Dragging God down to the level of man and exalting man to God-like status?

A partial list of Innovation speakers includes Leland Kaiser (an occult savant if there ever was one), Leonard Sweet (the chief evangelist for spiritual formation), Doug Pagitt (an emerging church thought leader), Marcia Prager (she self-identifies as a Jewish rabbi, and teaches people how to “connect with the divine feminine” through tarot cards), and the theologically malnourished Samir Selmanovic.  In October 2010, Selmanovic even held worship services with wiccans at Faith House Manhattan to celebrate the occulted festival of Samhain with them.

 

Despite knowing these things, elder Attiken kept inviting Selmanovic to Ohio several years in a row. Learning this – a few constituents began to get very concerned. When the president was publically called out on his dangerous array of Innovation Conference speakers at a town-hall meeting in April, 2010 – his response was “We are mature enough to handle these kinds of speakers, maybe some of you aren’t.” Encapsulated in this jarring response are four elements:

Creation Moment 8/23/2013 - Damselfish Defense

Barrier Reef, where they are highly vulnerable to predation. The scientists found that a damselfish can increase the size of the eyespot on its tail, in an effort to confuse predators into thinking the fish is swimming in the opposite direction, or to protect its head region from predator strikes and fatal attacks.

Another example of how everything after the fall, was given a self defense mechanism for survival in a fallen world. Each is unique.

The Finger Print Blood Mark

And the priest shall take of the blood thereof with his finger,

and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt offering,

The blood is shed to represent the place of the sinner's life. It is shed to satisfy the demand of the law.
This is held until the Day of Atonement when the redemption is finalized.
The priests dipping of his finger in the blood and placing it on the horns of the altar represents sort of a mark that the sin is recorded. A finger print blood mark. Evidence a death had taken place for the sin.
By this action, the altar had become, in a sense, defiled. And would remain so until the Day of Atonement when the pure blood of the Lord's goat was placed on the altar to purify it.
So too, is the process in the heavenly sanctuary. The Jews call the Day of Atonement 'Yom Kippur', or Judgment Day. The day when your sins are finally blotted out during your judgment. And when does this "cleansing" take place in the anti-type? And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

Post Flood Climate

"The greatest weather catastrophe in earth history—that’s a good way to describe the Flood. The Flood caused radical changes in the land, seas, and atmosphere, the weather would never be the same. In fact, it took centuries before the climate settled into the relative stability we see today. The lesson? Our earth has still not fully recovered from the Flood!

 

Most people envision Noah and his family stepping off the Ark into a warm and sunny world. They imagine balmy breezes and the fragrant aroma of plants and trees just beginning to bloom. The end of the catastrophic, worldwide Flood must have been a dramatic relief to Noah’s family, but it doesn’t mean they were greeted by a gentle spring day.  

 

As a result of the Flood the earth was out of balance, and it would take some time to set itself right. Because the atmosphere, the ocean, and the earth’s crust were not yet in equilibrium, the weather probably took many years to reach the shaky stability we experience today.

Just imagine. The surface of the earth was torn apart by the events of the Flood, and no forests or

grasslands graced the barren landscape. The trees had been destroyed or buried under tons of sediment. The desolate land probably reflected much more light than it does today (a phenomenon known as albedo), causing colder temperatures over the continents.

During Noah’s Flood the earth experienced unparalleled catastrophes that released an incredible amount of heat. Continents separated, massive volcanoes erupted, mountains rose and fell, continents eroded away, and hot magma bubbled up from the mantle to the earth’s surface.

This heat was likely thoroughly mixed and stored in the oceans for hundreds of years after the Flood. Volcanic dust continued to spew into the atmosphere for many years, reducing the sun’s heating. Mountains rose, changing the topography and causing massive landslides in their wake. Earthquakes of extreme magnitude frequently shook the earth’s crust, slowly declining in frequency and intensity.

More clouds likely covered the earth immediately after the Flood, reflecting solar radiation back into space. Phytoplankton grew rapidly in the ocean because of the warm water and high concentrations of nutrients. This bloom probably reduced the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, greatly contributing to global cooling. Consequently, the temperatures over the continents were probably much colder than we experience today.

The temperature contrast between the oceans and the continents would have produced highly energetic storms. We know today that warm oceans form intense hurricanes that devastate any forests or manmade structures that get in their way when they hit land.
For several hundred years after the Flood it’s likely that even larger hurricanes than we experience today, called hypercanes, formed in both hemispheres, lashing the continents all the way from near the equator half way to the poles. Winds up to 500 miles per hour (805 km/h) and rainfall up to 50 inches per hour (127 cm/h) may have eroded loose sediments on the continents and continued to scour the landscape in muddy torrents, year after year, as plants tried to reestablish themselves.

Noah seems to have been providentially protected from the extremes of the post-Flood storminess. If the Ark landed on the mountains of Ararat in eastern Turkey, he would not likely have experienced hypercanes near the shores or the grip of the Ice Age nearer the poles. On the mountains of Ararat he would probably have experienced cold temperatures, snow, and high winds above the 15,000-foot (4.6-km) level soon after leaving the Ark, but surely he would have descended to lower elevations where temperatures were warmer.

When Noah and his descendants settled at lower elevations to the north of the Tigris-Euphrates Valley, they would have found a climate that is more temperate and rainy than what occurs today. Crops, including grapes, would have grown readily in the fertile sediments and volcanic materials left by the Flood.

 

The entire Middle East, including the Tigris-Euphrates Valley, Israel, Egypt, and the Sahara in North Africa show evidence that they were once well-watered, green, and fertile, possibly for hundreds of years after the Genesis Flood. This region continued to become drier as the jet stream moved slowly northward at the end of the Ice Age, establishing a new climate. Today a desert extends completely around the globe about 30° latitude in both hemispheres, caused by warm, dry air that consistently sinks equatorward of the jet stream.
Evidence for a once wetter climate in the Middle East comes not only from scriptural support (And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. Genesis 13:10) but also from many forms of paleoclimatological data. Beneath the sands of the Sahara we find remnants of river valleys where water once flowed, and we find petroglyphs scratched onto rocky outcrops in North Africa, depicting herds of large mammals and alligators in grassy plains where it is now too hot and dry for these lush environments." I take my thoughts from something that Elder and Mrs. Ralph Neall have written describing how typically a sect evolves into a church. They say a sect is often begun by a charismatic leader with tremendous drive and commitment and that it arises as a protest against worldliness and

formalism in a church. It is generally embraced by the poor. The rich would lose too much by joining it, since it is unpopular, despised, and persecuted by society in general. It has definite beliefs firmly held by zealous members. Each member makes a personal decision to join it and knows what he believes. There is little organization or property, and there are few buildings.
The group has strict standards and controls on behavior. Preachers, often without education, arise by inner compulsion. There is little concern about public relations.

And then it passes on to the second generation. With growth there comes a need for organization and buildings. As a result of industry and frugality, members become prosperous. As prosperity increases, persecution begins to wane. Children born into the movement do not have to make personal decisions to join it. They do not necessarily know what they believe. They do not need to hammer out their own positions. These have been worked out for them. Preachers arise more by selection and by apprenticeship to older workers than by direct inner compulsion.

In the third generation, organization develops and institutions are established. The need is seen for schools to pass on the faith of the fathers. Colleges are established.
Members have to be exhorted to live up to the standards, while at the same time the standards of membership are being lowered. The group becomes lax about disfellowshiping nonpracticing members. Missionary zeal cools off. There is more concern over public relations. Leaders study methods of propagating their faith, sometimes employing extrinsic rewards as motivation for service by the members. Youth question why they are different from others, and intermarry with those not of their faith.

In the fourth generation there is much machinery; the number of administrators increases while the number of workers at the grass-roots level becomes proportionately less. Great church councils are held to define doctrine. More schools, universities, and seminaries are established. These go to the world for accreditation and tend to become secularized. There is a reexamination of positions and modernizing of methods. Attention is given to contemporary culture, with an interest in the arts: music, architecture, literature. The movement seeks to become “relevant” to contemporary society by becoming involved with popular causes. Services become formal. The group enjoys complete acceptance by the world. The sect has become a church!

Brethren and sisters, this must never happen to the Seventh-day Adventist Church! This will not happen to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. This is not just an other church—it is God’s church!"

"Thomas Coleman Christian, 77, a longtime lay leader of the Pitcairn Island Seventh-day Adventist Church, died on Pitcairn at 2:00 a.m., local time, Sunday, July 7, 2013.

Christian was a seventh-generation, direct descendant of Fletcher Christian, masters’ mate on the famed H.M.S. Bounty of the widely known Mutiny on the Bounty sea saga.

For many years Christian served as head elder of the Pitcairn Island congregation, serving as a mainstay of the faith. His wife, Betty, was church organist and served in other capacities in the life of the small island community.
Through his many years as radio officer for Pitcairn Island, during a time when radio communication was Pitcairn’s only contact with the outside world, Christian had worldwide amateur radio contact with thousands of shortwave radio enthusiasts who were eager to record having had radio contact with remote Pitcairn Island.

Christian was honored by Queen Elizabeth with the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1963 for his service to the Pitcairn people.

He was seriously injured several times in his years of crewing island longboats while going out to meet calling ships through the dangerous surf that often beats against Pitcairn Island.

Elected a councillor several times to Pitcairn’s governmental leadership, Christian traveled abroad on numerous occasions, once as a delegate from the South Pacific to the General Conference session in the United States, and on another occasion to take radio training at the Adventists’ broadcast headquarters, then located in Glendale, California, United States."

Greenland & Global Flood.....

"According to a press release from University of Colorado, remnants of pine needles, bark and grass have been pulled up in an ice core from two miles under the Greenland ice sheet, between the bottom of the ice sheet and bedrock.  This is the first time plant material has been found under the Greenland ice, the report says. 

The suspected plant material under about 10,400 feet of ice indicates the Greenland Ice Sheet “formed very fast,” said NGRIP project leader Dorthe Dahl-Jensen, a professor at the University of Copenhagen’s Niels Bohr Institute.  “There is a big possibility that this material is several million years old — from a time when trees covered Greenland,” she said.

 The plant remains held in the researcher’s fingers are the scientific facts.  The deduction that trees covered Greenland sometime in the past is logical.  The millions-of-years scenario is storytelling.

This is why I do not consider myself part of the intelligent design movement. Although I obviously agree with their principles about design which are true--I believe in outright Biblical Creationism.

IN the NEWS - 3rd gender in Germany?

"Germany is set to become the first country in Europe to introduce a third, "indeterminate" gender designation on birth certificates.
The option of selecting "blank", in addition to the standard choices of "male" or female" on birth certificates will become available in Germany from November 1. The legislative change allows parents to opt out of determining their baby's gender, thereby allowing those born with characteristics of both sexes to choose whether to become male or female in later life. Under the new law, individuals can also opt to remain outside the gender binary altogether.
Germany is the first country in Europe to introduce this option -- Munich-based newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung is referring to the change as a "legal revolution". It remains unclear, however, how the change will affect gender assignment in other personal documents, such as passports, which still require people to choose between two categories -- "F" for female and "M" for male. German family law publication FamRZ has called for the introduction of a third category, designated by the letter "X".

Leaven & Honey

No meal offering, which you shall offer to the LORD, shall be made with yeast; for you shall burn no yeast, nor any honey, as an offering made by fire to the LORD.

No meal offering could be made with leaven or honey. The reason was because leaven represents sin and honey is thought to be that which is pleasant to the senses.
BUT, leaven & honey was brought as part of the first fruit offering. WHY? Because when you first come to God, He invites you to come with all your sinful tendencies and lay them on the altar before Him.

 

Near Death Experience

IN the NEWS - MSNBC

MSNBC (known here in America as the 'angry network') host Ed Shultz, recently called Christians "phony" who oppose obamacare. Ed has a few problems with that line of attack though.
First, he is of a political party that cried out "BOO" 3 times at the name of God at the Democrat convention during its opening day in 2012.
Second, MSNBC is known for its attacks on Christianity & the Bible when the topic comes up. So they have NO credibility lecturing Christians as to what to believe or support in order to be good

Christians.
Third, since when is it Christian to support government programs that hurt people. For instance, if I had to buy healthcare next year, and with premiums skyrocketing as a result of obamacare, I could literally end up homeless. I couldn't afford it.
Fourth, 85% of Americans (before Obama came along) had health coverage. How is it the "Christian" thing to do, to destroy what 85% have in order to help the 15%? Isn't there a better way to help the 15%? If not, then wouldn't that indicate inept politicians in over their heads?
Fifth, How is expanding government dependency Christian?
Sixth, Shultz doesn't believe his own spin. He is just trying to BULLY Christians into supporting obama. obamacare is unpopular here in America (and increasingly so) so Shultz is trying to drum up support for his guy.

I would argue that socialism and Christianity are incompatible. For as Reagan stated in Jan. 1989, "As government expands, liberty contracts". He was right. Socialism is a contraction of liberty. If God gives us free will & liberty, then who is the government of man to infringe on our liberties?
 ....and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

Creation Moment 8/20/2013 - Evolution: Argumentum ad ignorantiam

Argumentum ad ignorantiam, or "argument from ignorance", I would argue, as an example, is evolution.

"SAN ANTONIO — An Air Force veteran, Senior Master Sgt. Phillip Monk is in a fight for his career over a perceived objection to homosexuality. The Lackland Air Force base first sergeant was told by his commanding officer to clear out his office on Aug. 9 after disagreeing with her wanting to punish an instructor who had expressed religious objections to homosexuality.
The point of contention reportedly is not about anything Monk said, but what he refused to say.
"It's all because he didn't say anything wrong. He thought it," said Steven Branson, pastor of Village Parkway Baptist Church in San Antonio where Monk, his wife and their three teenage sons.

Branson said he has been in touch with Monk since the sergeant told him Aug. 11 of the untenable situation. The pastor said Monk feels abandoned by the institution he has served for 19 years. Deployed as a medic, Monk devoted himself to saving the lives of his fellow service men and women, according to his pastor.
"Now I'm in trouble," Monk told Branson, "and everybody's leaving me behind."
At issue is Monk's refusal to reveal his personal views regarding homosexual marriage to his commanding officer. According to a Fox News report, the commander, a lesbian, asked Monk to report on disciplinary proceedings for an Air Force instructor under investigation for making objectionable comments about homosexual marriage during a training session.
According to Fox News, Monk interviewed the instructor and determined his comments were not intentionally provocative. But some trainees complained. Monk suggested that his commander use the incident as a learning tool about tolerance and diversity, but to no avail.
"Her very first reaction was to say, 'We need to lop off the head of this guy.' The commander took the position that his speech was discrimination," Monk reportedly recounted.
Branson said the commander began to press Monk about his views on the issue.
Fox reported, "She said, 'Sgt. Monk, I need to know if you can, as my first sergeant, if you can see discrimination if somebody says that they don't agree with homosexual marriage.'"
Having witnessed the commander's ire regarding the instructor, Monk declined to answer. He also understood Air Force policy demands silence from homosexual detractors.
"She got angrier and angrier with him," Branson said. "So he got fired for something she thinks he believes."
The action will be a mark on an otherwise spotless record. Branson called Monk "pure military" — a real "do-it-by-the-book" serviceman who also happens to be a strong Christian.
It is because of his faith and the lesson he wants to teach his sons that compels him to take action. As Monk told his pastor, "I'm going to teach my boys they can't run from everything."

Adventist History: Brazil

Today, Brazil has the worlds largest SDA population

1878: A couple from Germany settled in Brazil as Sabbath keepers and coverted one other family.

1884: A ship leaves a German paper behind. - A man in Brusque finds it. He notices an address that one can write to for tracts. He does. He uses the tracts to sell for buying alcohol & trades the rest to the grocer more to drink. - Grocer wraps items with tracts which end up in homes. - A buzz was created in town about the Sabbath & several families began observing it.

When SDA colporteurs from the U.S. arrive, they discovered these Sabbath keepers who already existed due to the tracts scattered by the grocer. The colporteurs were Mr. & Mrs. W.H. Thurston. They settled in Rio de Janeiro.

1915: A seminary was established at Sao Paulo.

SDA Issues - Ryan Bell fired

My people hath been lost sheep:

Pastor Ryan J. Bell of the Hollywood SDA Church in California had his employment terminated.

On one hand this was sad to see someone fired.

But on the other hand it was necessary.

Some comments of ex-pastor Bell on the subject include -  “my views about gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals is one significant issue.” And, “I have expressed discomfort with the expression that the Seventh-day Adventist Church is the remnant church of Bible prophecy ... feeling that statement simply goes too far” as well as “ambiguity about the church’s belief in a literal six-day creation.”

So as you can see, on homosexuality, creation vs. evolution & the interpretation of the latter part of Revelation 12, Mr. Bell disagrees with the Church. But there is more to the story. Bell was dabbling in the modern gnostic movement known as the emerging church. He was a supporter of men like Brian McLaren, Doug Pagitt & the likes of Tony Campolo. These men are at odds with nearly everything taught in Scripture. Their religion is a hallow Christianity at best. Also, Bell led his Church into celebrating Lent, Catholic style. He also openly used his church for political activism. But above all, he turned over the pulpit on a Sabbath day to a Muslim Imam. And how could one forget when he turned over the pulpit to La Sierra professor Trisha Famisaran who then went on a diatribe about "staright" privilege and her praising of the provocative secular singer Lady Gaga from the pulpit.

As Bell went to several non-Adventist colleges...it wasn't Bell spreading the truth to them. It seems Mr. Bell adopted their views instead. SO....Why should he receive a pay check from a church to be a minister when he opposes many of the church's teachings? Answer: He shouldn't.

The Hollywood Church had (and apparently still has) the following on Friday nights during the beginning of the Sabbath hours:  "Each Friday night at 8 p.m. we host Friday Nights @ The Underground in the downstairs Underground Room. This is a fun way to bring in the weekend with movie nights, game nights, barbecues and dinners."

As Mr. Bell himself said - "I have come to on my journey and the spirit of pursuing new truth has put me increasingly at odds with the SDA corporation.I have over the past six weeks spoken with Elder Caviness about where I think I can fit better within the framework of the Southern California Conference and where I think it would be a violation of my conscience to change. The conclusion is that I should part ways with employment in the Seventh-day Adventist Church."
