Psilanthropism is the idea that Christ was born simply as a human and that the virgin birth was made up to make Him sound divine. Some Ebionites in early Christianity were psilathropists. The pagan philosopher Celsus, who hated & debated Chrsitianity, claimed that the father of Christ was a Roman soldier named Pantera. Some Jews perpetuated that line during the middle ages to try and hold back coversions in Europe from Judiaism to Christianity. A modern church that espouses some psilathropist views is the Unifiicaation church ( aka moonies). The term coined by Samuel Taylor Coleridge,"Willing suspension of disbelief" was used to describe the idea of the virgin birth. {Psilo is Greek for merely or only & anthropos is Greek for human being}.
So we know what man says-but what does Scripture tell us?
Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matthew 1:23
To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. ---And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. LUKE 1:27,31
