Nimrod & Semiramis: Birth of Paganism
"Throughout history the practice and horrors of sun worship have reached every region of the world. The Babylonians called the sun-god Shamash; the Egyptians, Ra; the Assyrians, Baal; the Canaanites, Moloch; the Persians, Mithras; the Greeks, Helios; the Druids, Hu; and the Romans, Sol Invictus (the Unconquerable Sun). The list continues down through history and encompasses cultures as diverse as the Hindus, the Japanese, and the Aztecs and comes as close to home as virtually every native tribe in North America. Most scholars trace the beginnings of sun worship to Babylon.
Babylon, the first metropolis, was founded by Nimrod soon after the flood...
At first Nimrod had been only a hunter but in the passing of time his escapades became the stuff of legend among his followers. Fewer recitations of his mighty exploits elevated his status to superhuman proportions, and the rapidly expanding society at his feet finally began to not only honor him as their king, but to worship him as their god.
Nimrod's arrogance was ultimately surpassed only by that of his wife, Semiramis. Notoriously beautiful and cunning beyond imagination, she wielded her own power with an iron hand. Like Nimrod, Semiramis was deified by the common people. To the superstitious minds of a race that had separated itself from worship of the one true God, Nimrod and Semiramis in their terrible strength and beauty were exalted as the sun and moon in human form.
Though historical accounts of Nimrod's actual death are vague, it is certain that he left Semiramis with a large dominion and an equally large dilemma. How was she to maintain her hold on the empire he had built? There was but one solution, and she pursued it with diabolical zeal. Nimrod's spirit had
ascended into the sun itself, she claimed. With breathtaking eloquence she described to the people his new and elevated role as their benefactor and protector. Each morning he would rise, bringing light and life to the land as he traveled across the sky. In the evening he would plunge below the edge of the earth to battle the subterranean evil spirits and demons that would otherwise crawl over and annihilate mankind. At times the battle would be bloody, and the red-streaked sky bore witness to the fray. Each morning the people were to lay their offerings before the rising sun and worship it as their departed leader and victorious protector. The plan was only too successful. As generations passed, religious leaders began to add doctrines and ceremonies to sun worship. Her counterpart in Egypt was Isis, wife and sister of Osiris and mother of Horus. Rabbits and eggs were both symbols of life and fecundity that early came to be identified with Ishtar. The cakes to the queen of heaven became hot cross buns, and the disgraceful fertility rites of Ishtar evolved into the celebration of Easter. (Incidentally, Easter is still a movable festival that finds its date each year from the cycles of the moon. It is always celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox.)
During autumn, the season of decay, spirits of the dead were believed to be hovering nearby. If they were not prayed for and provided with adequate food and shelter, the people feared they would remain and haunt them with misfortune. In other words, "trick or treat." Today we are left with All Soul's Day—the evening before is called Eve of All Hallows, or more commonly, Halloween.
St. Valentine's Day is what remains of Lupercalia, an early spring purification rite in which the
priests would run through the streets with whips made from strips of goatskin. With these whips they would strike women, insuring them of fertility for the coming year. Matchmaking between young people would occur later in the day by random selection of names. The goatskin whips evolved into little arrows shot by Cupid...
When Satan failed to destroy the church by violence, he resorted to a new strategy—he would join the church himself and corrupt it from within. This proved to be a far more successful plan. So we must ask, "Is there anything wrong with commemorating the birth and resurrection of Jesus?" Of course not. These events are filled with deep meaning for every true Christian. The only problem
is that neither the Bible nor history has preserved the dates of these events for us. Consequently, there is no biblical command to observe them on any particular day of the year.
But now how about Sunday keeping—isn't that a legitimate commemoration of Christ's resurrection? Ah! ...Sunday observance is the fox that slipped into the chicken coop along with the pigeons.
Sunday keeping is the one remnant of paganism that is placed in direct opposition to God's authority.
The Sabbath is a sacred memorial of the creative power which distinguishes God from all false deities. God has always required His people to put a difference between the sacred and the profane, between the holy and the common. Satan has unceasingly sought to blur this distinction. His final goal is to make sin appear righteous, and righteousness to appear profane. Has he succeeded? Look at modern Christianity and decide for yourself."

"If there was ever a coherent theory of how the earth got its oceans, it’s gone. The new reading of meteorites forbids it. Now, inventors of solar system models have to go back to square one. Whatever they come up with is bound to take more heat.
Because the early earth was pictured to be molten with volcanoes going off and meteors hitting
repeatedly, cosmogonists were forced into thinking that water arrived later. The ‘late veneer’ theory (which we call the ‘water balloon’ theory) claimed that the oceans were late arrivals, the water being delivered by comets and meteorites after things cooled down a bit.
For empirical support, they appealed to elements in chondritic meteorites, believing that elements embedded in the stones can act as “fingerprints” of conditions at the time of their formation. A new paper in Nature, however, claims that stable isotopes of ruthenium falsify the late veneer theory: “these data refute an outer Solar System origin for the late veneer and imply that the late veneer was not the primary source of volatiles and water on the Earth.” Moreover, these isotopes don’t match those in earth’s crust.

"Around the year 1900 a revival took place in the state of Indiana that many contemporaries considered as a special outpouring of the Pentecostal power of the Holy Spirit. However, quite a number of Adventists, including Ellen White, were disturbed and shocked from what the saw or heard. In emotionally charged, out of control worship services people were yelling prayers and praises accompanied by erratic playing of musical instruments. She viewed it as a counterfeit revival and throughout the years many Adventists were afraid of new worship and music choices since she had predicted a resurgence of these elements in the Seventh-day Adventist Church near the close of probation.Ellen White nicknamed the movement “Holy Flesh movement” whereas its advocates called it “the cleansing message.” She warned not to pick up any points of that doctrine and call it truth. The presenter, Katrina Blue, pointed out that while White’s response to the movement is well documented, the arguments and views of its proponents, especially of its main leaders (S. S. Davis and R. S. Donnell), have been shrouded due to a lack of primary source material. It was not until 2010, when the estate of the deceased William Grotheer (who had owned such primary sources for many decades but consistently refused to allow anyone access to these documents) forwarded these materials to the Center for Adventist Research at Andrews University, that primiary sources became available. Blue stated that it was the purpose of her presentation to provide an overview and to analyze these newly-found primary sources.

S. S. Davis was the principal instigator of the movement. As a worker in Indiana he participated in

However, eyewitnesses described divisions in the church, a widespread confusion, false teachings, and people being carried off to an insane asylum. Through the use of musical instruments they worked up a high pitch of excitement. They shouted, prayed, and sang until someone in the congregation prostrated from his seat. That person was then dragged to the rostrum and there a group of people gathering around the individual started to sing, shout, and prayed, all at the same time. When the individual regained consciousness, he was reckoned among those who had experienced Gethsemane, received holy flesh and translation faith. It was claimed that they could not sin and would never die.The most extensive accounts stem from the Muncie camp meeting, which Donnell did not even consider as powerful as the other meetings. Hetty and S. N. Haskell had written to Ellen White who was in Australia at the time. They had witnessed a divisive impact of the movement although they admitted that the conference had grown through the influence of this movement. And while the Haskell’s admitted that the movement was accompanied by a “great power,” they attributed it to the devil. They had witnessed how people had become insane during those meetings and had to be carried off to the insane asylum. G. A. Roberts, another eyewitness, had seen how Donnell’s arms became fixed and rigid when holding them out over the congregation. Roberts recollected Donnell’s own report of feeling great power run through his arms and pass through his fingers to the congregation.

“The Two Adams and the Two Covenants”
In this publication Davis laid down his main thesis about the two covenants. The old covenant began before the fall, was broken by Adam, and renewed at Mt. Sinai, representing all unsuccessful attempts to keep the law in the sinful flesh. The new covenant began with Adam after his fall and centered on the indwelling of Christ’s life in the human heart by faith, resulting in the ability to sin no more and thereby achieving the state necessary for translation at Christ’s Second Coming. Davis believed that at the end of time everyone who wants to be saved must achieve this state of sinless perfection. Thus since the beginning there were two classes of people—those that were controlled by the flesh and Satan, and those that had control of the flesh and were under the control of Christ.Davis suggested that Adam’s mind was simply an extension for God’s mind. Thus Adam was the instrument through which God carried out his will and purposes on earth. The Spirit would, by the electric current, control man’s thoughts and speak to him and through him. He eventually concluded that in the Garden of Eden the animals came to worship humans.
Davis’ treatise presents a weak concept of the free will of humans, both before and after the fall, when compared with the traditional and modern Adventist advocacy of a free will. Davis presented humans either as conduits for God prior to the fall or as conduits for Satan after the fall.

“The Nature of Christ and Man”
Donnell took this co-joint rulership of humanity a step further. His document was a letter that he sent to Davis some years after the events. Donnell stated that when Adam sinned, he lost the nature that God had given him and received the nature and mind of Satan. Sanctification was God’s work of restoring the spiritual nature in humans and cleansing them from all sin. He also suggested that Christ lived his earthly life in order to demonstrate what humans could become when they receive the divine mind. Donnell made the striking statement that God wants to make Gods out of us so that we cannot be even tempted to sin. Donnell went even further by claiming that humans through Christ’s indwelling in them would become members of the Godhead.
Ellen White’s Response
Ellen White was clear that the creation of a “din of noise” was not in harmony with the Holy Spirit’s working. Therefore the Holy Flesh movement was, as Blue pointed out, a combination of

*unorthodox practices,

* First, SMOKE (which represents God) passed through the blood path.
Second, FIRE (which represents God) passed back through rather than Abraham.
Notice- God went through the blood path first, and instead of letting Abraham walk through, He walked through again. This symbolizes that God would take Abraham (and our) place in this blood covenant when we sin.

How about the invasion of extra-biblical experiences? For example, what about getting drunk in the “Spirit” or barking like a dog because of the “transferrable anointing”? 2) He misses the point that Christ rose on the "first day of the week" because even in death, He rested on the Sabbath then rose to continue His work.
3) Christ DID NOT grant authority to the Catholic Church, or any other institution, or man, to change His Holy Law (by transferring the solemnity of the 7th day to the first).
4) Clearly the Catholic apologist is "thinking" to change the Law of God, which happens to deal with "times"....the Sabbath
