Meditation Upon the PSALMS Series: Psalm 126

"Psalm 126:
At first glance the setting of this psalm appears to be the return from the Babylonian exile.
However, the description is so general that it could refer to any number of events recorded in the historical books in which Israel was under pressure from foreign powers.
The author and occasion are not named in the psalm.
However, verse 1 points to a time of return from captivity.
Most likely this refers to the Babylonian Captivity, from which there were 3 separate returns:
(1)Under Zerubbabel in Ezra (chapters 1-6; ca. 538 B.C.);
(2)Under Ezra in Ezra (chapters 7-10; ca. 458 B.C.); and
(3)Under Nehemiah in Neh. (chapters 1 & 2; ca. 445 B.C.).

I. The Testimony of Restoration (126:1-3);
II. The Prayer for Riches (126:4);
III. The Wisdom of Righteousness (126:5-6).

Psalm 126:1 When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.
Psalm 126:2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.
Psalm 126:6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves [with him]."
