"There is a surprising genetic unity between the earliest known Europeans and contemporary Europeans, ancient DNA reveals. This finding suggests that a complex network of sexual exchange may have existed across Europe over the past 50,000 years, and also helps to pinpoint when modern humans interbred with Neanderthals, the closest extinct relatives of modern humans, the researchers said.

To shed light on the origins of modern Europeans, scientists analyzed DNA from the left shinbone of a skeleton, known as K14, which was excavated in 1954. K14 is one of the oldest fossils of a European modern human —in the area that's now Kostenki, in western Russia. That region is known for its mammoth structures, "circles made of mammoth bones that would have been the base of tents, huts, hearths, lithic and bone artifacts, as well as personal ornaments and figurines," said study co-author Marta Mirazón Lahr,...
The researchers sequenced K14's complete genome, making it the second-oldest modern human genome ever sequenced. The oldest yet was from a man found in western Siberia.
Surprisingly, the researchers found that contemporary Europeans shared genetic continuity with ancient Europeans.
"Virtually all the major genetic components you find in contemporary Europeans are present among the earliest Europeans," said lead study author Eske Willerslev, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. "I don't think many would have predicted this."
The scientists discovered that for millennia, Europe may have been home to a so-called "metapopulation" of modern humans — a group of distinct, separate populations that regularly mixed, grew and fragmented. The genetic contributions of the earliest Eurasians to modern European populations may not have arrived through a few distinct migrations from Asia to Europe, but instead through gene flow in various directions.
"We have to revise our understanding of how the genetic diversity in contemporary Europeans came about," Willerslev told Live Science. "Early Europeans were part of a metapopulation stretching all the way to Central Asia, and through a complex network of sexual exchange, contemporary European populations were created." LiveScience

UCLA biologists have identified a gene that can slow the aging process throughout the entire body when activated remotely in key organ systems.

"Working with fruit flies, the life scientists activated a gene called AMPK that is a key energy sensor in cells; it gets activated when cellular energy levels are low.
Increasing the amount of AMPK in fruit flies' intestines increased their lifespans by about 30 percent - to roughly eight weeks from the typical six - and the flies stayed healthier longer as well.
The research, published Sept. 4 in the open-source journal Cell Reports, could have important implications for delaying aging and disease in humans, said David Walker, an associate professor of

integrative biology and physiology at UCLA and senior author of the research.
"We have shown that when we activate the gene in the intestine or the nervous system, we see the aging process is slowed beyond the organ system in which the gene is activated," Walker said.
Walker said that the findings are important because extending the healthy life of humans would presumably require protecting many of the body's organ systems from the ravages of aging - but delivering anti-aging treatments to the brain or other key organs could prove technically difficult. The study suggests that activating AMPK in a more accessible organ such as the intestine, for example, could ultimately slow the aging process throughout the entire body, including the brain.
Humans have AMPK, but it is usually not activated at a high level, Walker said.
"Instead of studying the diseases of aging - Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, cancer, stroke, cardiovascular disease, diabetes - one by one, we believe it may be possible to intervene in the aging process and delay the onset of many of these diseases," said Walker, a member of UCLA's Molecular Biology Institute. "We are not there yet, and it could, of course, take many years, but that is our goal and we think it is realistic." ChemistryTimes

12 people Wednesday as thousands jammed a public square for an evening vigil honoring victims of France's deadliest terror attack in a half century.

"Although the Bible does not tell us exactly how long ago it was that God made the world and its creatures, we can make a good estimate of the date of creation by reading through the Bible and noting some interesting passages:

1. God made everything in six days. He did this, by the way, to set a pattern for mankind, which has become our seven day week (as described in Exodus 20:11). God worked for six days and rested for one, as a model for us. Furthermore, Bible scholars will tell you that the Hebrew word for day used in Genesis 1, can only mean an ordinary day in this context.
2. We are told God created the first man and woman—Adam and Eve—on Day Six. Many facts about when their children and their children’s children were born are given in Genesis. These genealogies are recorded throughout the Old Testament, up until the time of Christ. They certainly were not chronologies lasting millions of years.

As you add up all of the dates, and accepting that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to Earth almost 2000 years ago, we come to the conclusion that the creation of the Earth and animals (including the dinosaurs) occurred only thousands of years ago (perhaps only 6000!), not millions of years. Thus, if the Bible is right (and it is!), dinosaurs must have lived within the past thousands of years." AIG

Creation Moment 1/7/2015 - Christmas / Creation Connection

"Christmas is based upon the biblical account of Creation as told in Genesis 1 being historically true.
God created a perfect world and perfect universe. He created all of life including man. His creation was so perfect that there was no death or suffering for animals or man.

The reason God created everything and man was so that man would worship and praise Him. But He didn’t want man to be a mindless race of robots that worshipped and praised Him because they were programmed to do so. He wanted their praise to be freely given and to accomplish that He made man with a free will to think and reason for himself.

However, that free will also allowed man to choose to go against God’s edicts and that’s exactly what man did. Eve succumbed to Satan’s temptations concerning eating the fruit for the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Eve went to Adam and he blew it for all of mankind when he decided himself to disobey what God said and willingly chose to eat of the forbidden fruit.

Adam’s disobedience was the first sin and it had devastating consequences. It created a spiritual separation between man and God. The perfect relationship Adam had was over. Not only was mankind now spiritually separated from God but Adam’s sin introduced death, disease and suffering into all of creation. From that day, Adam and Eve began to age and die.

From the very beginning, God had a plan to save His lost creation. In Genesis 3, He promised Adam and Eve that He would send His Savior to crush the head of Satan and restore our relationship with God. The only way that breach was to be bridged was for God to make the ultimate sacrifice Himself. All through the Old Testament, He tells us about this sacrifice and made numerous prophecies concerning the arrival, life, death and resurrection of His sacrificial Lamb.

 But think about it, the entire Gospel message is predicated upon a historical young earth, no death before sin creation.

If there had been millions of years of death and suffering before Adam, then how could death have been the result of his sin? When God warned Adam about eating the forbidden fruit, He told him that the day he ate of the fruit that he should surely die. If death had already existed in a creation that God called ‘very good’ then Adam should have considered death a reward and something to obtain, not as a punishment. If death was part of a ‘very good’ creation, they why did God require a blood sacrifice for the remission of sin and why did Jesus have to die upon the cross for us? Why did God and Jesus describe death as the final enemy if it was part of a ‘very good’ creation?

Whether you realize it or not, Christmas points straight back to Creation and straight forward to Resurrection Sunday. If Genesis 1-3 is not true factual history, then neither is the Gospel message of Christmas and Resurrection Sunday. Without a true Genesis, Christmas and Resurrection Sunday crumble in a heap of lies and fairytales." CreationRevolution

"“God is left-handed”. This catchy phrase refers to the ‘chirality problem’ for evolution. Ken explained that during the time of his graduate research, the Miller–Urey experiment was the prize ‘proof’ for evolutionists that life could somehow spontaneously arise from a primordial chemical soup.
In 1953 graduate student Stanley Miller conducted experiments based on Harold Urey’s proposals

about the necessary environmental conditions for life to arise by chance on a primordial Earth billions of years ago (often referred to as ‘chemical evolution’). It involved an electrical discharge through a mixture of gases in a flask, and produced some amino acids. But the major product of the experiment (about 85 percent by volume) was a noxious mixture of tarry substances poisonous to life, while the amino acids were only about 0.9 percent of the total volume. He says, “Much work was going on at the time to develop variations of this experiment, but without success.”
Moreover, the amino acids produced were in any case what is known as a racemic (50:50) mixture of left and right-handed forms, whereas all living plants and animals can only use left-handed amino acids to make proteins. (Left and right hand refers to the fact that the amino acids, though chemically identical in their ability to form peptides, are mirror images of one another, like our left and right hands. An exception is the simplest amino acid, glycine.) If amino acids of the wrong type are included in the chain during manufacture, life’s proteins cannot fold properly into the shapes needed to function. Life therefore requires what is known as an ‘optically pure’ supply of solely left-handed amino acids, whereas chemistry by itself, following the laws of chance, will always produce a racemic mixture. Moreover, all sugars in DNA and RNA must be ‘right-handed’, otherwise the vital informational double helix could not form.
Ken says, “Evolutionists argue that given sufficient time proteins could form by chance. But, for a protein of just the minimum 100 amino acids (many are tens of thousands long), for all to be left-handed, and assuming that it did not matter which order they appeared in, it’s like flipping a coin 100 times and resulting in all heads. "TEMPE, AZ – A biology teacher who describes himself as ‘an open-minded skeptic’ purportedly showed a slide in one of his classes that mocks Jesus and describes biblical creation as ‘magic.’

Christofer Bang is a lecturer at Arizona State University who teaches biology and ecology courses. According to his academic profile page, his areas of “expertise” include ecology, evolution and plant biology.
According to news reports last week, Bang mocked biblical creation and Christianity during a lecture in his biology class. A student who wished to remain anonymous shared information on Bang’s lecture with Campus Reform.
According to the student, Bang began his lecture by showing a slide titled “Evolution vs. Creationism.” The slide featured two cartoons—one depicting Charles Darwin with the words “genetics,” “adaption,” and “natural selection,” along with images of an ape-like creature gradually evolving into a man. The other cartoon showed a caricature of Jesus creating a man, with the words “zap!” and “magic!”
According to the student, several students thought the slide was inappropriate.
“Quite a few students in the lecture hall were bothered by the picture, and it didn’t contribute to the lecture besides adding spite,” the student said." BCN

The thought-provoking article, published on Christmas Day, walks us through the history of evolutionary theories in popular culture dating back to Time Magazine's famous cover story, "Is God Dead?"

Metaxas takes an in-depth look at how the world was beginning to believe at that time that there was no longer a need for God since science was becoming so advanced. That same year, Carl Sagan concluded that there were two important criteria for sustaining life on any planet: the right "kind" of star, and the planet's distance from that star.

Of course, since then, scientists have greatly revised those two criteria to include over 200, but this realization only goes to further prove Intelligent Design as opposed to the amazingly improbable chance that a life-sustaining planet would form from nothing on its own.

"As factors continued to be discovered, the number of possible planets hit zero, and kept going. In other words, the odds turned against any planet in the universe supporting life, including this one. Probability said that even we shouldn't be here," Metaxas writes.

"Today there are more than 200 known parameters necessary for a planet to support life-every single one of which must be perfectly met, or the whole thing falls apart. Without a massive planet like Jupiter nearby, whose gravity will draw away asteroids, a thousand times as many would hit Earth's surface. Human vision depends on pigments that absorb light. These pigments lie inside cells known as rods and cones. Cones are sensitive to color and also help perceive fine detail and rapid changes. Rods are more sensitive to light than cones, but are not sensitive to color, and are responsible for peripheral and night vision. Both rods and cones are found in a layer of tissue in the back of the eye known as the retina.

"A former Seventh-day Adventist pastor who chose to give up religion for a year has announced that he no longer believes in God.
"I've looked at the majority of the arguments that I've been able to find for the existence of God and...I have to say I don't find there to be a convincing case in my view," Ryan Bell revealed in an interview with NPR.

"I don't think that God exists. I think that makes the most sense of the evidence that I have and my experience. But I don't think that's necessarily the most interesting thing about me," he added.
Raised in a Christian family, Bell studied at Pacific Union College where he was known for his deeply-held conservative views. He went on to become pastor of several churches in Philadelphia, before moving to Hollywood to lead a Seventh-day Adventist church there. However, he was asked to resign in March 2013 after raising theological issues he had with the church's teaching, and began to struggle with his faith.
Then, in December of last year, Bell wrote a blog post that quickly went viral. He announced that he would be undertaking a "year without God".
"I'm making it official and embarking on a new journey. I will 'try on' atheism for a year. For the next 12 months I will live as if there is no God," Bell wrote.
"I will not pray, read the Bible for inspiration, refer to God as the cause of things or hope that God might intervene and change my own or someone else's circumstances. (I trust that if there really is a God that God will not be too flummoxed by my foolish experiment and allow others to suffer as a result)."
Bell also pledged to read "atheist 'sacred texts'" written by key authors such as Hobbes, Nietzsche, Hitchens and Dawkins.
Bell now works for PATH, an organisation which works with homeless people, and has begun dating - his girlfriend is a committed Christian." CT

Hence, the Apostolic Age ended with their deaths. There are no true Apostles in that sense today, as claimed by the charismatic movement.

Paul was a true APOSTLE (he met all the above criteria)

1) He actually saw Christ on the road to Damascus 2) He was both personally chosen & audibly called 3) He was given the ability to perform signs & wonders

A new study has discovered just why red meat causes cancer and other health problems in humans while other mammals consume red meat and experience no inflictions.

Pork, beef and lamb all contain the sugar Neu5Gc. This sugar is naturally produced by other mammals but not humans, according to new research.
