Papal Notes - After Shocks

Being filled with all unrighteousness... Romans 1:29

"Though the Vatican may be trying to ignore the tempest generated by explosive allegations from a former papal ambassador that Pope Francis knew about misconduct allegations against ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick and ignored them, that didn’t stop reverberations being felt in Rome on Wednesday.

Pope Francis during his regular Wednesday general audience didn’t allude to the McCarrick charge.

there were at least four aftershocks from the earthquake triggered on Sunday, when an 11-page letter from Italian Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò was released claiming he informed Francis in June 2013 that McCarrick had “corrupted generations of seminarians,” that the Vatican’s Congregation for Bishops has a thick dossier on the ex-cardinal, and that Pope emeritus Benedict XVI had imposed restrictions as a result.
  • Vatican spokesmen were compelled to issue a public denial after Italian news agencies moved
a story claiming close aides to the pope described him as “embittered” about the Viganò affair.
  • Two American archbishops on Tuesday and Wednesday became the latest prelates in the country to endorse Viganò’s credibility.
  • Viganò himself gave an interview to a major Italian newspaper, among other things rejecting suggestions that he’s lashing out at Francis now out of sour grapes.
  • At the end of Francis’s General Audience on Wednesday, a group in St. Peter’s Square could be heard chanting, and many observers thought they heard “Viganò!” ....
Late on Tuesday, the Italian news agency Ansa carried a story citing “close collaborators” of Francis describing the pontiff as embittered by the Viganò affair." CRUX

IN the NEWS - Lafayette, Louisiana Leaving God

"A local library in Lafayette, Louisiana has recently decided to host
Drag Queen Story Time” on October 6th of this year. The purpose of the event, according to the Lafayette Public Library System, is to “share stories of individuality, openness and acceptance with families seeking an opportunity to show their children that every person is unique and should be treated with equal respect.” However, the mayor and various local members of government have challenged whether this event is something in the best interests of the children of the town." Lessons of the Altar of Incense

"The golden altar, or altar of incense, was before the veil in the first apartment of the sanctuary.

Within the crown of gold encircling the top of the altar, holy fire was kept constantly burning, (Exodus 30:8) from which ascended the fragrant smoke of the incense placed upon it every morning and evening.

The high priest alone was to perform the sacred duty of placing incense before the Lord on the golden altar. (Exodus 30:7-8).

Our minds should often dwell upon the work of Christ in the heavenly sanctuary. (Hebrews 3:1).

John, the beloved disciple, was permitted several times in vision to behold the Savior officiating in the heavenly sanctuary.
--He saw a heavenly being standing at the glorious golden altar.
--He beheld the incense offered upon that holy altar.
--How it must have thrilled his soul when lie saw that precious incense added to the poor, faltering prayers of the struggling saints here on the earth:
*He saw those prayers, after the incense was added, ascend up before God, and they were accepted because they were made fragrant with the incense. "We know not what we should pray for as we ought; but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the Will of God." (Romans 8:26-27) But even the Spirit could not present the prayers of sinful mortals before a pure and holy God without adding the fragrant incense.

David understood what was typified by the incense, and prayed, "Let my prayer be set forth before Thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice." (Psalms 141:2).

The horns of the golden altar were often touched with the blood of the sin-offering, thus typifying that it was Christ's death that made it possible for our prayers to be answered and for us to be clothed in His righteousness.

--As the fragrance of the incense was not confined to the sanctuary, but was carried in the air to the surrounding neighborhood; so in like manner, when one is clothed with Christ's righteousness, an influence will go out from him which those that come in contact with him will recognize by its fragrance as of heavenly origin."

SDA Issues - Simplifying 1888

"The rejection of the 1888 light opened the way for false ideas to enter under the guise of righteousness by faith.

Indeed, if we turn from the genuine, nothing can prevent our grasping the counterfeit.

A. T. Jones, at the 1893 General Conference Session showed how the mind devoted to self becomes the mind of Satan. He traced its development though paganism to the subtleties of Romanism.

He said there are two kinds of justification by faith- -a true and a counterfeit.

The counterfeit says that justification by faith is purely a legal pronouncement made millions of light years away that has no relation to our human heart; we verbally "accept Christ" and we start the heavenly machinery rolling.

One's name is then entered in God's computer and our eternal social security benefits are then credited to our account.
Our decision has initiated this process of legal acquittal. We were clever enough to put the coins in the washing machine. An element of pride can enter here; we initiated the process of our salvation.
A perfect example of what Peter has told us: "While they promise [us] liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage" (2 Peter 2:19, NKJV)."

Creation Moment 8/30/2018 - Colors of the Rainbow

I have set my bow in the cloud. Genesis 9:13

"Rainbows are the result of well-known physics. When light enters at an angle into a substance where it travels more slowly (like a prism), different wavelengths are bent differently. This effect is called dispersion. Since color depends on wavelength, we see this as a band of different colors.

The shorter wavelengths (violet and blue) are bent the most, the longer wavelengths (red and orange) are bent the least.

Isaac Newton experimented on dispersion by glass prisms. His experiments demonstrated that color is a property of the light itself; colored objects don’t generate color, they absorb or reflect light that is already colored.

Newton designated seven colors to the rainbow by analogy with the seven notes of the musical scale: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet, hence the mnemonic initialism ROYGBIV.
A careful reading of Newton’s work indicates that the color he called indigo, we would normally call blue; his blue is then what we would name blue-green or cyan.

Also, dispersion can be produced from water drops, including rain. The drops also reflect the light, so we normally see rainbows only if we are between the sun and the raindrops. The reflection also explains why the sequence seems reversed: violet on the inside and red on the outside. Yet we can also see smaller rainbows with mist and sea spray." AIG

Justinian's Role in the Rise of the Little Horn

"Constantine was the founder of the "little horn" of Daniel 7, when he united church and state, and his successors, pursued the same course in strengthening the union of church and state.

Numerous laws were enacted against heresies, as recorded in the Theodosian Code.
Sects multiplied during this period of the church in Pergamos.

The Lord reproved this church because of the doctrine of Balaam which was held by the church.

They also professed the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, and were admonished to repent or their light would be removed.

Neverthless, the Lord says that there were in that church those holding the true faith, and who had not denied the name of the Lord. (See Rev. 2:12-17.)

The pressure of worldliness was so great that the true children of God would in the future have to separate themselves from the apostates in the church. This separation took place in the days of Justinian, the Eastern emperor. We will let the historians tell the story.

Concerning Justinian, we read:
"For by an edict which he issued to unite all men in one faith, whether Jews, Gentiles, or Christians, such as did not, in the term of three months, embrace and profess the Catholic faith, were declared infamous, and, as such, excluded from all employments, both civil and military, rendered incapable of leaving anything by will, and their estates confiscated, whether real or personal. These were convincing arguments of the truth of the Catholic faith; but many, however, withstood them; and against such as did, the imperial edict was executed with the utmost rigor. Great numbers were driven from their habitations with their wives and children, stripped and naked. Others betook themselves to flight, carrying with them what they could conceal, for their support and maintenance; but they were plundered of the little they had, and many of them inhumanly massacred, by the Catholic peasants, or the soldiery, who guarded the passes."

Another historian says:
"The reign of Justinian was a uniform yet various scene of persecution; and he appears to have surpassed his indolent predecessors, both in the contrivance of his laws and the rigor of their execution. The insufficient term of three months was assigned for the conversion or exile of all heretics; and if he still connived at their precarious stay, they were deprived, under his iron yoke, not only of the benefits of society, but of the common birthright of men and Christians."

In Italy the Arian Ostrogoths held rule, but they were tolerant, and tried by equitable laws to purge out simony from the church. The Vandals were rooted up in 534 A. D., and the Ostrogoths in 538 A. D. The "little horn" rooted up three horns,—the Heruli, the Vandals, and the Ostrogoths. These nations perished, root and branch, from history, as independent nations. The year 538 A. a marks the supremacy of the "little horn," which is a union of the Catholic Church and the Roman state."

Papal Notes - More Calls for Resignation

"Laura Ingraham, host of both “The Ingraham Angle” and “The Ingraham Show,” posted a message
on Twitter yesterday saying that Pope Francis’s remarks in Ireland about clerical sexual abuse were insufficient.

Too little, too late from Pope Francis in Ireland,” she tweeted I stand with Archbishop Carlo Vigano. Time for the laity to demand a new Shepherd.”

Viganò also alleges that McCarrick, with Cardinals Maradiaga and Wuerl, orchestrated the promotions of Blase Cupich, now Cardinal Archbishop of Chicago, and Joseph Tobin, now Cardinal Archbishop of Newark, New Jersey.
He stated also, however, that Pope Francis had told him at their first meeting that American bishops “must not be ideologized”, neither “right-wing like the Archbishop of Philadelphia [Charles J. Chaput]” nor “left-wing...and when I say left-wing”--the Pope apparently explained-- “I mean homosexual.”

Ingraham is herself a Roman Catholic laywoman and described her conversion to the faith in her book Power to the People."

Papal Notes - Did Francis know about Pennsylvania cover-ups?

For My eyes are on all their ways;

Jeremiah 16:17

"The Vatican knew of a cover-up of child sex abuse by Roman
Catholic priests in Pennsylvania through secret archives that bishops in the state shared with church leaders in Rome, the state's attorney general Josh Shapiro said on Tuesday.

"There are specific examples where when
the abuse occurred, the priests would go, the bishops would go and lie to parishioners, lie to law enforcement, lie to the public, but then document all the abuse in secret archives that they would share oftentimes with the Vatican," Shapiro told CBS."

IN the NEWS - U.S. an outlier

Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing;
Revelation 3:17

"The world’s most committed Christians reside mostly in Africa, Latin America and the United States– the latter being an outlier among wealthy nations, according to a new Pew Research Center report.

Pew examined 84 countries with large Christian populations and asked self-identified Christians a series of questions to gauge their commitment to their faith. In 35 of those countries, “at least two-thirds of all Christians say religion is very important in their lives,” Pew reported Aug. 22. Among those 35, all but three countries reside in Africa or Latin America. The three exceptions are the United States, the Philippines and Malaysia
The data reflects the “broader pattern of Christianity’s ‘march southward’ from wealthy countries to developing ones,” the Pew report said.
The United States, though, is an “outlier” among wealthy countries in its commitment among self-identified Christians, with 68 percent saying religion is very important in their lives. Among European countries, it’s:
  • Greece, 58 percent.
  • Spain, 30 percent.
  • Italy, 23 percent.
  • France, 12 percent.
  • Germany, 12 percent.
  • United Kingdom, 11 percent.
Ethiopia has the world’s most committed Christians, according to Pew, with 98 percent saying their faith is very important. In the Philippines, it’s 91 percent." BCN

Creation Moment 8/29/2018 - Epigenetics & Dutch Hunger Winter

"Could skin, feather and fur colors have been more the result of epigenetic pre-programming activating after the Flood in animals and after Babel in humans, with those ‘switched-on’ genes then passed on to further generations by conventional genetics (transgenerational epigenetics)?
Could apparently significant differences in different species, otherwise very similar to each other, have been the result of epigenetic switching within the same kind, but in different environments?

During the European winter of 1944, Allied troops were pushing toward Germany. In Nazi-occupied
Holland, Dutch drivers went on strike to further hinder the German war effort. In retaliation, the Germans began a blockade of the Western Netherlands which, together with a severe winter, resulted in a period of catastrophic deprivation and starvation. The population was reduced to a diet of about a third of their needed daily calorie intake, resulting in approximately 20,000 deaths between November 1944 and May 1945 when the blockade was lifted. People were forced to eat grass and tulip bulbs, and were burning furniture for heat in order to stay alive. This period is known as the Dutch Hunger Winter. The iconic actress Audrey Hepburn was a teenager in Holland at the time. The ill health she suffered throughout her life was likely a result of the deprivations of these few months.

Babies who were in the first months of gestation during this period were found to have normal birth
weights, while more likely to suffer from obesity in their later years. Those exposed to starvation in the last months of gestation were found to be under the average weight at birth, and for the rest of their lives. They were less likely than the general population to be obese. Even more startling, these same characteristics seemed to also have passed on to the following generation, the grandchildren of the women starved during those six awful months.

*It was not likely that an environmental change could alter the sequences in their DNA code, which were still going to be the result of the combination of codes from their mother and father.
*So it must have been the way in which genes were expressed which had been altered by the environment, i.e. while the DNA sequence remained the same, certain genes were switched on or off as a result of outside, environmental stimuli. Scientists have identified the insulin-like growth factor II (a protein coded for by the IGF2 gene) as playing an important role in this.

A new discipline was born, the study of epigenetics (over, or above genetics).

Studies on bison bones found in permafrost in a Canadian gold mine indicated that epigenetic changes in the bison population enabled them to adapt rapidly to changes in climate. These are
changes far too rapid for traditional Darwinian models of natural selection to explain. “The bones play a key role in a world-first study, led by University of Adelaide researchers, which analyses special genetic modifications that turn genes on and off, without altering the DNA sequence itself. These ‘epigenetic’ changes can occur rapidly between generations—without requiring the time for standard evolutionary processes.”

Scientists conducting experiments on agouti mice found that by manipulating nutrition they could switch off a certain gene. When the gene is active (‘on’) the mice are normally obese and a yellowish color; by switching the gene off the mice are of a normal, slim appearance, and brown. By feeding a combination of nutrients including vitamin B12 to the mother before mating, the gene was able to be turned off in the babies."

 * "works" means God's Law & a changed heart--not man made rules & regulations...

shew me thy faith without thy works,
and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

IN the NEWS - When Evil Men Run Health Care

"A Canadian man, Roger Foley, with a degenerative brain condition is suing a hospital, two
healthcare agencies, and both the Ontario and Canadian governments for denying his right to “assisted life.” Foley claims health officials have “refused his request to live at home and be in charge of directing his own care.” Instead, he’s been offered euthanasia—doctor-assisted suicide (or, really, doctor-assisted murder!)—on more than one occasion.

Foley says he does not want his life ended but, rather, would like to be able to go home from the hospital and direct his care from there. But, rather than being supported in this decision, he claims health officials have been negligent in his care and have suggested he choose the cheaper option (yes, money was even specifically mentioned at one point)—euthanasia!

While euthanasia advocates have assured us over the years that abuses like this won’t happen, they apparently do and will only continue to occur as our western culture embraces death rather than life.

The Bible presents quite the opposite view. In a biblical worldview, we’re created in the very image of God (So God created man in his own image, ...Genesis 1:27). We have unique value and worth not because of our abilities, level of dependency, health, or any other subjective standard. We have unique value because we’re image bearers of the Creator. And taking the life of an image bearer is murder—and it’s serious."

On the Streets of Babylon: Fruit Bombing the Streets

Babylon is fallen, is fallen,...
Come out of her, my people,
Revelation 14:8/18:4
There seems to be some "Fruit Bombs" dropping on the Streets of Babylon....

"Nadia Bolz-Weber retired from her pastorate at the House for All Sinners and Saints (ELCA) and was replaced by a gay Episcopal man who is married to a drag queen who goes by the name “Fruit Bomb.” This is not satire.

Bolz-Weber is the giant Amazon-esque, tattoo-graffiti’d, potty-mouthed impastor who has referred to herself as a “dyke” (she is married to a man, however). She is growing in popularity among the pagan world (who she refers to as a “secular” audience) and has successfully used her ordination credentials with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) to bolster herself as a spokesman for a new kind of Christianity that is more or less divorced from any concept of Christian holiness.

Her replacement is the Rev. Reagan Humber, who is not Lutheran, but Episcopal. Apparently doctrine doesn’t matter much ... Humber from St. Gregory of Nyssa Episcopal Church in San Francisco. He is “married” to a man who pretends to be a woman and is a “drag queen.” His partner’s drag name is “Fruit Bomb.”

The new ‘pastor’ said:
Sure, we’re going to screw some things up. But when we screw things up and then still come back the next week, that’s where the grace happens. That’s when church gets real and the dead are raised." Pulpit&Pen

Seeking Wisdom Simplified

*The true, earnest seeker will give up his way for God's ways,
that he may be guided into paths wherein God may choose to lead him, .... “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isa. 55:8, 9. (EGW 1888 Materials, p. 279, 280)."

Creation Moment 8/28/2018 - "Lazy" & Evolution

"Evolution might favor ‘survival of the laziest’ (Science Daily). So malleable is Darwin’s Stuff Happens Law (i.e., “whatever happens, it evolved”), anything can count as ‘fitness,’ even laziness. Look how this article begins: “If you’ve got an unemployed, 30-year-old adult child still living in the basement, fear not.” Whoever wrote this has just given slackers a new excuse for irresponsibility: ‘Darwin made me this way.’ According to champion Darwin storytellers at the University of Kansas, lazy slackers are just as fit as cheetahs, peregrine falcons and pronghorns— maybe more so!

Maybe in the long term the best evolutionary strategy for animals is to be lassitudinous and sluggish — the lower the metabolic rate, the more likely the species you belong to will survive,” Lieberman said. “Instead of ‘survival of the fittest,’ maybe a better metaphor for the history of life is ‘survival of the laziest’ or at least ‘survival of the sluggish.'”
Laziness May Have Driven Homo Erectus to Extinction (Live Science). This article illustrates how Darwinians can use their vacuous theory to ‘explain’ opposite things. We just heard one argue for survival of the laziest, and now another argues for extinction of the laziest. Stuff happens! What kind of ‘law of nature’ is this? A house divided against itself cannot stand. Can we laugh out loud at this writer’s folly, or will that risk arrest by the Darwin enforcers?
It turns out laziness existed long before couches and takeout. The “why bother?” attitude not only existed hundreds of thousands of years ago, but may also have led to the decline of an ancient human ancestor.
The illogic of this explanation presents itself if you ask the question, “Did natural selection make Homo erectus lazy, or did they choose laziness by intelligent design and free will?”
---If the former, then natural selection not only evolved extinction (the opposite of survival); it also evolved the lazy reporter who believes it.
---If the latter, then how could natural selection come up with its opposite, intelligent design?" CEH

Presumption vs. Faith

Q: What was the difference between the Israelites vs. the Egyptians in entering the Red Sea?

A: One was by Obedience by Faith and one by Presumption.

* The Israelites went into the Red Sea because God said to.They went by Faith.
* The Egyptians went in by Presumption. They ventured where God had not instructed them and as a result they were overwhelmed by the waters.

SUMMARY:

Papal Notes - ?

Ye have wearied the LORD with your words.
Yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him?
When ye say,
Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the LORD,
and he delighteth in them;
Malachi 2:7

"Just hours after Pope Francis condemned the “repugnant crimes” of sexual abuse by clergy during his two-day trip to Ireland, news broke in the United States that a former papal ambassador to the country is accusing Pope Francis of having known about abuse allegations against former Cardinal
Theodore McCarrick and failing to act.
Vigano made the claims in a lengthy statement that concludes with a call for Francis' resignation: "In this extremely dramatic moment for the universal Church, he must acknowledge his mistakes and, in keeping with the proclaimed principle of zero tolerance, Pope Francis must be the first to set a good example to Cardinals and Bishops who covered up McCarrick's abuses and resign along with all of them," he writes.

Vigano, who retired in 2016 at age 75, described an exchange with Francis on June 23, 2013, shortly after he became pope, about Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the former archbishop of Washington, D.C., who resigned last month over claims he sexually abused seminary students and an altar boy.
Vigano writes that he told Francis about the allegations: "Holy Father, I don't know if you know
Cardinal McCarrick, but if you ask the Congregation for Bishops there is a dossier this thick about him. He corrupted generations of seminarians and priests and Pope Benedict ordered him to withdraw to a life of prayer and penance."
Vigano writes the pope did not respond to the statement, and McCarrick continued in his role as a public figure for the church." CBS/CRUX

Jordan Peterson on the Bible

Jordan Peterson, (Canadian leading psychological researcher) while not yet a Christian, has been exploring Christianity and has been riveted by it....
He writes, The Bible is, for better or worse, the foundational
document of western civilization…Its careful, respectful study can reveal things to us about what we believe and how we do and should act that can be discovered in almost no other manner.”

Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;
3 John 1:5

Why Peterson might MIss God

Although Dr. Jordan Peterson says a lot of common sense things about social, cultural and political issues---he may MISS GOD when it comes to religion. He recently has been delving more into Christianity and the Bible--though not quite a full believer.

To be fair, he seems to have some good observations to specifics of Bible stories. Yet he misses the mark on the big picture.

2 Reasons Jordan Peterson might MISS GOD
as he delves into religion:
1) He still has his academic BLINDERS on as he approaches Christianity.
When he deconstructs cultural, social and political nonsense of the world with that approach--that's
fine because those are man made constructs of the very nature he is using to deconstruct.
But when he approaches religion in the same way--this works as BLINDERS. God is NOT a construct and therefore can't be deconstructed. He is the Great I Am.
Christianity can't be reduced to a litany of requests for definitions at every turn. This is the point for childlike faith.
2) Darwinian Macro-Evolution & Long Age Chronology:
Peterson still stubbornly holds to the BLINDERS of evolution & long age chronology. As long as he accepts the dogma of the scientifically impossible (macro-evolution) he will always be BLINDED to some degree and MISS GOD.
SUMMARY:
It seems that Dr. Peterson is getting flashes of LIGHT from delving into the Bible, yet he keeps MISSING the POINT of it all and could MISS GOD in the pages of Scripture.
I am Alpha and Omega,
 the beginning and the end,
the first and the last.

Gleanings from the Story of Enoch

"First, then, what does Enoch’s walking with God imply?
Paul helps us in our first observation upon this by his note in the Hebrews.
His walk with God was a testimony that Enoch was well-pleasing to God.
Before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. Hebrews 11:6
Walking together implies amity, friendship, intimacy, love,
and these cannot exist between God and the soul unless the man is acceptable to the Lord.
secondly, what circumstances were connected with his remarkable life?
He was prominent at a time when sin was beginning to cover the earth,
not very long before the earth was corrupt and God saw fit
to sweep the whole population from off its surface on account of sin.
Enoch lived in a day of mockers and despisers.
You know that from his prophecy, as recorded by Jude.
He prophesied, saying,
The Lord comes with ten thousands of his saints,
to execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly
among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed,
and of all their harsh speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
Jude 1:14,15
thirdly, what was its conclusion?
It is said of him that God took him.
Genesis 5:24
A very remarkable expression.
Perhaps he did it in some visible manner.
Perhaps all of the patriarchs saw him depart
even as the apostles were present when our Lord was taken up."

Plato Echoing Lucifer

And the serpent said unto the woman, You shall not surely die:
Genesis 3:4
Plato Echoing Lucifer....and this FALSE DOCTRINE entered into Christendom...
"According to Plato, all things were not directly framed and regulated by the Supreme Divinity. ...
This guiding spirit, or demiurge, was a mixture of the ideal and the natural. The world, he taught, was not made from nothing, that is, not created, but formed from eternally existing matter.

But the fatal defect in his philosophy was the position he took concerning the mind, and its relation to the body and to the whole universe. He held that the mind or soul holds the same relation to the body that God does to the world.

The pre-existence of souls was a cardinal point in his philosophy, ...Like the Mormons, he held that not only men, but plants and all inanimate objects also, have souls, which existed prior to themselves. Thus, Prof. W. S. Tyler, of Amherst College, says:--

"There is no doctrine on which Plato more frequently or more strenuously insists than this,--that soul is not only superior to body, but prior to it in order of time, and that not merely as it exists in the being of God, but in every order of existence. The soul of the world existed first, and then it was clothed with a material body. The souls which animate the sun, moon, and stars, existed before the bodies which they inhabit. The pre-existence of human souls is one of the arguments on which he relies to prove their immortality."

And that was the only means by which he could prove the immortality of the soul...Christians who adopt from Plato the doctrine of the natural immortality of the soul, have conveniently lost sight of the absurd and atheistical doctrine on which it rests. Some of the most eminent of the "Church Fathers," however, and especially Origen, accepted without question all the vagaries of Plato concerning the pre-existence of souls.

This theory was the logical outcome of his theory of the pre-existence of souls. In their pre-existent state, as a part of God, they knew all things; in coming into bodies, that knowledge was concealed; it was as though they had been stunned; still the knowledge was there, and the mind could of itself determine truth or error. Thus the mind of man is, according to Plato, the criterion to determine right and wrong. "It is the lord of itself and of all the world besides."

One should have no other gods, whether the bottle or a man...even "Saint"-to-be Talbot....poor Talbot,
--chained to the bottle,
-finally freed of it,
--only to be chained by penance of literal chains later in life.....

"In 1925, a man by the name of Matt Talbot died, his body
discovered with chains around his waist, arms and legs that he wore as a sign of penance, after living part of his life “in sin:” From the young age of 12 until he turned 28, Talbot had a drinking problem.

Even though he hasn’t yet been recognized as a saint, he’s known as the patron of those with a drinking problem and he’s commemorated on June 19.

Today the Dubliner is on his path to official sainthood, and on Saturday Pope Francis will pay tribute to Talbot, who was declared venerable by Paul VI in 1975.
The homage is in many ways fulfilling a promise made by the last pope to set foot in the Emerald Island.

Pope John Paul II in 1979 was supposed to stop by Talbot’s old parish as he passed by with the
pope-mobile, but he was running behind schedule and the stop never happened, to the great disappointment of the local parish community that had been waiting for him.

Today, hundreds are expected to turn out to see Pope Francis when he stops at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes on his way to the pro-cathedral of St. Mary in Dublin. The pontiff will change into the pope-mobile after spending some 10 minutes in the church.

After sobering up Talbot lived a life of prayer, fasting and service, trying to model himself on sixth-century Irish monks. In 1890 he became a Third Order Franciscan, and began wearing a light chain as a form of penance.
Talbot died on his way to Mass on June 7, 1925, collapsing in the street of heart failure. Many came to his funeral a few days later. In 1972, his remains were moved to the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Dublin, in the area where he spent his life." CRUX

I wish above all things that thou mayest ...be in health...
3 John 1:2
"When the appetite for spirituous liquor is indulged, the man voluntarily places to his lips the draft which debases below the level of the brute him who was made in the image of God."

"The involuntary shaking associated with alcohol withdrawal will typically be seen in those who have a long history of alcohol abuse or chronic struggles with alcohol addiction.

Alcohol withdrawal symptoms, including shaking, are typically strongest 24 to 72 hours after the person had their last drink.
According to the Practical Neurology journal, frequent and excessive alcohol consumption can also damage the cerebellum, an area of the brain located near the top of the brain stem that regulates balance, coordination and fine motor movement.

Alcohol-related damage to the cerebellum can result in what’s known as an intention tremor. An intention tremor is a certain type of trembling that is most noticeable when a person makes purposeful or goal-oriented movement toward an object, but the tremor may also be present at rest.

Tremors and other symptoms of alcohol withdrawal can occur as soon as six hours after someone last had a drink. That’s why some alcoholics wake up shaky in the morning and need a drink to feel steady.

Shaking from alcohol withdrawal may also occur because alcohol abuse has changed your nerve cells. Alcohol exerts its depressant effects by reducing activity in the brain, and the brain becomes neurologically accustomed to this consistently lower level of stimulation as you maintain heavy or frequent drinking habits. Then, when you stop drinking, your brain is flooded with more activity than it is ready for, leading to nervous system hyperactivity symptoms like trembling or tremors.

About 5% of people who undergo alcohol withdrawal develop a serious condition called delirium tremens (or DTs), a neurologic disorder that can give rise to hallucinations, mental confusion, disorientation, as well as whole-body tremors. This form of withdrawal reaction generally starts 2 to 4 days after the last drink, although it can take as long as 10 days to develop.
If you are a heavy drinker and you are shaking for 2 days or more after a night of drinking, or every morning after you drink, you might be experiencing delirium tremens, also known as DTs. If these symptoms persist for a day or two it is important that you find a professional alcohol detox center immediately.
Unmonitored detox from alcohol can be fatal.
Alcoholism can also lead to liver disease, which, in its advanced stages, can cause a characteristic flapping or shaking of the hands known as asterixis.

These are the two defining characteristics of an Alcohol Misuse Disorder:
  1. You have difficulty controlling how much alcohol you drink. For example, once you start to drink, one drink leads to more drinks, and the next day you realize you drank more than you would have liked.
  2. You continue to drink even though it has negative consequences to your life. For example, drinking has hurt your relationships, but you continue to drink.
