Halloween... What to do?

“What is a Christian to do?

 * Should we close our doors on Halloween and shut off our porch lights and ignore what is happening in our neighborhood?
* Is it appropriate to provide an innocent alternative at the church (like some sort of harvest festival or social night)?
* Perhaps we should open our doors to children and give them something healthy (instead of candy) along with Christian literature.

Papal Notes - Papal PR Game hits new high

"A young boy wandered onto the stage at the Vatican this past weekend, hugging Pope Francis as he

tried to give a speech.
The boy, who looks about 6, was originally sitting on the steps near the Pope, while Francis listened to followers address him at the Vatican's Year of Faith Celebration.
Boys will be boys, and this one wanted a closer look at the man in the robe. So, he wandered up to give a personal hello.

The PR Game by this Pope is the best I've ever seen-and now hits a new high, for who could possibly not find this scene "sweet"? (BTW, when I call this "PR", I'm not saying that this was staged).
Yet, we must remember where all this leads to and is about. What this man truly represents, especially in the context of Reformation Day today.
Let us not forget what the office this man holds currently did on the pages of history....and who this office was compared to in Revelation- .....that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. Poll on women ordination

"70 percent of American Catholics support the ordination of women. That nearly two in every three white evangelicals (63 percent) now agree that women should be eligible for ordination is extraordinary. Already there are small numbers of clergywomen serving evangelical Protestant churches, particularly in Pentecostal contexts such as the Assemblies of God.
What, then, accounts for PRRI’s finding that a sizable proportion of white evangelical Protestants—nearly as large as the proportion of Catholics who share the same view—now supports the ordination of women?   A leading hypothesis is that younger evangelicals are driving growing acceptance of women as pastors.
We analyzed support for women’s ordination among white evangelicals using regression analysis controlling for age and a variety of other demographic controls and found that age was not a significant variable. Other demographic factors we included in our model, such as education, income, and gender were also not significant.
Instead, support for women’s ordination even among the most theologically conservative Americans appears to fit into a broader pattern we have observed in the American public concerning the growing acceptance of women in leadership roles.  For example, studies show that virtually all Americans say they would now vote for a qualified woman to be president, compared to roughly half of Americans in the late 1960s.  As women have entered the workforce in record numbers and now routinely outnumber men in college and most graduate programs, Americans have grown more comfortable seeing women in charge—even in traditionally male-dominated professions such as religious leadership. The Dalai Lama is a Buddhist (which is an atheistic Hindu. In eastern cultures Buddhism is considered atheistic because it rejects the Hindu gods as gods. Only in the west do we consider it a "religion").
Betty Williams, a "peace activist", who twice publicly said she wanted to "KILL" President Bush.
Sharon Stone of Hollywood fame....How do you get a "peace" award for AIDS work?
Shirin Ebadi is a former President of Iran.

"All living things on the earth ultimately obtain their energy from the sun, as do the wind and water

cycles. And nuclear reactions power the sun. In theory, as its nuclear fuel ‘burns’ up, the sun’s core should shrink, and this would make the reactions occur more readily. Therefore, the sun should shine more brightly as it ages.
But this means that if billions of years were true, the sun would have been much fainter in the past. However, there is no evidence that the sun was fainter at any time in the earth’s history. Astronomers call this the ‘faint young sun paradox’, but it is no paradox at all if the sun is only as old as the Bible says—about 6,000 years.
Evolutionists and long-agers believe that life appeared on the earth about 3.8 billion years ago. But if that timescale were true, the sun would be 25% brighter today than it was back then. This implies that the earth would have been frozen at an average temperature of –3ºC. However, most paleontologists believe that, if anything, the earth was warmer in the past. The only way around this is to make arbitrary and unrealistic assumptions of a far greater greenhouse effect at that time than exists today, with about 1,000 times more CO₂ in the atmosphere than there is today.
The scientific evidence is consistent with the sun having the age that we would expect from a straightforward reading of the Bible. In 6,000 years or so, there would have been no significant increase in energy output from the sun. It is a problem only for old-age ideas." CMI

So the question is--WHY did the "Church" take sides in an internal power struggle for earthly power & wealth to the point of excommunicating people? You really think either side was morally superior to the other?
Just a little example from the pages of history of the Little Horn meddling in politics.

P.S.-BTW, what became of Blanche? Well, her side went on to triumph. She died in 1229 of natural causes. And what became of Philippa who had grown up in the Holy Land? She died on 12/20/1250 (age 53).

Siberian Crossing Theory Shaken?

Where did the first Americans come from? Most researchers agree that Paleoamericans moved across the Bering Land Bridge from Asia sometime before 15,000 years ago, suggesting roots in East Asia. But just where the source populations arose has long been a mystery.

Now comes a surprising twist, from the complete nuclear genome of a Siberian boy who died 24,000 years ago—the oldest complete genome of a modern human sequenced to date. His DNA shows close ties to those of today's Native Americans. Yet he apparently descended not from East Asians, but from people who had lived in Europe or western Asia. The finding suggests that about a third of the ancestry of today's Native Americans can be traced to "western Eurasia," with the other two-thirds coming from eastern Asia, according to a talk at a meeting here by ancient DNA expert Eske Willerslev of the University of Copenhagen. It also implies that traces of European ancestry previously detected in modern Native Americans do not come solely from mixing with European colonists, as most scientists had assumed, but have much deeper roots.

No. 1      Attack the validity of the Bible

This is expected.  If the Muslim can undermine the strength and integrity of God's word, then it would be much easier for him to win arguments, confound the Christian, and make converts of those who don't know the truth and power of the Bible. 

1) Stating that the Bible has numerous contradictions..... "biblical contradictions" raised by Muslims are nothing more than examples of their lack of understanding of biblical theology and context.  Always read the context of verses. 
2) Criticizing the lack of original manuscripts..... The point here is that because we do not have the original manuscripts of the Bible, we cannot really know what the originals said and, therefore, the Bible could have been corrupted. 
     a) The Bible documents are well attested as being reliable and accurate. In fact, we have around 24,000 ancient manuscripts of the New Testament. So much so, that no major area of Christian doctrine is affected by possible variations among manuscripts
     b) Regarding the Koran, Muhammad couldn't read or write, so he recited the Koran to people who then wrote it down.  There is no evidence at all that the Koran was written down in its entirety in Muhammad's lifetime and compiled as a unit.
     c) Shortly after Muhammad's death, the Muslim Uthman ordered all sets of the Koran manuscripts to be destroyed except the codex of Zaid. 
     d) Muslims claim that Allah said the Koran would be preserved.  But, using the Koran to substantiate the Koran which is circular reasoning.
3) Claiming that the Bible is false because it contradicts the Koran (Qur'an)...The Muslim assumes the validity of the Qur'an and because it contradicts the Bible, the Bible is wrong.  Well, the Christian can just as easily state that the Koran is wrong because it contradicts the Bible.  But the Muslims would not accept that.  Therefore, why should we accept their argument?

No. 2      Attempt to set Paul against Jesus

Muslims often make the claim that Paul never met Jesus and was not a disciple or apostle of Jesus.  Of course, this is not true.  Paul encountered Jesus on the road to Damascus in Acts 9, after Jesus' resurrection.  Jesus spoke to him and commissioned him.  So, Paul met Jesus.  Furthermore, Paul visited the Jerusalem apostles Peter, James, and John who affirmed Paul's mission and message.... Peter, who was a disciple of Jesus, personally authenticated Paul's writings by calling them scripture...But, two facts remain.  First, Jesus claimed to be God.  Second, the Pharisees denied that Jesus was God and the Muslims agree with them.

IN the NEWS - Christ the Atheist? (So says Richard Dawkins)

When discussing Jesus Christ, he said:

“I wrote [an] article called ‘Atheists for Jesus,’ I think it was… Somebody gave me a t-shirt: ‘Atheists for Jesus.’ Well, the point was that Jesus was a great moral teacher and I was suggesting that somebody as intelligent as Jesus would have been an atheist if he had known what we know today.”

Clearly, Dawkins doesn’t believe that Jesus is God’s son — a central element of Christian theology.

"As the concept of open relationships rises in pop culture and political debates, some polyamorous families like the Holders and Mullins see an opportunity to go public and fight stereotypes that polyamory is just swinging, cheating or kinky sex.

It's not just a fling or a phase for them. It's an identity. They want to show that polyamory can be a viable alternative to monogamy, even for middle-class, suburban families with children, jobs and house notes.

"We're not trying to say that monogamy is bad," said Billy Holder, a 36-year-old carpenter who works at a university in Atlanta. "We're trying to promote the fact that everyone has a right to develop a relationship structure that works for them."

For the Holder-Mullins triad, polyamory is three adults living in the same home about 20 miles south of Atlanta. They share bills, housework and childcare for their 9-year-old daughter. They work at the same place, sharing carpooling duties so someone can see their daughter off to school each day.

Surrounded at the parade by drag queens from El Gato Negro nightclub, singers from a gospel choir and supporters of the Libertarian Party of Georgia, Billy Holder didn't stand out.... The Holders and Mullins dealt with rejection from parents and one of Melissa Holder's sons when they revealed their relationship. They've also been the subject of a child welfare probe that ended in no charges being laid.

"We want to promote the idea that any relationship is valid as long as it is a choice made by consenting adults," he said. "In this regard, and as in most things, promoting public acceptance is the first step."

In panels with names like "Defining Our Relationships" and "The 5 Love Languages"  -- the discussions revolved around topics that often come up for monogamous couples: Communication, jealousy, time.

Wagner Illig, a self-appointed "poly educator" who gives talks at adult conventions about polyamory, began to identify as poly after her second divorce in the late 1990s. She decided there must be a better way than cheating to have multiple relationships.

Much has changed since then, she said. A generation that grew up amid rising rates of divorce and premarital cohabitation is more accepting of alternatives to monogamy. They grew up on the Internet and can turn on TV series like Showtime's "Polyamory: Married and Dating" and TLC's "Sister Wives," where they'll see alternatives to traditional monogamy

Wagner sees this year's U.S. Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage benefits as a sign that society is becoming more accepting of "other kinds of relationships," she said."

Creation Moment 10/28/2013 - Frozen Accident Theory

"This theory states that the code is universal because at the present time any change wovld be lethal, or at least very strongly selected against.

 

This is because in all organisms (with the possible exception of certain virases) the code determines (by reading the mRNA) the amino acid sequences of so many highly evolved protein molecules that any change to these would be highly disadvantageous unless accompanied by many simultaneous mutations to correct the “mistakes” produced by altering the code.

This accounts for the fact that the code does not change.

 

To account for it being the same in all organisms one must assume that all life evolved from a single organism (more strictly, from a single closely interbreeding population).

 

In its extreme form, the theory implies that the allocation of codons to amino acids at this point was entirely a matter of “chance”." TheOriginOfTheGeneticCode

 

In other words, evolution can't really happen because it would trigger a cascade of changes that would in essence, destroy the whole genome. But because we are here--it must have somehow happened and therefore the mistake "froze" at the right moment and preserved it throughout time.....More NONSENSE from the world of evolution....BTW, the self proclaimed "sophisticated" Richard Dawkins finds this theory to be "interesting" on p.409 of his book the greatest show on earth....

SDA Issues - Charismatic Poison: Mackin case study

"Ralph Mackin and his wife were a Seventh-day Adventist couple from Ohio, United States. They claimed to experience gifts of the Holy Spirit such as prophecy, speaking in tongues, and even casting out demons. They caused a stir at a local Adventist camp meeting, which was reported in the local newspaper. ...Ellen G. White,...was initially cautious regarding their experiences, and later came out opposed to them. After leading some meetings at an Adventist church for a time, they pass from prominence in the church.

On November 12, 1908 Ralph Mackin and his wife from Ohio visited Ellen White...  Nearly three years earlier their Findlay, Ohio church sought "the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.".....in the form of speaking in tongues.
A "little girl ten or eleven years old" told them "through the Spirit of prophecy", "You go to Toledo". They were also told imprisonment would ensue there. In Toledo a Polish Catholic heard Mrs. Mackin in his own tongue. When the Mackins returned to Clyde they were arrested for mesmerism.
They caused a stir at the Adventist camp meeting in Mansfield, Ohio, which resulted in the arrests of the Mackins, plus their daughter, Ralph's mother, and "Sister Edwards". They believed the Spirit had told Mrs. Mackin to go to the campground and sing, "only as she prays in the Spirit and special power comes upon her." However they were arrested for disturbance. In court, one witness testified, "I never heard such singing in my life. It just thrilled me through and through." Supporters had stated, "It is when the singing is extemporaneous – dictated by the Spirit – that it is the most wonderful." Dear Brother and Sister:

Your wife, in speech, in song, and in strange exhibitions that are not in accordance with the genuine work of the Holy Spirit, is helping to bring in a phase of fanaticism that would do great injury to the cause of God, if allowed any place in our churches.
On Casting Out Demons.--You have even supposed that power is given you to cast out devils. Through your influence over the human mind men and women are led to believe that they are possessed of devils, and that the Lord has appointed you as His agents for casting out these evil spirits.....Call a Halt.--My brother and sister, I have a message for you: you are starting on a false supposition. There is much of self woven into your exhibitions. Satan will come in with bewitching power, through these exhibitions. It is high time that you call a halt. If God had given you a special message for His people, you would walk and work in all humility--not as if you were on the stage of a theater, but in the meekness of a follower of the lowly Jesus of Nazareth.

I was shown that it was not the Spirit of the Lord that was inspiring Brother and Sister Mackin, but the same spirit of fanaticism that is ever seeking entrance into the remnant church. Their application of Scripture to their peculiar exercises is Scripture misapplied. The work of declaring persons possessed of the devil, and then praying with them and pretending to cast out the evil spirits, is fanaticism which will bring into disrepute any church which sanctions such work.

I was shown that we must give no encouragement to these demonstrations, but must guard the people with a decided testimony against that which would bring a stain upon the name of Seventh-day Adventists, and destroy the confidence of the people in the message of truth which they must bear to the world." "THE visit of Ralph Mackin and his wife with Ellen G. White occupied the last half of Thursday morning, November 12, 1908. Plans were that Ellen White with three members of her home and office family should drive on Friday by team the 35 miles to Healdsburg for services on Sabbath and Sunday. The interview over, her mind turned to the work of the weekend. Then there was a trip the next week to Berkeley with several meetings over that weekend.

To Elder A. G. Daniells, president of the General Conference, W. C. White wrote on that Thursday afternoon after the interview:

"This forenoon Mother and I and Brother Crisler spent a couple of hours in an interview with Brother and Sister Mackin of Findlay, Ohio. They came across the continent, they say, to see Mother. I had an interview with them in my office yesterday morning and advised them to come down this morning to see Mother. They seem to be very nice-spirited people, but their experience is somewhat peculiar." - November 12, 1908.

On that Friday the Mackins went to San Jose,...Trouble soon began to brew in San Jose. Inquiries regarding the interview began to come to the staff at Elmshaven.
November 26, two weeks after the interview, Ellen White wrote to S. N. Haskell, president of the California Conference:

"Dear Brother: Two weeks ago today, while I was writing, my son W. C. White came into my room and stated that there were two persons below who wished to speak with me. I went downstairs into our sitting room and there met a man and his wife who claim to follow the Word of God and to believe the Testimonies. They have had an unusual experience during the past two or three years. They seemed to be honest-hearted people. "In this stage of our history we must be very careful to guard against everything that savors of fanaticism and disorder. We must guard against all peculiar exercises that would be likely to stir up the minds of unbelievers, and lead them to think that as a people we are led by impulse, and delight in noise and confusion accompanied by eccentricities of action. In the last days the enemy of present truth will bring in manifestations that are not in harmony with the workings of the Spirit, but are calculated to lead astray those who stand ready to take up with something new and strange."

 

White Estate has received information from Mrs. Irene Moon-Winn, who resided in San Jose at the time, as to how Ralph Mackin gained access to the San Jose church.

Elder D. T. Fero, the pastor, had to be away on Sabbath, November 14, and he arranged for one of the members to take the service. On Sabbath morning as our brother who was to speak entered the church he met a gentleman who had a Bible, a Christ in Song and a volume of the Testimonies and gave his name as Ralph Mackin.

"Are you a preacher?" he was asked.

"Oh yes," was the reply." I have just come from Battle Creek." How fortunate, it seemed, that a minister from the East was in their midst and he was invited to preach.

In his sermon Mackin told the congregation that he had just visited Sister White at St. Helena and that his wife had had a vision there. He reported that Sister White was in full harmony with them, told them that theirs was a good work, and wished them God's blessing. During the sermon he suggested that if any of the congregation would like to have a special prayer meeting after church he would be glad to join them. Some people stayed, and they had a little prayer meeting.

When members who had gone home returned at three o'clock for the young people's meeting, they were surprised to find the meeting under Mr. Mackin's leadership still in progress. Some of the people were singing, some were praying, some were crying. Mackin announced there would be a prayer meeting at the church that night. Quite a crowd turned out, and he continued every night until Wednesday when Elder Fero returned, discovered the situation, and terminated Mackin's meetings in the church.

Mrs. Winn reports that the people "seemed to think that this was an outpouring of the Holy Spirit." For a period of time Mackin conducted meetings in the homes of sympathizers." Charismatic Experiences in Early SDA History A.L.White

Creation Moment 10/27/2013 - Divine Proportion (Fibonacci Number)

SHATTERING Evolution to it's core

"In God's creation, there exists a "Divine Proportion" that is exhibited in a multitude of shapes, numbers, and patterns whose relationship can only be the result of the omnipotent, good, and all-wise God of Scripture. This Divine Proportion—existing in the smallest to the largest parts, in living and also in non-living things—reveals the awesome handiwork of God and His interest in beauty, function, and order.

Let's begin with a shape with which we are all familiar. It is the spiral commonly seen in shells. By taking a careful look at that spiral (the chambered nautilus is probably the clearest example) you will observe that as it gets larger, it retains its identical form. Since the body of the organism grows in the path of a spiral that is equiangular and logarithmic, its form never changes. The beauty of this form is commonly called the "golden spiral."
This spiral is visible in things as diverse as: hurricanes, spiral seeds, the cochlea of the human ear, ram's horn, sea-horse tail, growing fern leaves, DNA molecule, waves breaking on the beach, tornados, galaxies, the tail of a comet as it winds around the sun, whirlpools, seed patterns of sunflowers, daisies, dandelions, and in the construction of the ears of most mammals.

This spiral follows a precise mathematical pattern. We will first look at this spiral in sunflowers. By

looking carefully at a sunflower you will observe two sets of spirals (rows of seeds or florets) spiraling in opposite directions. When these spiral rows are counted in each direction, you will discover that in the overwhelming majority of the cases that their numbers, depending upon the size of the flower, will be of the following ratio:

 

if small, 34 and 55; if medium 55 and 89; if large 89 and 144

These numbers are part of the Fibonacci numbering sequence, a pattern discovered around A.D. 1200

by Leonardo Pisa (historically known as Fibonacci). Each succeeding number is the sum of the two preceding numbers. The sequence of these numbers is 1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89,144,233, ad infinitum. This numbering pattern reveals itself in various ways throughout all of nature...

Why did Phideas, the Greek sculptor, and others in ancient Greece and Egypt often use this ratio in designing many of their works of art? Because this ratio has been found to be remarkably pleasing to the human eye, it produces what is called a Golden Rectangle. If the short side of the rectangle is 1, the long side will be 1.618.

Another area of great interest is the occurrence of Fibonacci numbers in the spiral arrangement of leaves around a plant's stem (called phyllotaxis). This spiral pattern is observed by viewing the stem from directly above, and noting the arc of the stem form one leaf base to the next, and the fraction of the stem circumference which is inscribed. In each case the numbers are Fibonacci numbers. Examples: In an elm the arc is 1/2 the circumference; in beech and hazel, 1/3; apricot, oak, 2/5; in pear and poplar, 3/8; in almond, 5/13; and in some pines either 5/21 or 13/34. Why did God arrange them this way? This pattern assures that each leaf will receive its maximum exposure to sunlight and air without shading or crowding other leaves.

When we realize that the information to produce these spirals and numbers in living things is stored in the DNA, should we then be surprised to find that the DNA molecule is 21 angstroms in width and the length of one full turn in its spiral is 34 angstroms, both Fibonacci numbers? The DNA molecule is literally one long stack of golden rectangles.

Let's look into the area of very small and very large things. In the world of atoms there are four fundamental asymmetries-
1- structure of atomic nuclei,
2- distribution of fission fragments,
3- distribution of numbers of isotopes,
4- and the distribution of emitted particles,
and it is significant that "the numerical values of all of these asymmetries are equal approximately to the `golden ratio,' and that the number forming these values are sometimes Fibonacci or `near' Fibonacci numbers." In changing states of a quantity of hydrogen atoms, as the atoms gain and lose radiant energy at succeeding energy levels, the changing proportion of the histories of the atomic electrons form Fibonacci numbers.

In the area of very large phenomena when the time period of each planet's revolution around the sun is compared in round numbers to the one adjacent to it, their fractions are Fibonacci numbers! Beginning with Neptune and moving inward toward the sun, the ratios are 1/2, 1/3, 2/5, 3/8, 5/13, 8/21, 13/34. These are the same as the spiral arrangement of leaves on plants!

A most interesting divergence in the chart is that of the Earth. As the next planet in the series after Mars, its number should be 8:21, but it isn't. This number "skips" over Earth and connects to Venus. Even with this divergence we find that the Earth's period compared to Mars and Venus are Fibonacci numbers (8/13, 13/21). It is my opinion that this anomaly is evidence of God's showing the uniqueness of planet Earth in relationship to the whole cosmos. It also accomplishes another fact, for this "anomaly" shatters the big bang and nebular hypothesis, for if all the planets formed from a whirling cloud of dust and atoms, this feature would not be present. To think that the times of revolution of the planets around the sun correlates with the arrangement of leaves around stems on plants is also an amazing phenomena." ICR
