovery that no one has thought of before they came along.

The lemming reporters are also following secular astrobiologists off a cliff at Saturn’s little moon Enceladus. First, the headlines:

consists of salty ice crystals and dust). Now, it’s a gas:
To be clear, study team members aren’t claiming that Enceladus’ methane is biological; after all, the substance can be produced geologically as well (by reactions between rock and hot water, in fact). But the new results could help inform the search for life on ocean moons in the solar system, Rittmann said.

DEATH: Athanasia & Aphtharsia

--One is athanasia ("without death"), which is used in our text to describe God in His eternal essence.
--The other is aphtharsia ("without corruption"), used in II Timothy 1:10: "[Christ] hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel," and translated "incorruption."

In I Corinthians 15:42: "So also is the resurrection of the dead.
It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption."

The doctrine of the "immortality of the soul" is a doctrine of both ancient paganism and modern "New Ageism." Such people all believe in some form of evolution and reject the doctrine of resurrection, which uniquely accompanies creationist religions.
--These false religions believe that, at death, the body decays but the soul continues to exist, either in an eternally disembodied state or reincarnated in some other body.

But Christ, who "hath immortality" and who has died for the whole world and triumphed over death, promises a bodily resurrection to all who believe on Him, assuring both incorruption and immortality forever. "For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality" (v.53).

Yellowstone Petrified Trees

"In some places in Yellowstone Park, erosion of a hillside reveals layers of upright petrified trees. At Specimen Ridge, there are said to be 27 layers, while Specimen Creek contains about 50. This means that the Specimen Creek formation is especially huge—its total vertical height is 1,000 meters (3,400 feet). This raises the question: how did the petrified tree layers form?

The evolutionist explanation

Evolutionists and other long-agers usually teach the following scenario:
  1. Each layer is the remains of a forest.
  2. Each forest was buried where it grew by volcanic ash and other debris.
  3. Dissolved minerals were soaked up by the trees, petrifying them.
  4. After about 200 years, the ash weathered into clay, then into soil.
  5. A new forest grew on top of where the previous one had stood. From the well-preserved tree rings, the oldest tree in each layer was about 500 years old on average.
  6. The new forest was buried by volcanic ash, and the process repeated.
  7. The entire stack of layers was eroded, such that their edges are now exposed in a cliff.
If this scenario were true, it would have taken nearly 40,000 years to form the entire series at Specimen Creek. However, since this scenario is based on the unobservable past, it is not part of normal (operational) science, as this deals with repeatable observations in the present. But as we will see, there are certain features of Specimen Ridge that make no sense under this explanation.
 
Problems with the long-age scenario
Growing trees have extensive root systems, usually 20–30% of the total dry mass of the tree. But the Yellowstone petrified trees have their large roots broken off, leaving ‘root balls.’ This happens when trees are forcefully pushed out of the ground, e.g. by a bulldozer.

A forest buried in place would be expected to have many petrified branches and much petrified bark. But the Yellowstone petrified tree trunks, mostly 3–4 meters (10–12 feet) tall, have very little bark and very few branches. Something has stripped most of the bark and broken off most limbs, leaving only knots in the trunks.

Some of the trees extend into the ‘forest’ layer above. But if the next layer had to wait hundreds of
years for the ash covering to weather into soil (so the ‘next’ forest could grow), then the exposed tree top would have completely decayed. But if the trees were all laid down quickly, this observation should not be surprising.

When trees fall in forests, especially with a flat floor, they have an equal chance of lying in any direction. But in the petrified ‘forests,’ the prostrate (lying down) trees tend to align in the same direction. Also, even the upright trunks are turned so their long axis is aligned the same way. This is consistent with a common force, e.g. moving water or mud, having acted on both after they were uprooted.

If the layers had been buried by volcanic eruptions thousands of years apart, the mineral content of each would probably have been quite different. But the mineral content remains the same throughout over a kilometer of vertical height. This suggests one or few volcanic episodes, with many pulses within each episode, all within a fairly short time frame.

Growing forests have definite soil and humus layers, with lots of rootlets as well as a thriving animal population. However, the petrified ‘forests’ lack all these.

Studies of the Yellowstone plants, including pollen analysis, show that there are many more plant species than would be expected in a forest. And often the pollen doesn’t match the nearby trees. However, this would be explainable if the trees had been uprooted and transported from several places.

In a real forest, plant debris forms an organic layer on the forest floor. The deeper the material, the older it is, so the more time it has had to decay. But the petrified forests lack this pattern of greater decay with depth. There are also finely preserved leaves—since leaves do not retain their shape for very long after they fall off the tree, these leaves were probably buried very quickly.

Volcanic minerals such as feldspars quickly weather into clay when exposed to water and air. But the petrified ‘forest’ layers lack clay. This suggests that none of the layers were exposed for very long.

The patterns of particle sizes in rock layers often indicate how they formed. Consider a bag of mixed nuts—often they will be randomly mixed. Or, if they are shaken, the large brazil nuts end up on top as the smaller nuts fall down through the gaps. But many rock layers which have been laid under
water show patterns different to these. The large grains have sunk to the bottom, and been covered by smaller grains—a pattern called graded bedding. Also, if the water is moving horizontally, alternating layers of coarse and fine grains form.
The Yellowstone ‘forests’ are associated with rocks which contain these laminations, consistent with being formed under water. Some beds of coarse material have tongues of ash penetrating them. Also, such flat beds would seem to require a lot of water so the material can flow over such large distances. Some volcanic rocks in New Zealand that are generally accepted to have been deposited under water look very similar to the Yellowstone rocks.

Under normal circumstances, a tree adds a growth ring every year. The thicker the ring, the faster the tree grew in that time, and this depends on the weather, among other factors. So trees growing at the same time and roughly in the same area should show matching patterns of thick and thin rings. On the other hand, trees growing hundreds of years apart would show different patterns. Because he believed the biblical framework, geologist Dr John Morris predicted in 1975 that trees in different layers of the Yellowstone formations would have matching patterns, rather than completely different ones.

Years later, Dr Michael Arct analyzed cross-sections of 14 trees in different levels spanning seven meters (23 feet). He found that they all shared the same distinctive signature, and that four of them had died only seven, four, three and two years before the other ten. These ten had apparently perished together, and the evidence was consistent with them all having been uprooted and transported by successive mud flows." ICR

"As part of the new LGBTQ kids programming, Toronto Public Libraries across the city host story times with drag queens. The drag queens read stories of acceptance, diversity and all different types of families, then have dance parties or sing.

 At the Pride celebrations in Toronto this year, several library branches held drag queen story times and from there, a new program was born at the Toronto Public Library.

"I think it's important for kids to understand that boys don't have to play with trucks and girls don't just have to play with dolls," said Scott Robins, chair of the Toronto Public Library's LGBTQ kids programming. Mr. Robins compiles a list of kid-friendly performers – whether they're drag queens, artists, or authors – for Toronto library branches to draw on to have LGBTQ representation in their kids' activities.
"We want to be at the forefront of this," Mr. Robins said.
Even though it's new to the Toronto scene, drag queen story times have become very popular. The Jones library was filled on Saturday with so many families, there was barely standing room and the two drag queens had to separate and do their own readings – the original plan was to have them read together.

Creation Moment 3/2/2018 - EYES 101

"The evolution of the eye has always been a dilemma for evolutionists from Darwin’s time to the
present. Although Darwin, Richard Dawkins and other evolutionists have tried to explain how an eye could evolve, their solutions are clearly unsatisfactory. Many kinds of eyes exist, but no progression of eye designs from simple to complex can be produced in the natural or fossil world. Furthermore, the simplest ‘eye’, the eyespot, is not an eye but pigmented cells used for phototaxis; yet even it requires an enormously complex mechanism in order to function as a vision system.

The concept of irreducible complexity (IC) has become an important tool in intelligent design theory. One of the best examples of IC is the design of the animal eye. Eyes are critical because, for the ‘vast majority of animals’, vision is their ‘most important link to the world’. Darwin vividly recognized the problem of eye evolution and the serious impediment that it was for his theory. In his words,
To suppose that the eye, with all its inimitable contrivance for adjusting the focus to different distances, for admitting different amounts of light, and for the correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest possible degree.’
Nonetheless, Darwin felt the seemingly insurmountable problem of the evolution of what he called an organ of ‘extreme perfection and complication’ could be solved. He included a three-page proposal of intermediate stages through which eyes might have evolved via gradual steps. These stages included the following:
  1. photosensitive cell
  2. aggregates of pigment cells without a nerve
  3. an optic nerve surrounded by pigment cells and covered by translucent skin
  4. pigment cells forming a small depression and then a deeper depression
  5. the skin over the depression gradually taking a lens shape
  6. evolution of muscles that allow the lens to adjust.
These stages in living animals are believed to constitute major evidence for the evolution of the eye. Isaak claims that all of these steps are viable because all of them exist in animals living today:
The increments between these steps are slight and may be broken down into even smaller increments. Natural selection should, under many circumstances, favor the increments. Since eyes do not fossilize well, we do not know that the development of the eye followed exactly that path, but we certainly cannot claim that no path exists.’ 
University of Chicago biology Professor Jerry Coyne wrote that human
‘ … eyes did not suddenly appear as full-fledged camera eyes, but evolved from simpler
eyes, having fewer components, in ancestral species. Darwin brilliantly addressed this argument by surveying existing species to see if one could find functional but less complex eyes that not only were useful, but also could be strung together into a hypothetical sequence showing how a camera eye might evolve. If this could be done—and it can—then the argument for irreducible complexity vanishes, for the eyes of existing species are obviously useful, and each step in the hypothetical sequence could thus evolve by natural selection.’
 Others are not so confident. Melnick concluded that the eye is a marvel and that its immense complexity and diversity in nature, as well as its beauty and perfection in so many different creatures of the world, defies explanation even by macroevolution’s most ardent supporters.’  


The oldest eye in the fossil record, that of a trilobite, is a very complex faceted compound eye that ‘dates’ back to the Cambrian, conventionally dated about 540 million years ago. The fossil evidence shows that from the beginning of the fossil record eyes are very complex, highly developed structures. We also have ‘living fossils’, animals that have remained virtually unchanged since very early in history.

Sir Steward Duke-Elder, the preeminent ophthalmologist at the time of his death in 1979, acknowledged the sudden appearance of the perfected vertebrate eye, noting:
The curious thing, however, about the evolution of the vertebrate eye is the apparent suddenness of its appearance and the elaboration of its structures in its earliest known stages. There is no long evolutionary story as we have seen among invertebrate eyes, whereby an intracellular organelle passes into a unicellular and then a multicellular eye, attaining by trial and error, along different routes an ever-increasing degree of complexity. Within the vertebrate phylum the eye shows no progress of increasing differentiation and perfection as is seen in the brain, the ear, the heart and most other organs. In its essentials the eye of a fish is as complex and fully developed as that of a bird or man.'
Although many kinds of very different eyes are known, no direct evidence exists to support the evolution of the eye and its accessory structures. Furthermore, much evidence contradicts such evolutionary beliefs. For example, the number of myelinated fibers in the optic nerve does not correlate with putative evolutionary development. A pigeon has almost as many fibers as a human. Many birds, such as the eagle and hawk, have excellent vision yet have half as many fibers as a domestic pig.

Another example is visual pigments. The presumably highest, most evolved form of life,
--the higher primates, have only two cone photoreceptors, blue and green,
--but birds have a total of six pigments: four cone pigments plus pinopsin (a pineal photoreceptive molecule) and rhodopsin for black and white vision.
Put another way, chickens, humans and mice all have the rhodopsin pigment;
--mice in addition have blue and green;
--humans have blue, green, and red;
--and birds have these three pigments plus violet and pinopsin.
For every color that humans perceive, birds can see very distinct multiple colors, including ultraviolet light. Birds use infrared light (which we sense as heat) for night vision, allowing them to rapidly visualize their young in a dense, dark tree.

According to neo-Darwinism, the simplest modern eye in living animals has had the same amount of time and evolutionary history as the most complex eye because life began about 3.5 billion years ago and all life today evolved from this point in history. Although Darwinists argue that many of these eyes are evolutionary dead ends, this would require an admission that these modern ‘simple’ eyes are only analogues or ‘similar’ to putative past ancestral eyes (to more complex modern types), which reduces their value as
evidence.

Cousins wrote:
‘ … the crucial importance of this requirement to the theory of evolution was fully understood by Darwin, who stated that, in searching for the gradations through which an organ in any species has been perfected, we ought to look at its lineal progenitors. Indeed we ought; though he himself could not do so. It is deceptive to the reader to create a seriation beginning with eye spots as seen in unicellular organisms and call them, as does Duke-Elder (1958), the earliest stage of evolution.’

 Sinclair also concluded that vertebrates and most invertebrates, including insects and cephalopods (molluscs, including octopuses and squid), all have eyes with common visual elements, including ‘a similar photoreceptor design’, yet have a marked ‘dissimilarity of their appearance’.

Adah, Zillah & "Sons of God"

That the sons of God saw the daughters of men
 that they were fair;
 and they took them wives of all which they chose.

And Lamech took unto him two wives:
 the name of the one was Adah,
and the name of the other Zillah.
Genesis 4:19

Lamech was the great-great grandson of Cain....the fact that these are the next women recorded by name in Scripture following Eve must have meaning....The meaning of their names could be a clue to how the "sons of God" were lured by the daughters of men....
1) By their looks & their ornamentations.
2) By Music, likely their dancing.

Adah- root-verb עדה ('ada II) means to ornament oneself (Isaiah 61:10, Hosea 2:15), or someone
else (Ezekiel 16:11). It's used eight times in the Bible, and half of these depict Jerusalem as accessorized woman. (from Abarim)

Zillah - verb צלל (salal), means to tingle or quiver.... noun צלמות (salmawet, which is a combination of our word צל (sel) meaning shade or shadow, and the very common word מות (mawet), meaning death or the realm of death....plural noun צלצלים (selselim), denoting a musical percussion instrument; cymbals (2 Samuel 6:5, 1 Chronicles 13:8 and Psalm 150:4).

ARCHAEOLOGY: Isaiah Signiture?

"Archaeologists say they have a "fantastic discovery" of a 2,700-year-old clay seal found in Jerusalem that possibly belonged to Isaiah, which would make it the first piece of evidence concerning the prophet found outside the Bible.
Author and archaeologist Eilat Mazar wrote in an article in Biblical Archaeology Review on Wednesday titled "Is This the Prophet Isaiah's Signature?" that that ancient Hebrew script found on a half-inch oval of clay, dating back to the eighth century B.C., could potentially have belonged to Isaiah the prophet.
National Geographic added that if the lettering on the seal is correct, it would be the first known link to Isaiah outside the Bible.
Mazar noted that the seal impression was found next to one of King Hezekiah, another biblical figure.
"It would not be the first time that seal impressions of two biblical personas, mentioned in the same verse in the Bible, were found in an archaeological context," she wrote.
"Finding this bulla leads us to consider the personality and the proximity of the prophet Isaiah as one of the closest advisors to King Hezekiah — not only with regard to the events of his time, but also in assessing them from an informed perspective and foreseeing their influence over future events."
