"JERUSALEM (AP) — The dark hall inside Christianity's holiest shrine was illuminated with the flames from thousands of candles on Saturday as worshippers participated in the holy fire ceremony, a momentous spiritual event in Orthodox Easter rites.
Christians believe Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected at the site where the Church of the Holy

Sepulcher now stands in the Old City of Jerusalem. While the source of the holy fire is a closely guarded secret, believers say the flame appears spontaneously from his tomb on the day before Easter to show Jesus has not forgotten his followers.
The ritual dates back at least 1,200 years.
Thousands of Christians waited outside the church for it to open Saturday morning. Custody of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher is shared by a number of denominations that jealously guard their responsibilities under

a fragile network of agreements hammered out over the last millennia. In accordance with tradition, the church's doors were unlocked by a member of a Muslim family, who for centuries has been the keeper of the ancient key that is passed on within the family from generation to generation.
Once inside, clergymen from the various Orthodox denominations in robes and hoods jostled for space with local worshippers and pilgrims from around the world.
Top Orthodox clergymen descended into the small chamber marking the site of Jesus' tomb as worshippers eagerly waited in the dim church clutching bundles of unlit candles and torches.
After a while, candles emerged lit with "holy fire" — said to have been lit by a miracle as a message to the faithful from heaven.
Bells rang as worshippers rushed to use the flames to ignite their own candles.
In mere seconds, the bursts of light spread throughout the cavernous church as flames jumped from one candle to another. Clouds of smoke wafted through the crammed hall as flashes from cameras and mobile phones documented what is for many, the spiritual event of a lifetime.
Some held light from the "holy fire" to their faces to bask in the glow while others dripped wax on their bodies.Israeli police spokeswoman Luba Samri said tens of thousands of worshippers participated in the ceremony.
Many couldn't fit inside the church and the narrow winding streets of the Old City were lined with pilgrims.
The "holy fire" was passed among worshippers outside the Church and then taken to the Church of the Nativity in the West Bank town of Bethlehem, where tradition holds Jesus was born, and from there to other Christian communities in Israel and the West Bank.
Later it is taken aboard special flights to Athens and other cities, linking many of the 200 million Orthodox worldwide."

"The ideological battle between “science guy” Bill Nye and creationist Ken Ham is still raging months after the two clashed in a highly publicized debate over evolutionary theory.
Ham, the founder of Answers in Genesis, a Christian organization that rejects Darwinian evolution, took particular issue with an article Nye recently wrote for the Skeptical Inquirer.
In it, Nye described the debate from his perspective, essentially claimed victory and called Ham “the head of a congregation,” a descriptive the creationist leader didn’t appreciate.
“Of course, AiG is not a church. We don’t have a congregation,” Ham wrote in a response to the article.
Ham went on to write that he believes Nye is purposefully trying to get the public to see his organization as “some sort of cultic fringe group.”

This guy has been ramming through gay marriage in Britain & cracking down on creationism in church schools during his tenure as prime minister. He is as leftist as the labor party on social issues.... and now that he needs "Christian" votes - he calls himself an "evangelical"? How pathetic. Seriously....even the Labor party under Blair didn't legalize gay marriage...In the next British elections people might as well vote for UKIP & split the vote and let Labor have it back-what's the difference? 2 Points about these Baptisms:

1) The Sanctuary:
The Outer Court, where JUSTIFICATION takes place is open to all - the blood of His sacrifice on the altar (altar of sacrifice) and acceptance of baptism (brazen laver) where the priests "washed" before entering the Inner Court.
Only the "priests" could enter the Inner Court, where SANCTIFICATION takes place. (Bread = His Word/Bible study, Lamp = letting your light shine/witnessing, & altar of incense = Prayer) in other words a changed life---working down here for Him above.
HE is the HIGH PRIEST in Heaven above and you are HIS representatives assisting down here on earth in HIS work among the fields that are ripe for the harvest. Or as Peter puts it -

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

1Peter 2:9 In other words-you have been "washed"/baptized at the brazen laver and like the priests, have moved into the Inner Court (Sanctification process)

2) Global Flood Reminder:
These Baptisms also are a reminder of our ancestors-and what they went through because of sin in the earth. Or again, as Peter puts it- Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Should Christians celebrate "Easter"?

Some call those who bring "Easter" services into the church service "pagans" while those who celebrate "Easter" call those who don't "legalists".
Who is right?

So as long as Christians use the occasion for the CHRISTIAN reason for the celebration within the walls of the church sanctuary....they should not be condemned as "pagans". Even though the date of "Easter", the name of it & other aspects are rooted in paganism.
At the same time, those who choose not to participate in any "Easter" services should NOT be called "legalists" by the others.

If the "Gospel" is salvation-and we look to the sanctuary where the plan of salvation is laid out in 2 compartment (outer court / JUSTIFICATION & the inner court SANCTIFICATION)...then could it possibly be that by Boaz redeeming Ruth with one shoe is Christ redeeming us by JUSTIFICATION, which we cannot earn or buy?

SANCTIFICATION requires your co-operation in changing one's life. But JUSTIFICATION is freely offered to all who simply have to accept it. Just a thought....

"Lawsuits on behalf of captive chimpanzees in America could be a turning point in how the judiciary adjudicates on animal rights.
A group known as the Nonhuman Rights Project filed lawsuits on behalf of the chimps claiming they were ‘nonhuman animals’ that had a right to live free from confinement and not be regarded as property but as ‘legal persons’.
The organisation’s website summarized the move:

“These habeas corpus writs are a way of going before the court to argue that our chimpanzee plaintiffs are legal persons with the fundamental right to bodily liberty, based on their level of complex cognition, self-awareness and autonomy, rather than simply pieces of property that can be owned, imprisoned and used for experiments.”

The movement is headed by founder and lawyer Steven Wise, who cites evolutionary philosopher Peter Singer’s book Animal Liberation as a light-bulb moment in his decision to pursue the animal rights cause.

Chimps are NOT "persons". They are animals. Of course that does not mean humans have the right to abuse them....but they are NOT "persons" either on the same level of creation.

Ruth Notes - Judgment Scene

Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there:

and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by;

Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people.

And he said, I will redeem it.

Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi,

thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess,

the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.

And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance:

redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it.

Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning

redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things;

a man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbour:

and this was a testimony in Israel.

Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz,

Buy it for thee. So he drew off his shoe.

And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people,

Ye are witnesses this day,

that I have bought all that was Elimelech's,

and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi.

"Christian minister and apologist Josh McDowell recently spoke at the International Christian Retail Show, where he told attendees that the Internet is the greatest threat to Christianity.

"The Internet has given atheists, agnostics, skeptics, the people who like to destroy everything that you and I believe, the almost equal access to your kids as your youth pastor and you have... whether you like it or not."

He goes on to cite many statistics showing just how influential the Internet has become. According to McDowell:

• The number of evangelical Christians who don't believe in absolute truth has jumped from 51 percent to 62 percent in 1994, then to 78 percent in 1999 and it now hovers at around 91 percent.
• Back in the good old (pre-Internet) days, if an agnostic or atheist wrote a book nobody would read it. But now the Internet has given atheist authors access to these kids' minds." TheReligionVirus
