Second Council of Nice & "that woman Jezebel"

"Revelation 2:20 ...because you suffer that woman Jezebel, which calls her self a prophetess. 

In the history of ancient Israel, Jezebel is that heathen woman whom king Ahab married; and who brought with her her heathen worship and practices: and above all, sun-worship. 

However, it was not enough for her to bring along her heathen then worship and her god: she would supplant all the worship of God, and even God himself, by compelling all the people to worship the sun in the Baalim that she introduced. This she did so thoroughly by her persecuting power, that in all Israel there were but “seven thousand who had not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.” 1 Kings 19:18. 

And even these were so scattered and concealed that the prophet Elijah thought that he alone was left, as they sought his life to take it away. 

--Exactly corresponding to this fourth phase of the Church, in the course of the Seven Churches, is the Fourth Seal in the series of the Seven Seals. 

For it is written: Revelation 6:5-8 And when he had opened the Fourth Seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth. 

And that this was the slaughter of the saints of God is made plain by the very next verse: 9And when he had opened the Fifth Seal, I saw under the al tar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held.  This fixes upon the Papacy the application, in the Christian dispensation, of the phrase “that woman Jezebel."

In the reign of the original Jezebel, when the king charged Elijah with being “he that troubles Israel,” the prophet replied, 1 Kings 18:18 I have not troubled Israel, but you, and thy father’s house, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and you have followed Baalim. 

The ancient Jezebel caused the people not only to forsake the commandments of God, but to do honor to idols. And she not only caused them to forsake the commandments of God, and to do honor to idols, but to do honor also to the sun. 

So it was with the modern Jezebel: In the making of the Papacy, idolatry—image-worship—was introduced, and grew until it became universal in the Church. 

And when in the seventh century an effort was made to abandon it, the Church of Rome, under Pope Gregory II and his successors, defended the images and their worship, and maintained their cause until the seventh general Council, September 24 to October 23, 787, the Second Council of Nice, by a decree confirmed image worship, and established it as a legitimate part of Catholic worship."

The Jezebel Analogy

"She (Jezebel) soon dominated the king and ruled in the kingdom.

And when the evil that she would do was more than the king could have the heart to compass, she would do it herself in the king’s name and by the power of the kingdom and would be merry in it all. 1 Kings 21:5-16. 

---She would make her religion to be the religion of the kingdom and of every soul in the kingdom. 

She brought with her eight hundred and fifty “prophets” of her religion. She was the personal patron of them all. They all “ate at Jezebel’s table.” 1 Kings 18:19. 

---She deliberately set herself to abolish all the religion and all the worship of God, and to establish solely her own in all the kingdom. She systematically broke down all the altars of the worship of God in the land. She compelled all to conform to her form of sun-worship. 

1 Kings 19:10, 14. 

And whosoever would not do this in some way—by sacrificing, by bowing the knee in a genuflexion, or by kissing the hand to throw a kiss to Baal—was outlawed and had to find refuge in dens and holes and caves of the earth. 1 Kings 18:4, 13. 

---So thorough-going was she in this that though there were seven thousand persons who would worship God only, and serve Him alone, they were so scattered and hunted that each one thought that he was the only one left.

In the Scriptures there is another Jezebel. 

She is described in the book of Revelation. 

Her career is in Christian times. Revelation 2:20-29. 

Among the people of Christ who had left their first love and had

fallen away from the true Way and pure worship of God, there came in heathen sun-worshipers bringing with them all their native characters and dispositions and ways. There were so many of these that they became a heathen sun-worshiping church professing the Christian name. 

---This sun-worshiping church secured an alliance with the imperial Roman State.

---She would make her heathen naturalistic religion to be the religion of every kingdom and of everybody in all the kingdoms. 

---She set herself against all the true worship of God. She compelled all to conform to her worship, which was but a form of heathen sun-worship with the Sun day the grand token as “queen and chief of all the days.”
And here, by “that woman Jezebel,” “the beast,” the ultimate Antichrist accomplishes the crowning work of iniquity. 

This is brought about in the following way: It is to the people of God that there remains the “keeping of a Sabbath.” 

It was made for the man of God’s eternal purpose. 

And none but those who are the people of God in this purpose can possibly keep the Sabbath. 

And now in this time of the ultimate Antichrist he doubles up on his abominations by making both Sabbath and Sunday to be days of enforced idleness and of consequent mischief and iniquity. In this course of abomination there is yet another step to finish the mystery of iniquity.

That woman Jezebel undertakes to require her Sun day as a day of rest of all from all work and from every honest occupation, for worship. 

---Through the power of the State she makes this compulsory upon all. Thus by means of denominational, national, international, and world federation, with its “pressure” upon city, county, State and National authorities, enforcing a day of universal idleness as the means and necessity of enforcing the universal false religion and worship of the beast and his image, the ultimate Antichrist is enabled to bring all to the full reflection of his own image, and so to finish the mystery of iniquity."

Gleanings from Jezebel’s Name

And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? 

arise, and eat bread, and let thine heart be merry: 

I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.

"In the Old Testament Jezebel’s name is mentioned many times in the book of 1-2 Kings. It means “Baal exalts”.

The Greek word for Jezebel in the NT is a derivation of her name in Hebrew but with a twist.... Her name in the NT means “chaste.”

Jezebel’s name ends in “bel” which is a reference to Baal which was

associated with devil worship, hence the meaning of her name in the OT “Baal exalts.” 

 An example of “bel” as part of a name associated with the devil is “Beelzebub” and “Belial.” Jezebel’s name means chaste but with a satanic taint to it. 

There is a godly chastity that promotes godly fruit of character, to be pure, quiet, reserved and submissive (Ephesians 5:22-23). 

And there is a satanic chastity, to be outwardly quiet, reserved, not seeking to be the main attention in public, but secretly be working behind the scenes using smokescreens to be in control for your own selfish self-exalted desires which in turn produces corrupt and bad fruit.

The Spirit of Jezebel is determined, and molds the character of the weak husband. In the public eye however, Ahab is the one commanding giving orders. Jezebel is quiet in the background being a “good wife” in the eyes of the people, and Ahab seems to them like a good leader. But in reality, in the private life, Ahab is weak and Jezebel is the one in charge using Ahab and the prophets of Baal to do her bidding which produced bad fruit and death to those who worshiped God.

Jezebel professes to be a prophetess and seduces the servants of God (Revelation 2:20). 

Q:  How does she do this? 

A:  By being chaste and discrete on the outside appearing to be godly but using whomever she can to be her tool and work behind the scenes to achieve her selfish goals. Jesus says by their fruits ye shall know them, and the spirit of Jezebel will be known by the fruits he or she produces."

Jezebel of the 7 Churches and that "Space to Repent"

Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.

"....no bet­ter symbol could be used than the pagan queen Jezebel to represent the Church of Rome during the 1260-year period of Thyatira, for all the kings of the Holy Roman Empire committed fornication with her in supporting the union of church and state. 

God gave Jezebel time to repent of her un­holy alliance with the state, but she would not; hence, when we reach the churches of Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea, there is no mention made of the papal church, whose probation ended as a church, and who was, his­torically, an organization wounded to death in 1798 A. D. 

Thyatira is the true church in the wilderness. Jezebel, the papal church, through seduction caused some of her doctrines to be taught in Thyatira, such as the immor­tality of the soul...." MinistryMagazine 1935

Extrapolating from Jezebel

"Now, to the Church in her fourth phase the Head of the Church writes: "I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols." (Rev. 2:20)

The original Jezebel was that heathen woman of Phonecia, the daughter of Ethbaal, king of Tyre, who was married to Ahab, king of Israel; and who brought with her into Israel her idolatrous worship — which was but a worship of the sun, under the forms of Baal and Ashtaroth, or Astarte.
She brought with her also four hundred and fifty priests of Baal and four hundred of Ashtaroth, — eight hundred and fifty in all.
This original Jezebel caused King Ahab to be worse than he otherwise would have been, as it is written: "There was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the Lord, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up." (1 Kings 21:25)

And now this Jezebel is cited by the Lord as the illustration of the corrupt, deceiving, destroying power that worked against His Church in her fourth phase.
It has been pointed out and made plain, that it was in the time of the third phase of the true Church that the papacy was formed.
It is therefore certain that this warning to the true Church in the fourth phase of her experience, against the seductions of "that woman Jezebel," has direct reference to the workings of the papacy in the period following the formation and establishment of the papacy.

The two things especially singled out by Christ in His letter to His Church, concerning which He warns against the seductions of this Jezebel,
---are fornication,
---and the honoring of idols.

*And we have seen how that the continuous war of the papacy upon marriage — directly, the marriage of the clergy; and thus indirectly the marriage of all — filled Europe with fornication.
*We have also seen how that by a war of more than a hundred years, the papacy established the use of images, and, therefore, of idolatry, as an essential part of Christian worship.

---Another specification concerning "that woman Jezebel" is that she "calleth herself a prophetess." A prophet or prophetess is a spokesman, or mouthpiece for God: one especially commissioned to speak the words of God." (Ex. 4:15, 16; 7:1; Deut. 18:18)
*This is precisely the claim of the papacy: that she alone is the interpreter of the Scriptures, the infallible channel of the divine will to men.

That characteristic of the original Jezebel, manifested in her ruling the king and stirring him up to do more than the usual evil of kings, and more than he would otherwise have done, is seen displayed throughout the whole course of the papacy after her establishment as a world-power; and is specifically fastened upon her by the Scripture in describing her as "the woman . . . which reigneth over the kings of the earth." (Rev. 17:18)."

@ Like Jezebel of old, who formed an alliance with a King (Ahab) so too does the Whore of Revelation, the Jezebel of Revelation, the 1st beast of Revelation, form an alliance with a political entity-the 2nd beast of Revelation.

@ Like Jezebel of old, who persecuted the people of God, so too has the Jezebel of Revelation persecuted God's people through the ages & again at the end.

@ Like Jezebel of old, hunted Elijah to silence his message, so too will modern Jezebel hunt down the end the end time bearers of the "Elijah Message".

Why Eat At The Table of Jezebel?

Why eat from the table of Jezebel?....why eat from a table set by those who engage in Mariology / idolatry, believe in the paganisitc concept of the immortality of the soul, Sunday sacredness,  Papal infallibility, cast the Sanctuary to the ground (via mass, confessions to a "father" & last rights), take scissors to the Law of God (cutting out the 2nd commandment, slashing the 4th to one line & splitting the 10th into 2) & teach the myth of purgatory as well as compromising on Genesis 1 &2 by promoting theistic evolution?
And of course, that table extends with that of the daughters of Jezebel - set with the false doctrine of the secret rapture, false speaking in tongues, cheap grace, the prosperity gospel, self-help pop-psychology, women ordination, gay ordination, celebration services, etc.

We see this with some of our SDA academics & leaders today, especially in California & the North American Division as well as in Europe who eat from the wrong table and try to imbibe that into the Church.

****Here, Ephraim would represent God's remnant people. Egypt the secular world. And Assyria, in place of Babylon.....Around the Sanctuary the cornerstone tribe on each side of the Sanctuary represents something. Judah to the east (Christ..the Lion of Judah), Reuben to the south representing spiritual Egypt to the south of Israel (Reuben the 1st born/the 1st born of Egypt died in the 10th plague), Ephraim to the west (God's people on the other side of Him - patiently waiting for His return as the Lion of Judah roars form the east to the west right through the door of the Sanctuary, which faced east, the plan of salvation laid out, for His people- For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Matthew 24:27), and Dan to the north representing spiritual Babylon to the north of Israel--Dan was twice a hotbed of apostasy). Here Assyria ruled Babylon before Babylon rose up and overthrew their master Assyria. So Assyria would be symbolic for Babylon in Hosea.****

Jezebel of Revelation

(4th phase of Church history in the 7 churches, Thyatira)

In Biblical prophecy women represent churches on earth...there are only 2 groups.

Jezreel was the city fortress of Queen Jezebel. Some info on the latest dig there -

"King Ahab and Queen Jezebel reigned in Samaria, the new capital of the northern kingdom of Israel; it had been established as Israel’s capital by Ahab’s father, Omri, the founder of the dynasty.
Jezebel’s construction of a temple to the Canaanite-Phoenician deity Baal resulted in a long confrontation between Jezebel and Ahab, on the one hand, and the prophet Elijah.
The Phoenician princess, opponent of the God of Israel and his loyal prophets, the patron of the cult of Baal and the builder of Baal’s temple, the corrupt queen who framed the loyal citizen Naboth—Jezebel has become a symbol of everything bad.
A large fortified enclosure existed here in the ninth century B.C., during the reigns of Ahab and 

Jezreel Today

Jezebel, and their son Jehoram.
The rectangular fortified enclosure was built on a grand scale. It enclosed an area of nearly 11 acres!
The tower on the northeastern corner of the enclosure faces the Gilead Hills, where Jehu had been anointed king. We can assume that the “watchman” who discovered Jehu and his cavalry approaching Jezreel in a “furious” gallop stood on the roof of this tower.
An outer ring of fortifications, consisting of a rock-cut moat and rampart, surrounded the enclosure on three sides, all except the northern side, which faces the valley. In our sounding of this rock-cut moat (near the gate), it proved to be nearly 20 feet deep, and we assume that the entire moat was cut to roughly the same depth.
The southeastern tower of the enclosure was destroyed by fire. Layers of destruction debris filled the central room of the tower. Nine arrowheads—eight of iron and one of bronze—indicate that the enclosure was destroyed in an attack by a military force. All of the arrowheads were found on the southern side of the enclosure, in the vicinity of the gate. The historian Nadav Na’aman is probably right that the Jezreel enclosure was destroyed by the Aramean king Hazael in the second half of the ninth century B.C.
 Jezreel was first and foremost a military base, possibly the military center of the Omride kings, while Samaria was the official, royal capital.
The agricultural installations ranged from small cup marks to large oil and wine presses, including one that may belong to the time of Naboth’s orchard, which King Ahab coveted and for which Jezebel had Naboth framed and executed.
The expedition’s survey archaeology revealed Jezreel to be much larger than previously thought.
Jezreel appears to consist of two sites, perhaps not physically connected but almost certainly politically connected. The other site, the Spring of Jezreel (1 Samuel 29:1), also known as Ein el-Meita, or “dead spring” in Arabic, is located a half mile northeast of the summit site.
The spring is dependent on the Gilboa mountain range aquifer, and its flow during various historical times has been irregular, probably giving rise to its Arabic name. In ancient times, however, the spring appears to have had a larger and steadier output, as attested by its prominent role in the Biblical narrative (1 Kings 21; 2 Kings 9).
All this new information taken together already seems to suggest that there was a lower city of Jezreel, in addition to the rather enigmatic Iron Age enclosure exposed in the 1990s dating to the period of Naboth, Ahab and Jezebel.

Egeria, a Christian nun, traveled to the Holy Land in the fourth century A.D. and visited Jezreel. She reports that “in Jezreel there is nothing left of Naboth’s vineyard but its well … The tomb of Jezebel is stoned by everyone to this very day.”
We can assume that the royal residence would have been built along the northern side of the enclosure, facing the slope and the breathtaking view, taking advantage of the refreshing northwestern breeze. It follows that the royal residence—assuming that there was indeed a royal residence here—was probably situated somewhere between the gate and the northern wall of the enclosure. Most probably, this is where Jezebel was killed.

Jezreel most probably served as a central base for Ahab’s cavalry and war chariot units, which formed the backbone of the Israelite army. Ahab’s army must have been large and strong, as we know not from the Bible but from the surviving records of the most powerful ruler in the world at that time: Shalmaneser III, king of Assyria. Shalmaneser’s annual military campaigns struck fear in nations all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. In 853 B.C., however, a coalition of 12 small states challenged the Assyrian army at Karkar in northern Syria. The coalition included the kingdom of Israel. Shalmaneser lists the military forces contributed by members of the coalition. Ahab’s was among the largest: According to Shalmaneser, the forces of “Ahab the Israelite” included 2,000 chariots and 10,000 foot soldiers.
