Puritan Corner - Taking away the fig leaves

The Spirit takes away the fig leafs of excuses — and presents sin naked and bare.
by Nathaniel Vincent (1639-1697)
And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
Genesis 3:7

Governor of the Universe & the Brazen Serpent

Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. Numbers 21:8

"During the journeyings of the children of Israel through the wilderness, Jesus Christ, enshrouded in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night, led them on their way, indicating where they should march and where they should pitch their tents. Christ guarded them from all the beasts of the wilderness and from the poisonous serpents.

This they had reason to know; for when God removed His restraining power from the serpents, great was the affliction in the camp of the Israelites.

Their murmuring was a constant offense to God. He saw that they had thrown off all fear of Him, and He permitted fiery serpents to attack them, that they might realize how in the past His power had guarded them from untold dangers.

Those bitten by the serpents cried out in their dying anguish, entreating Moses to call upon the Lord for deliverance. Moses cried to the Lord, and the Lord heard him, and told him to make a serpent of brass, and lift it up in the sight of all the people. To this serpent the people were to look, and those who looked were healed.

God desires men and women to awaken to a sense of His great mercy and lovingkindness.
--Every blessing we receive comes from Him.
--The Governor of the universe, He takes cognizance of the words and actions of human beings.
--He knows whether His children are deserving of praise or of condemnation.
--Each human being will be rewarded or punished according to his works."

3 Relics of the Days of the Deadly Wound Delivered

And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; Revelation 13:3

"In 1796 Napoleon Bonaparte, on his way to overthrow the pope, incited his soldiers with one of his fiery speeches to the effect that they still had one offense to avenge. The hour of vengeance had struck. To restore the Capitol, to awaken the people of Rome,
blunted from centuries of slavery, were to be the fruits of their victories; they would mark an epoch in history.

Hearing of this, Pius VI (1775-1798)—born in 1717 as Giovanni Angelico Braschi, and died in 1799—attempted to fortify his position and neglected nothing that might prevent the great catastrophe. Meantime he sent an emissary to Napoleon at Milan and proposed an armistice, offering heavy reparations and the surrender of Ancona, Bologna, and Ferrara—the northern portion of the papal territory.
The French Directory demanded that the Papacy revoke, retract, and disannul all bulls, briefs, rescripts, and decrees affecting ecclesiastical affairs in France issued since the beginning of the Revolution in 1787. This Pius VI refused, declaring he would oppose it with force, and broke off the parley. Napoleon took Imola, the Romagna, the duchy of Urbino, routed the papal army, and made new overtures to the pope.

December 27, 1797, a riot threatened, and the papal government ordered the mutineers to disperse. Duppa records that some in the mob, "proceeded to make public harangues, and pretended to shew clearly, by several texts of scripture, that the time was at hand to overthrow the existing government."

The papal troops advanced, and the revolutionists sought refuge at the French embassy. The pontifical soldiers followed and opened fire. Then the French general Duphot sought to quiet the melee, but was shot, and dispatched with papal bayonets.

The killing of General Duphot brought on the crisis. The ambassador left Rome in indignation. Reparations were refused, and the Directory, on January 1, 1798, ordered General Berthier, then in Milan, to march upon Rome and conquer it, and to establish a Roman republic.

General Berthier advanced, but stopped outside of Rome, awaiting an invitation to enter. Patriots invited him to do so. Thus the French troops entered Rome on February 10, 1798. Berthier immediately pledged by proclamation that the Catholic "cult" should remain untouched.

As a last resort the church had had recourse to a vast religious processional through the streets of Rome, with venerated relics, in the hope of staving off the evil day. An elaborate proclamation was issued January 15, 1798, in the form of a printed poster signed by the papal secretary.

The three special relics paraded were
--a portrait of the Savior supposed to have been painted by supernatural agency,
--a miraculous picture of the Virgin Mary and the child,
--and the supposed chains by which St. Peter was fettered.

But the French Army came on. Priests went throughout the city preaching the end of the world and, as customary, calling on
miracles to sustain their prophecies. They little dreamed that they were so near the close of their power.

Berthier came to the capitol escorted by a military band, received the acclaim of the great concourse, and gave formal recognition to the Roman Republic and its provisional government.
He then ordered the papal arms and insignia everywhere removed. Vatican Palace was stripped of its valuables, and the sacerdotal vestments of the pontifical chapels were burned for the gold and silver of the embroidery.

Meantime, on this very same day — February 15 — on the anniversary of his elevation to the pontificate, Pius VI repaired to the Sistine Chapel, and was receiving the felicitations of the Sacred College of cardinals, when, in the midst of the ceremony, shouts penetrated the conclave, intermingled with the strokes of axes on the doors. Soon General Haller, a Swiss Calvinist, with a band of his soldiers, broke into the chapel, and declared that the pope's reign was at an end.

It was the end of an epoch in papal history long before predicted in the prophecies of Holy Writ. Trevor goes so far as to say:
"The territorial possessions of the clergy and monks were declared national property, and their former owners cast into prison. The papacy was extinct: not a vestige of its existence remained; and among all the Roman Catholic powers not a finger was stirred in its defence. The Eternal City had no longer prince or pontiff; its bishop was a dying captive in foreign lands; and the decree was already announced that no successor would be allowed in his place."

IN the NEWS - Some Good News

"On Wednesday, the U.S. Congress adopted HR 390, titled the “Iraq and Syria Genocide Relief and Accountability Act of 2018,” which now heads to President Donald Trump’s desk, where he’s expected to sign it into law.

First introduced two years ago, the bill makes it clear that victims of the ISIS genocide in Iraq, including Christians and Yazidis, should be included in American assistance to the region. It also features American aid for holding perpetrators accountable, including funding to develop local judicial and investigatory capacities.
For those concerned about the plight of suffering religious minorities around the world, very much including Christians, it’s obviously good news."

But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.
Genesis 13:13

"New Mexico prosecutors have obtained documents from the Archdiocese of Santa Fe regarding the service records of two former priests.

Agents with the state Attorney General’s Office served a search warrant to get the information.
The archdiocese in a statement identified the former priests as Marvin Archuleta and Sabine Griego. The two are among those on the archdiocese’s list of clergy members who have been credibly accused of sexually abusing children.
In May, Griego was named in a civil lawsuit by seven people who say they are victims of sexual abuse.
Archuleta’s whereabouts is unknown." CRUX

SALT poured on "once saved always saved"

"Can a Christian lose out on salvation?
Some Protestants would answer no because they believe a doctrine commonly called “once saved, always saved.”
Technically, this belief is called the doctrine of eternal security (meaning the saints’ eternal salvation is completely secure). It is also called the doctrine of the perseverance of the saints (that God’s saints will persevere).

This doctrine is commonly found in the reformed Christian tradition that was heavily influenced by the theology of John Calvin. Here’s how The Westminster Confession of Faith describes this doctrine:
They, whom God has accepted in His Beloved, effectually called, and sanctified by His Spirit, can neither totally nor finally fall away from the state of grace, but shall certainly persevere therein to the end, and be eternally saved” (chap. 17, sec. 1, “Of the Perseverance of the Saints”).

But did Jesus Christ teach that all who believe in Him are guaranteed salvation?
Jesus likened His disciples, both then and now, to salt to make two points.

*First, He showed how Christians are to metaphorically season this world through their character and good conduct (verse 16).
*Second, He warned Christians of the danger of losing their flavor—in other words, falling away from their faith and no longer seasoning the world.
He warned that if that happened, just like bad salt they would be “thrown out and trampled underfoot” (verse 13).

Those who hold the “once saved, always saved” doctrine acknowledge that saved Christians can backslide for a time and reap temporary physical consequences of their sins—but they believe they can never truly fall away and lose salvation.

However, there are some very serious scriptural passages that say the exact opposite.
Paul said he disciplined himself lest he “should become disqualified” (1 Corinthians 9:27).

Some of the strongest warnings to true Christians are found in the book of Hebrews. The author uses a large portion of the book to warn Christians about the danger of drifting away and neglecting their salvation (Hebrews 2:1, 3).
He warns that we can only stay in God’s house (or God’s family) if we hold fast the confidence … of the hope firm to the end” (Hebrews 3:6). Yes, the short two-letter word if completely disproves the doctrine of once saved, always saved.
The book elaborates more on the specific danger: “Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God” (verse 12).

The apostle Peter reinforced this warning in 2 Peter 2:For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of … Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them(verses 20-21)."

Scene in Heaven at the Fall of Man

But we see Jesus,
who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, c
rowned with glory and honor;
that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
Hebrews 2:9

"The fall of man filled all heaven with sorrow.

The world that God had made was blighted with the curse of sin and inhabited by beings doomed to misery and death. There appeared no escape for those who had transgressed the law.

Angels ceased their songs of praise. Throughout the heavenly courts there was mourning for the ruin that sin had wrought.

The Son of God, heaven's glorious Commander, was touched with pity for the fallen race. His heart was moved with infinite compassion as the woes of the lost world rose up before Him.

But divine love had conceived a plan whereby man might be redeemed. The broken law of God demanded the life of the sinner. In all the universe there was but one who could, in behalf of man,
satisfy its claims. Since the divine law is as sacred as God Himself, only one equal with God could make atonement for its transgression.

None but Christ could redeem fallen man from the curse of the law and bring him again into harmony with Heaven. Christ would take upon Himself the guilt and shame of sin--sin so offensive to a holy God that it must separate the Father and His Son. Christ would reach to the depths of misery to rescue the ruined race."

IN the NEWS - HATERS gonna HATE (even Christmas Décor)

This is what the Left is reduced to bashing the Trump's over? Christmas Décor? Talk about just pure HATE....Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me,... Genesis 26:27

"First Lady Melania Trump unveiled the annual holiday decor for the Trump family’s second Christmas in the White House,
featuring red topiary trees made from cranberries and red berries, gingerbread recreations of various D.C. landmarks, and an 18th-century nativity scene originally given to the White House under the Johnson administration... numerous left-wing figures are instead assailing Mrs. Trump with some of their most hyperbolic rhetoric yet.
The Washington Post tweeted that the decorations “induc[e] flashbacks to phantasmal nightmares from our shared cultural memory”....

Perhaps this is all part of a clever conceit, a conceptual representation of Christmas as a story of contradictions,” Slate’s Christina Cauterucci writes, “a pregnant virgin, a king born in a stable, and a vengeful adulterer casting himself as the savior of a holiday celebrating the Messiah’s birth.”
The Daily Wire has compiled more reactions, with Paul Bois commenting that they go “beyond mere differences in taste and into pure ‘Mean Girls’ territory.”
Vice’s Eve Peyser called the decor a “circle of hell Dante could never have dreamed up,” fitting the “bleakness of the Trump era.” Vanity Fair’s Kenzie Bryant wrote that the stylings displayed a
touch of menace,” particularly the trees dyed with what I assume is liberal blood a-boiling."

Daily Caller columnist Benny Johnson had a different reaction to the decorations, which he saw up close during a private tour. Johnson attributed the hostility to the “confirmation bias of liberal reporters who cannot bring themselves to find a single shred of happiness or joy in anything that the Trump family does.”
There was something magical about the 200-year-old house –
done up in grand, traditional Christmas fashion, he wrote. Every room of the White House was open and glowing. The rooms were dripping in history and twinkling Christmas lights. The halls were decked. To have the liberty to [wander] the rooms freely at night, with nothing but the glow of Christmas lights illuminating, is an experience.” Lifesite

Creation Moment 11/29/2018 - Science Paper Points to an Adam & Eve

And Adam called his wife's name Eve;
because she was the mother of all living.
Genesis 3:20

"A "provocative and misunderstood" scientific study published this year supports the Bible's Adam and Eve story by demonstrating that all humans are descended from a common mother and father, a prominent science writer and public speaker claims.

Michael Guillen, president of Spectacular Science Productions, who has taught physics at Harvard and was a science editor for ABC News, commented on the scientific discovery from May regarding human ancestors.....Summarizing the discovery, announced by a team of U.S. and Swiss scientists, Guillen wrote that "all humans alive today are the offspring of a common father and mother — an Adam and Eve — who walked the planet ....Moreover, the same is true of nine out of every 10 animal species, meaning that nearly all of Earth’s creatures living today sprang into being recently from some seminal, Big Bang-like event," he added.

David Thaler at the University of Basel explained back in May, they based their findings on analysis of DNA “bar codes” of 5 million animals from 100,000 different species.
Experts have interpreted low genetic variation among living humans as a result of our recent expansion from a small population in which a sequence from one mother became the ancestor for all modern human mitochondrial sequences,” Thaler said back them.

Thaler later added: “Scholars have previously argued that 99 percent of all animal species that ever lived are now extinct. Our work suggests that most species of animals alive today are like humans, descendants of ancestors who emerged from small populations possibly with near-extinction events.”

They must get it warm from glory, carry it warm in their bosoms, and pour it out in the warmth and earnestness of the soul to those that hear.

Creation Moment 11/28/2018 - Dandelion Lesson

Consider how the wild flowers grow.
They do not labor or spin.
Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
Luke 12:27 NIV

"A lowly dandelion is stuck in the ground. It can’t move. It seems hopelessly chained to earth by its roots. But one day, it will give its young marvelous wings that will let it soar above the landscape, to enjoy a brief but wondrous journey, traveling possibly for miles till it gently descends to a paradise its ancestors could never imagine: a land of fertile soils and fountains. Your lawn.

Nature says:
Every child knows that blowing on a dandelion clock will send its seeds floating off into the air. But physicists wanted to know more. How does an individual seed manage to maintain such stable flight? Researchers at the University of Edinburgh studied the fluid dynamics of air flow around the seed and discovered a completely new type of flight. It’s based on a previously unknown kind of vortex which may even be common in the plant and animal kingdoms, now that we know where to look.
Jeremy Kahn, also writing in Nature, calls it an “impossible’ method never before seen in nature. A beautiful film clip describes how air flowing up through the bristles of the “pappus” as it is called creates a “separated vortex ring” above it that literally sucks the seed up into the air.

The paper in Nature is titled, “A separated vortex ring underlies the flight of the dandelion.” The authors seem jazzed by what they found:
The porosity of the dandelion pappus appears to be tuned
precisely to stabilize the vortex, while maximizing aerodynamic loading and minimizing material requirements. The discovery of the separated vortex ring provides evidence of the existence of a new class of fluid behaviour around fluid-immersed bodies that may underlie locomotion, weight reduction and particle retention in biological and manmade structures.

The editors emphasize that the dandelion’s flight trick depends on finely-tuned parts:
All falling objects, from feathers to cannon balls, create turbulence in their wake. But it takes a rare combination of size, mass, shape and, crucially, porosity for the pappus to generate this vortex ring. Size is also particularly important, because from the point of view of something as small as a pappus, the air is appreciably viscous. At such a scale, a parachute consisting of a bunch of bristles is as effective as the aerofoil found in larger seeds that disperse from taller plants — such as the winged seeds of the maple. In the same way, the tiniest insects do not fly with solid wings, but swim through the air using ‘paddles’ made of bristles.
Perhaps most surprisingly, the trick depends on the blank spaces between the parts. What goes on there depends on the solid materials and how they are arranged." EN&V

Result of True Repentance

what indignation, what alarm, what longing,
what concern, what readiness to see justice done.

How shall a man be just with God?

“How shall a man be just with God?
How shall the sinner be made righteous?

It is only through Christ that we can be brought into harmony with

Many are asking the same question as did the multitude on the Day of Pentecost, when, convicted of sin, they cried out, ‘What shall we do?’ The first word of Peter’s answer was, ‘Repent’ (Acts 2:37, 38). At another time, shortly after, he said, Repent, … and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out’ (Acts 3:19).”

Creation Moment 11/27/2018 - Circular Reasoning of Evolution

...and there is no new thing under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:9

"The big picture conclusions of all studies is that evolutionary processes are only capable of driving changes at the level of species and genera, (in other words genetic variation within a kind based on pre-programmed data--known as "micro-evolution") but not at the level of families or higher (in other words no "evolution" into another separate, distinct creature, known as "macro-evolution").

Stated differently, evolution produces a limited number of changes and then no further significant change is possible.

For instance, the adaptations seen in the cichlid fish in Lake Victoria closely match those seen in the cichlid fish in the other lakes. The same limited number of changes repeated themselves over and over.

In addition, all modifications represent minor alterations of the same cichlid body plan.
The evidence commonly cited to argue for evolution’s ability to drive large-scale transformations is almost always circular.

Biologists regularly identify similarities and differences between two groups and then assume those differences are the result of natural selection, mutations, and related processes. However, this conclusion is not based on any actual hard evidence. It is simply assumed."

5 Points from the Cleansing of the Temple

And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, ....and

Origin of Sun Worship

If there is found among you, ..... and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun or the moon or any of the host of heaven, which I have forbidden, and it is told you and you hear of it, then you shall inquire diligently... Deuteronomy 17:2-4

"The identity of Nimrod and Ninus has already been proved; and under the name of Ninus, also, he is represented as originating the same practice.

In a fragment of Apollodorus it is said that "Ninus taught the Assyrians to worship fire." The sun, as the great source of light and heat, was worshipped under the name of Baal.

Now, the fact that the sun, under that name, was worshipped in the earliest ages of the world, shows the audacious character of these first beginnings of apostasy.

Men have spoken as if the worship of the sun and of the heavenly bodies was a very excusable thing, into which the human race
might very readily and very innocently fall. But how stands the fact? According to the primitive language of mankind, the sun was called "Shemesh"--that is, "the Servant"--that name, no doubt, being divinely given, to keep the world in mind of the great truth that, however glorious was the orb of day, it was, after all, the appointed Minister of the bounty of the great unseen Creator to His creatures upon earth.

Men knew this, and yet with the full knowledge of it, they put the servant in the place of the Master; and called the sun Baal--that is, the Lord--and worshipped him accordingly.

What a meaning, then, in the saying of Paul, that, "when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God"; but "changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is God over all, blessed for ever."

The beginning, then, of sun-worship, and of the worship of the host of heaven, was a sin against the light--a presumptuous, heaven-daring sin. As the sun in the heavens was the great object of worship, so fire was worshipped as its earthly representative. To this primeval fire-worship Vitruvius alludes when he says that "men were first formed into states and communities by meeting around fires."

The 2 spirits in this World

"One and another would say, "I have the truth, because my feelings tell me so."

nor by the deceptive spirit of error.

Christ declared, "Thy word is truth;" and the Spirit that Christ promised to his disciples, was to lead them into all truth."

IN the NEWS - "Wuerl"wind rocks the Vatican again

For the love of money is the root of all evil: 1 Timothy 6:10

"After Cdl. Donald Wuerl spearheaded a $25 million grant to the Vatican earlier this year through the Papal Foundation, sources confirm the money remains unaccounted for, the Rome hospital designated as beneficiary apparently never having received the
grant.
Sources also confirm Wuerl was behind the pope's cancellation of a meeting with foundation members in March, and continues to pull the strings behind the scenes.
Controversy engulfed the Papal Foundation, a charity partially founded by Abp. Theodore McCarrick in 1988 with assets worth $206 million, when three stewards resigned from the Audit Committee earlier this year after Wuerl pushed for the Vatican to receive $25 million — the largest single grant ever given by the foundation.
The money was ostensibly to be used toward the Istituto Dermopatico Dell'Immacolata (IDI), a scandal-ridden hospital in Rome investigated by Italian authorities for embezzlement and tax fraud of nearly a billion euros.
Pope Francis had allegedly requested the $25 million in summer of 2017, and Wuerl, then-chairman of the foundation, lobbied members of the Board of Trustees to vote to approve the grant originally a loan, but revised to an outright grant on Wuerl's insistence." CM
