"You shall not murder. (Ex. 20:13).
He said: “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ But I say to you that whoever is angry with his
brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment” (Matt. 5:21, 22).
He came to make plain that which was taught from the beginning. He did not mean that the commandment, “You shall not murder,” was incomplete, and that He was giving something better and greater, but He showed how comprehensiveness it is,—that the words, “You shall not murder,” also mean, “you shall not be angry.” “Love is the fulfillment of the law,” and love “is not provoked” (1 Cor. 13:5).
In this we are not belittling the guilt of murder, but showing where the sin Iies. He who has taken the life of another has done an awful thing, yet he is not necessary more guilty than one who has done something not so looked upon by the world."
