Formula for Weeds

The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about,

God’s Object Lesson of Jonah

"God’s object lesson: 

--He caused a plant to grow to give shade to Jonah as he sat hoping

for Nineveh’s destruction to happen after all. 

--Then He caused a worm to gnaw at it so it died. 

--When Jonah was unreasonably angry about the plant withering away, God compared Jonah’s pity for the plant to His pity for the immeasurably greater loss Nineveh’s destruction would entail: “more than 120,000 persons who do not know their right hand from their left, and also much cattle” (Jonah 4:11).

The ending of Jonah feels unresolved: God’s question, “Should I not pity Nineveh?” is unanswered, confronting each of us. 

There are many people today who have yet to hear the Gospel, and as Jonah was commanded to go, we have also been commanded to carry the Gospel into the whole world....our compassion for the unsaved should prompt us to be obedient to the Great Commission." CMI

Lesson of the Men of Nineveh

The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah...
Matthew 12:41

"The Men of Nineveh --- sober warning to God’s people today.
If we do not repent and consecrate our lives to God, the men of Nineveh will condemn us on the day of Judgment."

Jonah & Mountains

Mountains Under The Seas:"Jonah, who lived close to 3000 years ago spoke of going down to the "bottoms of the mountains".  His prayer from the stomach of the fish included the words

For You had cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the current engulfed me. All Your breakers and billows passed over me.... Water encompassed me to the point of death. The great deep engulfed me, Weeds were wrapped around my head. I descended to the roots of the mountains. The earth with its bars was around me forever, But You have brought up my life from the pit, O Lord my God. (Jonah 2:3, 5-6 NASB)

Only in recent history has man discovered that there are mountains on the ocean floor. The tropical Revillagigedos Islands are the visible peaks of a underwater mountain chain-known as the Eastern Pacific Rise, that stretches all the way to Antarctica. The deepest part of Mariana's Trench, east of the Mariana Islands, has been measured at 35,798 feet below sea level.

Mount Everest is only 29,035 feet high."
