PSALM 91: Psalm of Security

Psalm 91:

"The key word to describe this psalm is security.
 A great truth laid down in general, That all those who live a life of communion with God are constantly safe under his protection, and may therefore preserve a holy serenity and security of mind at all times.

I.          The Lord’s Protection (91:1-13).

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. vs.1
 A.  The Confidence (91:1-2);
He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. vs.2
 B.   The Dangers (91:3-6);
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, vs.3
 C.   The Examples (91:7-13).
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, vs.11
II.         The Lord’s Pledge (91:14-16).
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: vs.15
 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler,
and from the noisome pestilence.
vs.3

....the temptations of Satan, which are as the snares of the fowler,
 and from the contagion of sin, which is the noisome pestilence...
We are foolish and weak as poor little birds, and are very apt to be lured to our destruction by cunning foes, but if we dwell near to God, he will see to it that the most skilful deceiver shall not entrap us."
