SDA Issues - Spectrum - THE ENEMY WITHIN

Spectrum Magazine has been well known as an outlet for those in the SDA Church who harbor resentment for the Biblical doctrines of the Church...but from recent posts they are in open rebellion against the Word of God....it's time they are called out for what they are...
THE ENEMY WITHIN
And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
Matthew 15:14

Here are the latest examples of the blind leading the blind...

EXAMPLE A: Rebellion on the issue of homosexuality: They are promoting a book which defends it:
"There is no doubt that the Bible explicitly condemns gay relations in Leviticus, but this raises a question concerning divine commands, since Leviticus also condemns, in similar terms, a variety of other things that we no longer consider morally wrong, such as prohibiting the wearing of clothing made of two different types of fiber or the eating of meat with the blood still in it. Are all of God’s commands moral commands? It appears not........" Spectrum
This sums of their article--and illustrates how BLIND they are to Biblical Truth...

"In light of the arguments put forward by Meyers, and others, and the decision of the Supreme Court to bar states from prohibiting same-sex marriage, it may be time to reexamine or stance toward same-sex marriage within the Seventh-day Adventist Church as well." Spectrum

Bryan Ness is a Professor of Biology at Pacific Union College.

Q:If this is really what is in the heart of the author of the article, Bryan Ness, WHY does he still have access to the minds of the youth of the Church? Would Paul hire this guy to teach the youth?

EXAMPLE B: Rebellion against Biblical Creation & their push for long age chronology--as demonstrated in their headline-Ice Ages Research Demolishes Young Earth Creationism-
"The Bible does not refer to any ice age, but the evidence for an ice age (glaciation) is unequivocal. The ice left its imprint in all temperate regions of the Earth. Great continental ice sheets (often over 2 km thick) covered Canada, the northern US, much of the British Isles, and northern Europe. The

Great Lakes of the US were defined by the movement of the ice sheets, and the highest peaks in north-eastern US were covered.
But how can anyone take to the modern world the Sabbath truth as a memorial of Creation, if it is associated with a faulty understanding of Creation? Young Christians often leave the Church and discard Adventist belief because of just such conflicts between science and YEC creation theology. We are discussing important issues here, all related to a PFIA. If the Flood occurred about 2,300 years BC (as proposed by YEC and as they think is in accord with Scripture), then the glaciation of a PFIA should be pronounced or maximal about 2,000 years BC (4,000 years BP).
The YEC teaching that according to Scripture planet Earth and the Universe were created at Creation Week about 6,000 years BP has caused many science-literate non-Christians to completely reject Creation theology and then the Bible, including salvation in Christ and the Advent message. If the PFIA is added, exit from the Church might be even faster. A recent letter to Adventist Today supporters concerned reasons why young people leave the Church. We have amplified one reason, namely, the acceptance by the Adventist Church of YEC views that have no basis in Nature, God’s Second Book." Spectrum
Here we have the ageless argument of disregarding Scripture for the "youth". IF there are youth who are conflicted about Creation, Evolution & Ice Ages...the ones to blame are the church leaders who are not educating with the facts and places like Spectrum who make it their business to undermine people's faith in Scripture.
They are WITHOUT EXCUSE---there are MANY Creation Science organizations & publications which defend Biblical Creation with science and have tons of info on the ice ages and how they occurred scientifically after the FLOOD. Many links are on this blog to these sites. Spectrum CHOOSES to ignore Creation scientists because they want to.
They end with this drivel...
"We cannot understand or explain why Adventists still promote YEC. That we leave to the experts—the theologians and historians—to determine, hopefully unimpeded by administrators. We are very conscious of the fact that 1860 to 2016 represents about 156 years of discussion without any resolution." Spectrum
Q: IF Adventist eschatology is correct about the mark of the beast (and it is) WHY are you arguing with God's Word on this side of the mark of the beast? No one on the other side who is following the Lamb withersover He goes will be arguing with Genesis.
BTW, the debate IS settled over this in the Church....it's just not settled within the heart of the Spectrum staff........BOTH SCRIPTURE & NATURE testify to a young earth...

EXAMPLE C: Promoting the biggest heretic of the 20th century--Desmond Ford....
Ford was fired in 1980 for rebellion against the Sanctuary Doctrine. Ford also introduced many to an Adventist form of "cheap grace" as well as a push against young earth creationism.
As for the Sanctuary Doctrine, not only do I find it Biblical, but easy to defend. His minions claim he was the most brilliant mind the church produced in the 20th century--yet when I read his attacks, not only are his assaults simple minded---they border on the absurd. Many times the Sanctuary Doctrine/Investigative Judgment has been explained on this blog.
But as to Spectrum....look how they gush over him....
"This Ford still runs!OK, not really. Desmond Ford (pictured left, 1979) doesn’t even jog any more but at eighty-seven years of age ...This past Saturday, February 6, he returned to the vicinity of Avondale College where he lectured for more than sixteen years. He spoke to about 300 people in the Morisset Uniting Church, reflecting on two topics, women’s ordination and the doctrine of the Investigative Judgement....." Spectrum
Sooooo....they turned the pulpit over to a defrocked heretic....probably because they mostly wanted him to push women ordination would be my guess.....I guess having a known heretic, who led many out of the church in 1980 & 1981 makes them feel validated or something....
"Ford surveyed the Scriptures, beginning at Genesis, noting that it took both a man and a woman to represent the image of God who is Spirit. He added that Eve was created Adam’s equal, and she was creation’s crowning sample....." Spectrum
WHERE in Scripture is this taught??? He made man in HIS IMAGE then made woman. It DOES NOT say that it took both to = the image of God.
As for the Sanctuary Doctrine....
"When organising the meeting, Dixon tried to set up a debate or a panel discussion on this issue. He asked eighteen Seventh-day Adventist ministers to take part, but all declined. Why were these ministers reluctant to come to the defence of this key Adventist doctrine? They are paid to defend all the Fundamental Statements at every opportunity. Were they afraid they would have to defend sandcastles using paper darts?" Spectrum
Here illustrates what truly is in the heart of Spectrum. Relishing ripping the most beautiful doctrine of Scripture--the glue that binds the GOSPEL together from Genesis to Revelation.
As for why those 18 ministers declined debating Ford, let's just say that most of Australia & New Zealand's clergy are followers of Ford. I'm guessing most agree with him but didn't want to go on record with the GC as such.....
Q: What would Paul say to Spectrum on this?...Let's let Paul tell us....
A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; Titus 3:10

ALSO FROM PAUL.......
Now I beseech you, brethren,
mark them which cause divisions and offences
contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ,
but their own belly;
and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
