Creation Moment 10/5/2020 - Testimony of the Stars

 "We cannot use science to prove the age of the universe because science can only deal with what is observable now. We can measure the rates of all manner of things in the present. However, to use these as ‘clocks’ to estimate ages, we have to assume a history, which in turn depends upon our beliefs about where we came from. 

 

 Blue stars are the biggest and brightest of all ‘main sequence’ stars, but this means they burn up their nuclear fuel very fast. Indeed, they burn so fast that the biggest ones could not last more than a million years, and the smallest around 10 million years. 

Yet blue stars abound in spiral galaxies, including our Milky Way. This suggests that these galaxies cannot be even one million years old. This problem for the belief that the galaxies are billions of years old is ‘solved’ by assuming the blue stars formed more recently than the rest of the galaxy. However, no one has observed such star formation and there is not even a viable mechanism for it to happen.

 

 Globular clusters are compact, ball-shaped groups of stars that orbit the centre of a galaxy. They supposedly contain ‘very old’ stars. The secular big bang story has great difficulty explaining them. Astronomers have seen many fast-moving neutron stars in globular clusters. 

These are thought to arise from supernovas (exploding stars) within the cluster, where a neutron star is created that is ‘kicked’ out at very high speed. 

With the compact sizes of globular clusters and the high speed of the neutron stars, all neutron stars should be ejected from such clusters in less than two million years. Many globular clusters should have emptied in a few thousand years. A major study of this so-called ‘retention problem’ called it a “long-standing mystery”. These observations, too, are consistent with a young age of the universe."

That would seem quite a roomy way of putting it, would it not, and comparatively inoffensive to all sensitive souls.  You would not even have to be a good humanist in order to find that reminder meaningful and harmless.   

 

Any logician with some mysterious preference for the indefinite, the vague and reducible, would feel that this was a commandment he could manage to handle. And men with a passion for Western self-sufficiency would be quite happy, too. 

 For a commandment of that kind would be nothing more than what any sensible man could manufacture all by himself.”

 The paper proclaims that “noncompliance should incur a penalty” and notes that it should be a “relatively substantial” one.It suggests that “employment suspension or stay-at-home orders,” should be issued, but that fines should be discouraged because they can be legally challenged, and “may stoke distrust without improving uptake.”

The paper also suggests that government health authorities should avoid making public their close relationship with vaccine manufacturers, to quell public mistrust."

Creation Moment 10/4/2020 - Greek Verbs of Col.1:16

"The opening chapter of Genesis makes a significant and scientifically accurate statement concerning the fixity of created kinds. During the creation week, we repeatedly read the phrase that every type of living thing was created “after its kind.”

 While there is observable variation within plant and animal kinds, we don’t see one fundamental kind evolving into another, nor do we see any evidence of transitional forms in the fossil record. Interestingly, we see the Creator’s upholding of fundamental, creation-based principles reaffirmed in the Greek text of the New Testament.

 

In Colossians 1:16-17, we are given insight into the Lord Jesus Christ as the Creator:

For by Him [Jesus] all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible...All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

 

In the section of verse 16 stating “all things were created through Him and for Him,” the word for “created” isn’t a simple past tense form of the Greek verb to build or create, κτίζω (ktizó), but is inflected in the perfect tense as ἔκτισται (ektistai). 

 

This perfect tense verbal form conveys a deeper and much richer meaning in the Greek than can be conveyed in a quick English translation. 

 

In fact, the perfect tense was often used intentionally by Greek New Testament authors to teach important theological truths. Greek verbs in the perfect tense describe an event that occurred in the past with ongoing effects or activity continuing into the present. 

Even more fascinating is that this verb is also inflected in the passive voice, meaning that an external agent (God) is involved in the continuing perfective action upon His creation."

Creation Moment 10/3/2020 - WASP-189b: More Planetary Diversity

"WASP-189b is a gas giant transiting the A-type star WASP-189.

Also known as HD 133112, the host star is larger and more than

2,000 degrees Celsius hotter than the Sun, and so appears to glow blue.

WASP-189b sits around 20 times closer to its star than Earth does to the Sun, and completes a full orbit in just 2.7 days.

“The WASP-189 planetary system is located 322 light-years away in the constellation of Libra,” said Dr. Monika Lendl, an astronomer at the University of Geneva.

WASP-189b is especially interesting because it is a gas giant that orbits very close to its host star.

It takes less than 3 days for it to circle its star, and it is 20 times closer to it than Earth is to the Sun.

Only a handful of planets are known to exist around stars this hot, and this system is by far the brightest.

WASP-189b is also the brightest hot Jupiter that we can observe as it passes in front of or behind its star, making the whole system really intriguing.”

 “We also saw that the star itself is interesting — it’s not perfectly round, but larger and cooler at its equator than at the poles, making the poles of the star appear brighter,” Dr. Lendl said.

“It’s spinning around so fast that it’s being pulled outwards at its equator! Adding to this asymmetry is the fact that WASP-189b’s orbit is inclined; it doesn’t travel around the equator, but passes close to the star’s poles.”

The third angel's message is a full gospel. It produces fruitage that fits for heaven those who accept it. It is not one-sided; it omits nothing essential for salvation; it preaches the law of obedience and the faith necessary for salvation. 

 

The law and the gospel unite and are in per­fect accord in bringing salvation to sinners.

 

The performance of one duty to the neglect of others is not Christlikeness. 

We are so to preach that men may be saved. 

Extremes are not healthful to the soul. 

*In these days of disobedience to the law of God, we must preach obedience to the law. 

*In these days of doubt and unbelief, of evolution and self-saving, Christ must be lifted up as the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world. Christ is our perfect pattern. 

 

We are to live as He lived. 

His life is to be our life. 

We are to obey our heavenly Father as He obeyed. 

Therefore it takes the whole gospel to make the kind of Christians who "keep the com­mandments of God, and the faith of Jesus." I.H.R.

The woman had been the leader of a sect, of which the boy's family was a part, when she committed the crime.

The prosecution stated that her motivation for the murder had been to strengthen her position within the group. She had told members that the boy had been "possessed by evil" and was the reincarnation of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

 

The young boy choked on his own vomit after the woman tied him in a burlap sack and left him in a bathroom with minimal air supply on a hot summer day in 1988.

The boy died shortly thereafter following "a bitter struggle."

 

The boy's mother stood by the 73-year-old woman, saying that "she is like a sister and a good friend to me."

"Under a microscope, the first few hours of every multicellular organism’s life seem incongruously chaotic. After fertilization, a once tranquil single-celled egg divides again and again, quickly becoming a visually tumultuous mosh pit of cells jockeying for position inside the rapidly growing embryo.

Yet, amid this apparent

pandemonium, cells begin to self-organize. Soon, spatial patterns emerge, serving as the foundation for the construction of tissues, organs, and elaborate anatomical structures from brains to toes and everything in between. For decades, scientists have intensively studied this process, called morphogenesis, but it remains in many ways enigmatic.

Now, researchers have discovered a key control mechanism that cells use to self-organize in early embryonic development. The findings, published in Science on October 2, 2020, shed light on a process fundamental to multicellular life and open new avenues for improved tissue and organ engineering strategies.

Studying spinal cord formation in zebrafish embryos revealed that different cell types express unique combinations of adhesion molecules in order to self-sort during morphogenesis.

Thoughts on Sacrifice

 "Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall

Only one covenant will keep when "fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is" (I Cor. 3:13). 

That covenant must have a fireproof, binding element—an element that will not only withstand fire, but that will respond to the great magnet that will draw all men unto Him.

That binding element is love, revealed in sacrifice.  

There is no suitable substitute.

---If we do not develop such love now, we will not have it then."

"Renewed hostilities have been raging between Armenian and

Azerbaijani forces around the contested territory of Nagorno-Karabakh in the southern Caucasus.

 Sunday evening kick-started a clash between Armenia and Azerbaijan that quickly transitioned into a full-blown war between Armenia and Azerbaijan. 

 

In scale and scope, the fighting that broke out on Sunday surpasses the periodic escalations of recent years, involving heavy artillery, tanks, missiles and drones.

So far there are more than 100 confirmed deaths among civilians and Armenian combatants killed in action. Azerbaijan does not release

data on its military losses, but these can be assumed to be at least as high.

 

The fighting appears to be driven by an attempt by Azerbaijani forces to recapture swathes of territories occupied by Armenian forces in the Karabakh war after the Soviet Union collapsed.

The Azerbaijani advance started on in the morning of September 27 and as of September 28, the Azerbaijani military said that it had captured seven villages and several key heights in the Fuzuli and

Jabrayil areas. The military also announced that Azerbaijan captured the Murov height of the Murovdag mountain range and established fire control of the Vardenis-Aghdar road connecting Karabakh with Armenia. The Ministry of Defense said that this will prevent the transportation of additional troops and equipment from Armenia along the route in the direction of the Kelbajar and Aghdar regions in Karabakh.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry also claimed that over 550 Armenian soldiers were killed and dozens pieces of Armenian military equipment, including at least 15 Osa air defense systems, 22 battle tanks and 8 artillery guns, were destroyed. All statements from the Armenian side about the casualties among Azerbaijani forces were denounced as fake news.

 

Since the fighting started on Sunday, Turkey has declared its unconditional support to Azerbaijan, and appears to be lending Azerbaijani various kinds of military capability. There is little doubt that highly regarded Turkish military drone technology is being deployed.

...Turkey has mobilized mercenaries from Syria to fight for Azerbaijan. 

 

For as long as combat is contained to contested territory in and around Nagorno-Karabakh, the optics of preserving Russian neutrality make Moscow's overt involvement unlikely. However, a longer conflict with increasing Turkish participation would threaten Russia's dominance in an area it considers part of its sphere of privileged interests, and invite a response."
