In 1973 & 1974 Mariner 10 flew by and measured the magnetic field of Mercury. In 2011 Messenger flew by and measured it again. The surprise was how much the magnetic field has decreased - a surprising 7.8 % estimate. This surprised evolutionary scientists. That is because they assumed, based on their long age view of Mercury, that the molten core would have cooled by now.-OOPS....
