Commentary of Charles Spurgeon, Adam Clarke & Matthew Henry
And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his
kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind:
and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after
their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind:
and God saw that it was good.
Vs.24,25
We have here the first part of the sixth day's work.
Let the earth bring forth the living creature, etc. - חיה נפש nephesh chaiyah ; a general term to express all creatures endued with animal life......Let the earth bring forth, not as if the earth had any such
prolific virtue as to produce these animals, or as if God resigned his creating
power to it; but, "Let these creatures now come into being upon the earth,
and out of it, in their respective kinds, conformable to the ideas of them in
the divine counsels concerning their creation."
And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, etc. - Every thing both in the animal and vegetable world was made so according to its kind.
There is as much wisdom and care displayed in the creation of the
tiniest creeping insect as in the creation of leviathan himself. Those
who use the microscope are as much amazed at the greatness and the
goodness of God as those are who use the telescope. He is as great in
the little as he is in the great. After each day’s work, God looks upon
it, and it is well for us every night to review our day’s work.
